Hey Jeshica, biggrin The first thing u need to do is speak up! Talk to people you know that can play. Ask around they'll show up. If you play guitar and and you know a drummer your set...thats the first step. Even if your still players short keep on practicing your material with what you have.

13 aint to immature people. I started a band at 12. eek Yes shocking. Luckily i was blessed with music programs at my school that taught bassits and drummers and i had friends in them. But really just find a good bassist, if you can, then add a drummer later if you cant immediatley find one. and DONT ASK A PERSON YOU AINT KNOW. They may pick their nose on stage... just a word of wisdom..

I want to start a band too. I know a drummer, but he's cocky and he isn't playing the same music as I am. But if I have a band I still need a place for repetitions...

Territorial Art At 13, there is no absolute possible way your going to get a good, crisp, strong band.I've tried doing that many times when I was younger and no one is serious at 13. Hey, I'm 13 and I'm pretty serious. (at least i like to think so...) i have two really good players, a drummer and a bassist who both aren't doing this just for kicks. But we've gone through two or three singers and they've always been so obnoxious and annoying, always messing around, singing in front of us all the time, but then when they get twenty feet from a mic freak out. Currently we don't have a singer. You need the right people. Half, or unfotunately more like a quarter of the people who may be in your band are serious and can play. The other three quarters have bad taste, can't sing/play, always mess around, don't take it serious at all, etc. Good luck. It helps if you go to a public school xd . (public schools rock. literally.)

Yay, I go to public school!
I think while you are looking for people, define what music you want to play and start writing some material, even if it's a little. Don't start a band, get together for a jam and then have absolutely nothing you can work on. Tell people what you want to do some covers of. Most importantly, get everyone to start learning the song way before you jam.
You don't need all the instruments at first. Though naturally, bassists and drummers can be hard to find.

Usefull advice, you need to find people who like the same music as you do, and who will be serious. I'm 14, I Jam with friends, but we can't start a band due to lack of interest in the same music.
The band I was in was decent for 14 year olds, but they all fought way to much and tryed to get me to side with one another. So I left.
Friends, always ask friends first.

just play and get together with others that you know play the wanted/needed instruments (the reason i'm saying this is cause in my experience some bands just want 2 guitars, a bass and a drummer, while others want all that AND a piano player or something else.)
thats what happened with me and this friend. she showed me one of her songs and since then we've been doing stuff together. of course, it probably helps that we take music lessons together (though, unfortunatly i'm the better guitar player out of us two, but i'm the pianist... sweatdrop )

yea, jam with people who play bass or drums or even another guitarist and then if u get good and have no problems, go on to becoming a band. every friday, i used to go to my friend's house with a million other friends who played random instruments but didn't work b/c some ppl liked to play loud and some ppl didn't like to play loud.

headbanger29 DigitalTrowa Drummers tend to be in high demand, thus the cocky attitude. Not such a great thing. Ugh...that rule applies pretty much everywhere I believe. Funny...Here it's bass players. confused We have more drummers and guitarists than we know what to do with.

I also want to start a band, once I get better at guitar and drums, and I wonder how people go about getting hired to play shows and all that.

Just try to start one with a few friends who are interested. At 13 you wont have a band thats really solid but you can get one thats fun to start with. And as you get older, if you guys are serious you can continue to buy better equipment.
