Neko Girl

PostPosted: Sun May 14, 2006 12:35 am

Demare watched as Kimiko and Mayu stood, a part of him still feeling bad about what happened. Could she really be THAT forgiving? Even if she was, it wasn't something that he would simply just forget. Maybe he could do something for her...

"M-Mayu... do you think I could make this up to you somehow...?" he found himself asking, contemplating what he could do. "I know you accept my appology, but... I still feel bad for what happened. If there's anything I can do..."

"Well," Mayu began, then stopped. "Maybe ... No, no."

Feeling the sudden need to cut in, Kimiko suggested, "The park?"

"Yeah, the park! That's a great idea!" Mayu grinned, glad that she didn't have to suggest anything herself. She didn't want to pass herself off as a leech or something. Looking over to Demare, she stated in the most serious tone she could make (which wasn't really serious at all, but that's beside the point), "You, sir, are going to accompany me on a trip to the nearest park! If that's okay with your mom?" She tossed in at the end, looking over to Neko.

Neko had to think about that for a moment. She wouldn't be around to help him if he needed it... but he should be able to take care of himself, right?

"Sure," she agreed with a nod. "Just be back by sunset at the latest. Is... he going to be a problem?"

Demare knew who she was referring to, and gave it a thought. He had cast the spell from one of the books that morning, one that was supposed to be some sort of strong sleeping spell. It was just a matter of figuring out if it would really work or not.

"If anything starts to happen, I'll be sure to keep away..." he said, unable to give much more assurance than that.

"Alright, sunset it is!" Mayu nodded, glancing toward the window. The sun was high up in the sky, and there would be plenty of time to play at the park and get back to the house with an ample amount of time left over. "So, where is the nearest park around here, anyway?" She asked to the boy, heading for the front door.

Kimiko watched the two leave with an odd little smile, then leaned over to Neko. "If you don't mind, I think I'm going to follow them and keep watch, just in case." She said, waving goodbye to the lady. "It was nice meeting you!" She beamed, then walked after the children.

Demare blinked a couple of times as Mayu had begun to drag him out of the house. She almost seemed... excited. Maybe too excited... but, he knew it would be fun.

"Well, there's one just a few blocks away from here," he told her, remembering the one Manior liked to wander off to. "It's pretty nice. There's this little playground area, a trail to take walks on... I think there's a few food and candy vendors around that one, too. Oh! They also have this really pretty fountain."

"Sounds fun. You lead?" Mayu said, relinquishing her grip on the boy's wrist. She wasn't quite familiar with this area of Barton, and would probably get them both lost if she lead. Hearing a small skritching noise, she turned around and saw an empty sidewalk.

"Must be the wind," she muttered, turning back to Demare.

Breathing a sigh of relief, Kimiko peered out of the alleyway tentatively. Stalking was a fun job, but dangerous if she got caught. Ducking behind a group of girlfriends chattering away, she quietly observed the two walking ahead of her. Overprotective mom? Please!

Demare was curious as to what Mayu was looking for, but also saw nothing as he'd turned to look behind them. Maybe it was just an animal of sorts... Well, so long as it wasn't anything harmful, there shouldn't be anything wrong, right?

He held out his arm a little bit, in case she wanted to link her arm around his, to be escorted more properly.

"It shouldn't take too long to get there," he said with a smile. "I think it's only a 10 minute walk."

"Alright," Mayu nodded, taking the invitation to link arms.

Kimiko was ducked behind a tall gentleman reading the newspaper, and peered out with sneaky eyes. The little--! She fumed silently, her precious little girl was linking arms with this.. this.. boy!

Just then, a man with a black ski mask pulled over his head ran by and snatched the small purse Mayu carried around, along with her charm. Dashing off in the other direction, he sprinted for a while, making sure no one was running after him. Opening the bag, he dropped the jewel inside, that would fetch a hefty penny. There was also 1000 gold inside, and a feather of some sorts. Not exactly the jackpot, but at least it would buy him dinner for the day.

"THIEF!" The silver-haired girl shrieked, hand reaching to her side. Her charm and her purse, gone! What would she do?! Releasing her arm from the link, Mayu ran after him, though got little distance before she realized that sandals were horrible shoes to pursue a person in.

Demare stopped as he merely felt a rush of wind run past them, and then someone's back as it continued to run. What the...? His eyes widened a little bit as he caught a glimpse of Mayu's charm, his heart stopping for a moment as he heard her cry.

A thief? This wasn't good! They needed to call someone for help! They needed to...

