Tomoyo noticed when they were joined by their daughters, and smiled as though warmly amused by their father's sputtering surprise. What was in the past was past, Tomoyo wasn't angry, and if she had been in his position she might've done the same. She was, after all, just a leaf in life's breeze.
She moved behind the two children, purr resounding firmly in her chest as she licked their faces in turn and gave each a loving nuzzle.
"This one is Sawia'na'Mifu, she's our oldest.... and this is Kilindi... girls," She smiled fondly, looking up to Kiamba with joy and a humbled pride in her eyes. "meet your father."

"They are," Tomoyo smiled, settling onto her striped haunches behind the two.
It probably would have been better if Tomoyo was less care free, but as it was she didn't realize that anything might be the matter. They would surely talk later and she'd want to know everything, but her dismissive attitude was probably making things more akward than they needed to be.

"My daughters?" He repeated again, as if totally forgetting he had spoken it before. Nervously, he took a step back, his ears flattening and a peculiar expression crossing about his face. He had never let things bother him. He tried very hard to be as amiable and distant as he needed- but this was so fast that he felt himself falling into a personality that was not his own. Was it right that he felt like running? It was too much to bare- and this love... He couldnt take it if it wasnt real.
"This seems...a bit unreal-" Kiamba spoke, opening a dark blue eye to gaze at the daughter who resembled both of them. Her fur- it was so much the same color as his that it was hard to deny it. But was it really possible? Was it all really happening? After all this time?
"When- I mean, how old are they?"

Now Tomoyo saw it. She saw that he was taking steps back, rather than forward, and recognized that he seemed almost like he might be sick at any moment.
For an instant she went a bit ridgid. She felt afraid, she'd been so certain when she found out she was pregnant... she thought for sure that he would have reacted so much differently if he had just been there with her. Now she was having to face the possibility (however slim or large) that he might leave again and not come back. Those weeks ago, giving birth to Kilindi and Sawia, she'd wished more than anything that Kiamba was there with her. As good a friend as Laio had become, and as welcoming as the other cheetahs were, they couldn't begin to fill in the gap that had become painfully clear when the birthing pains began.
"Just a few weeks," She managed, not having a chance to ask if he was alright before he'd spoken again to ask. Tomoyo looked to Kiamba with a worried expression, as if she feared him rejecting the three of them. For the first time, she did.

Sawia turned at the appearance of Kilindi and aimed a playful paw whack at her ear -- but then the adults were talking again, and she forgot about any sort of harassment she might have carried out against her sister.
She blinked once, twice. Father?
Never before had Sawia even thought about the possibility of a father. There was just Mother, and Kilindi, and the rest of the coalition.
There was more talk, most of which she didn't understand, but she understood body language all too well. The grey stranger -- Kiamba? Father? -- looked like was either going to dart away or faint. Mother just looked suddenly very upset. Tomoyo -never- looked upset.
Sawia's ears flattened and she huddled against her sister, wondering what in the world was going on.

Kili flicked her abused ear, sweeping her tail against Sawia's. But then Mother stepped behind them, and suddenly there was no more hiding behind her legs. "Fa..ther?" she had time to intone curiously, before everything went weird.
'Father' wasn't looking well, and from the sound of Tomoyo's voice, not everything was alright there, either. And it was getting Sawia all out of sorts too.
Surrounded by uncertainty, Kilindi couldn't help but feel it creep in on her as well. Putting a foreleg 'around' her sister, Kili watched the bluish-grey male with clear blue eyes, expectant. Someone was going to make things happy again, right?

Tomoyo offered with a soft smile, as if to assure Kiamba that she didn't blame him for anything, the circumstances, his confusion, his feelings, none of it was something that he should feel guilty over as they were all out of his control. As it was she was feeling some of her worries ease a bit. Nodding as he repeated their names correctly, Tomoyo felt contentment returning, and couldn't help but smile more from behind the girls. Who would've thought today would turn out like this?

A brief moment of chilling silence --
And then everything was all right again. It is said children see and understand much more than many adults give them credit for; such was the case with Sawia. She didn't understand much of what was said, but she understood now that everything was all right, would be all right. Mother was smiling again, Father was looking much less green around the edges.
She took a step or two forward away from her sister, her ears perking. "Sawia'na'mifu," she stated proudly, her tongue tripping a bit on the syllables.

Reassured at last, Kilindi perked up again, offering Father a cheerful smile. She was much less dignified than her sister, though, bounding forward instead of stepping, which put her practically under her Kiamba's nose. She looked up at him with tail swishing, and after her sister's introduction announced brightly, "Kili!"

"Yes," She smiled, curling and uncurling her tail around her haunches before she moved to Kiamba's side, circling back to face the girls with a contented smile. Their family was complete again, and this time hopefully it could stay that way. What would the future bring their way, though? It had always brought them along like this before, it brought them this far. She was sure that whatever happened next, whatever was meant to be would just be.
For now, right now, and here, everything was perfect and as it should be.
