"OOF!" Soco grunted as Kiki flew against him. He caught her in his arms and pulled her down as he fell backwards. He tried to laugh even as his lungs tried to regain the wind that had been knocked out of them.
It was difficult, needless to say... but the laugh came from deep within his stomach, and he found himself helpless to stop it.
He loosened his grip sometime during his episode, and he held a hand to his face to hide his grin as he stared up at the girl sitting on his stomach. "Guess I'm 'it,' again, huh?" he asked.

Kiki breifly wondered as she was falling if anybody would get hurt. She ended up sitting on Soco's stomach, staring down at him. He began to laugh, a loud, startling sound. Kilayla couldn't help laughing along with him, a high pitched, shrill sound. Her hands flew to her cheeks as she laughed.
Soco asked if he was 'it' again.
Kiki gasped. "You're it!" she cried. She scrambled up off of him, eyes wide and full of laughter. "You're it!" He hair had all fallen from her ponytail some time during the tumble, and it framed her face as well as stuck up in a few places.
She began to give that mad giggle again, and ran off in the direction of the water, yelling over her shoulder, "You can't catch meee~!"

"I'm gonna get you!" Soco called after her. He got to his feet and took off after her. He saw where she was headed -- saw the roots and the rocks close to the water's edge -- and put on an extra burst of speed. His long legs helped him to catch up to her quickly.
It was odd that, before he'd moved in with the Karlet's, he had never had to run so much. He still wasn't in very good shape, but it hadn't caught up to him, yet.

Kiki was giggling madly. She heard Soco behind her, and turned her head to yell to him, "Can't catch me~!" She gasped halfway through the sentence, though, because Soco had sped up. Kiki screamed with laughter in her voice and tried to run faster. Running felt so fun.
Kilayla turned her head back foreward, and her hair whipped into her eyes. "Oww!" she cried. After a second, she began to panic. Her first instinct was to stop and pull her hair out of her face, but that turned out to be a bad idea.
When she stopped, her body wanted to keep going, and keep going it did. Kiki saw the grass, Soco, the sky, then the grass again. Somewhere in the back of her head she thought, green and blue, are so pretty...

Soco reached out and got an arm around Kiki's waist, swooping her up and away from the drop-off and back to safe ground. "Got you!" he said with a sigh of relief.
He took another shaky breath as he set her back on her feet and brushed the hair from her eyes. "Kiki..." he hesitated, trying to decide if he should chastise her or not. It wasn't really her fault, after all. "How about no more tag, for now, okay?"

Kiki's mind was reeling as she was set back down on her feet. She felt her face crumple, but she refused to cry. She grabbed onto Soco, breathing heavily.
"S-s-sorry," she stuttered. Kilayla felt her throat closing up. In response, she rubbed her eyes on her sleeve...which left her face with a brown smear down the side.

Soco responded to the clinging with a tight hug of his own. He held her close until her breathing settled down. "It's okay," he murmured, "you're fine, now." He pulled away as she rubbed at her eyes. Blinking at the brown smear, he reached into his pocket for a handkerchief and wiped it away.
"There." He smiled faintly. "Would you like to stay here at the lake for a little while, or go to the mansion?"

Kiki sighed and stuck her finger into a hole that had appeared in the knee of her plain black pants. She looked back up to Soco, an expression on her face that was somewhere between a smile and a frown.
After a second, Kiki said hopefully, "Maybe we can go see your library?" and plucked a blade of grass from the curls on her shoulder.

Soco gave her a nod and another smile. "Of course," he said. "And I can sew that hole back up for you, if you'd like."
He glanced around for his book and quickly found it. He held it in one hand, while offering Kiki the other. "To the mansion!"

And so, the two set off for the Karlet mansion, hand in hand, with the birds singing their joys of the day.
(( Theif and I are going back to our little PRP thread, leaving "The Lake" as it's own separate little RP space for anyone else who would like to use it. 3nodding