...take care of this themselves. By the time anyone would show up, the guy would be long gone, and so would Mayu's purse. Narrowing his bi-colored eyes, he sprinted forward into a dash, not even thinking about whether his body would be able to take on whatever he did. He didn't even notice that he ran past Mayu as quickly as he could, his eyes fixated on the man. Children tended to be faster than adults, and they had a lot more stamina. He knew the guy would run out of breath at some point, but he was determined to catch him before that would happen.

What would he do, anyway? It wasn't like his small form could take the guy on in a fight, much less be able to tackle him. He had to do something. ANYTHING.

Demian would have been much better for this sort of thing... Clare didn't have any ideas.

Mayu had kicked off her sandals, running in her socks after Demare. She really needed a pair of tennis shoes for this sort of occasion, she thought, and reserved that in the back of her mind. She really was a fast runner, despite of her branches, and bounded just a bit after the boy.

Oy, great, the kids were chasing after him now. They were a weird-looking bunch, the two, but the thief thought nothing of it. Gold was gold, after all. Starting to run again, he manuvered between crowds of people easily, as he had been snatching purses and wallets for most of his life.

Mayu's cry of thief was a shocking one to Kimiko, and she turned to watch the two Legends dash after the adult recklessly. They had a point in this, however, calling for help would do no good. Most of the people which had walked by looked to be obviously incapable of catching even the amatuer pickpocket. Leaning behind a tree, she decided to watch the children's attempt to catch the thief. She would rush into action if they really needed help.

Demare was beginning to have a little trouble keeping an eye on the man running through the crowd of people. He was going to lose him! There was no way he could get through all of these people in time.

Unless... he went over them.

He looked over his shoulder, noticing Mayu was close behind. She couldn't be that heavy, right?

"Mayu!" he called back to her, stopping after a moment and looking back to where the man was. "Hold on to me! We're going up!"
PostPosted: Mon May 15, 2006 4:45 pm

"We- we are?! Can't we just call the police or something? I'm sure someone here has a cellphone I could borrow!" She sighed, smacking her forehead. "Alright, but don't drop me!" She hissed, clinging onto the boy for her life. Even at the low altitude, being smacked onto the sidewalk sounded very uneasing.

The little brats were gone. Heaving a sigh of relief, the robber stopped his sprinting and began to walk down the street with a calm demeanor, pulling the ski mask off of his face and wearing it atop his head like a hat. The crowds had probably been too much trouble for him, he chuckled, and even attempted a whistle.

What were they trying now? Kimiko groaned, upon realizing that they were actually going to try to fly. The boy's wings didn't look like they were enough to keep himself aloft, and he was going to try carrying Mayu as well? She predicted that this was not going to end well, and slipped into the crowd herself. At least she would be there to catch them if they fell.

Demare had uneasily managed to lift into the air, feeling a lot of pain with his right wing as it attempted to keep them aloft. Clare was right, however; Mayu was pretty light. Hovering high enough over the crowd of people, kept watch for the thief. He wasn't too much farther ahead, but it was simply a matter of keeping him there...

...His dagger. Maybe he could pin the guy down somehow.

"Mayu... I need you to hand me my dagger," he requested, his eyes narrowing down into a glare. "I need it in my right hand..."
PostPosted: Mon May 15, 2006 5:08 pm

"Alright," Mayu nodded, peering down. Now where the devil did he keep that thing? Aha! Drawing it from its niche with one hand, and careful not to drop it, she handed it to the boy.

The man made the mistake of glancing back, and noticed that the boy was... FLYING?! With the walking tree too! And what was that he had in his hand, a dagger? Groaning, the pickpocket began to run again. There was NO WAY he was going to die, not for a sissy girl's purse.

Gah! He was moving again! Demare opened his eyes wide, taking the best aim he could, and threw the dagger toward the man. Unfortunately, doing so also made him lose balance, and the child began to dip down toward the ground, his wings already very tired.

Luckily, his aim was good enough. The blade torn right through the man's sleeve (though not his arm or hand itself), and sunk right into a nearby bench seat. Unfortunately, it also sunk right through Mayu's purse, trapping it with the man's sleeve.

"ARGH!!" Demare grunted, trying hard to pull up. It wasn't working, however, his back aching from being in the air for so long and his arms getting tired from holding onto Mayu. "Crap! Keep holding onto me! We're going to crash!"

Well, at least they'd have a "soft" landing. The halfling managed to steer them right into the thief, trying to take most of the shock as he did his best to protect the tree girl.
