A lovely, familiar and above all hunger inspiring scent intruded upon the reddish brown cheetah's uneasy dreams. Her stomach fought with her need to rest for a few moments longer. Finally, her need to rest conceeded defeat and allowed her to begin waking up.
"Hwah...?" she muttered groggily, her nose twitching as it caught the scent of zebra only a foot or so away. Umeme blinked a few times, then shook her head to clear the last of the sleep-fog away. And then, bright golden eyes fell upon the zebra carcass.
"Jani, you actually found, caught and dragged a whole zebra up here? You're going to share, yes?" She eyed it expertly. "It's a little more than I can manage to eat all by myself, all other earlier exagerations aside..."
With a tiny groan as sore muscles rebelled, she pulled herself upright and moved towards the zebra. Now that she was awake and moving, her stomach was making itself heard and she fell ravenously upon the meat.

Janis mint coloured eyes were closed as he listened to Umemme, he smirked just a little, he couldn't help but laugh at her amazement "Well you said a whole one" he muttered playfully stretching out his forelegs and toes one at a time before his eyes opened and he padded over in a few odd bounds before sitting, straight as a die his toes pulled tightly together so that he sat in a some what graceful manner. Of course most cheetahs would be stream lined when they did this, Jani was not having buildt up his forequarters so that he could hulk himself and the mass of meat he needed to survive.
He sat in silence while he watched her eat, he wasn't exacty starving, of course a treck throught he trees with something as large as a zebra was a task and he would need to refuel before hunting again but he could wait until she had eaten her fill before filling his own belly.
"I did so want to see a cheetah eat a whole zebra hooveds and all" he gave a playful wink and another of thise white toothed grins. "Eat your fill, you need it far more than me I assure you" he whispers his ears flickering and twitching as he looked away. Was he acting like 'mother' again? He really didn't mean to she could take care of herself knew what was best for herself. She was after all a fully capable female, she didn't need his constant worrying over her.

Umeme considered that, then began to laugh softly.
"Yes, I suppose I do. But you can still come over here and eat too," she narrowed her eyes and gave a mock growl. "In fact, I won't touch another gobbet of meat unless you do."
She sat up primly and grinned a bit at the green male. Chivarly and gallantry were nice, she thought. But that was still no reason why he couldn't eat with her.

The big male looked a little abashed, he really had neevr had to deal with females before, he thought he was doing the right thing. Still he grinned and settled down in a haunched manner taking a big bite out of the zebra without another thought, blood splattering opver his maw and cheeks though it was quite difficult to see against his dark fur.
He glanced up at her after swallowing and waited for her to join him.

Umeme winked at Jani before returning to her meal.
"See? This is a lot nicer than us takin' turns at the meat."
She gave up attempting conversation at that point and simply ate, purring contentedly all the while.

Jani ate his fill before sitting and grooming his dirty maw, cleaning away the blood "I'll take the carcass out in a while, noone will smell it throyugh the jasmine" he whispers touching the little females shoulder "eat your fill then rest" he grins broadly stretching his own bulky limbs as he padded in that strange limping gait of a manner to where he had settled to rest earlier. He yawned widely showing his raspy pink tongue to the world. Sleep perchance to dream of another day.

Umeme glanced up from her meal, hastily swallowing a lump of meat. Mentally, she tallied how much she'd eaten and somewhat reluctantly pushed herself away from the meal.
"If I eat any more, I'm sure I will explode," she murmured. She stretched and yawned, then settled down to the task of cleanign bits of blood and gristle from her face. Once she considered herself reasonably clean, she stood and padded over to where Jani lay, then flopped bonelessly beside him and curled up.
"Night, Jani," she whisepred before scooting a bit closer and dropping off into sleep.

The big green male looked a little surprised at first, though he soon smiled looking over at the zebra. They would get another meal out of it before he would dispose of the carcass.
He yawned, showing his pink tongue once again as he lay his head over her shoulders "Goodnight Umeme" he whispers, puuring softly as those mint green eyes closed and he happily slept, curled up with the little femme.

Umeme slept dreamlessly. When she woke the next morning, she simply lay where she was, enjoying the warmth being generated by Jani's body. Sooner or later, she thought, I will have to move. But she was unwilling to be the one to disturb the peace.
After a moment, the muscles in her leg decided to twitch and cramp. Swearing softly, she edged herself from the green male as carefully as she could. Once clear, she paced around the den and slowly stretched protestign muscles.
She brought the bruised tissue back under control and sat to absently clean her face. IF anyone had told me, she mused silently, that I would be struck by lightning and a week later be perched in a tree with a male cheetah who prefers the treetops tot he ground, I would have said they were crazed.

Jani had been awake a good few hours when Umeme started to stir, of course, he had stayed resting. there was no need to move. There was still food a planety upon the zebra carcass and the sounds of the love birds above said that tere was no danger near by.
He stretched his mucles as she moved from beside him and yawned "did you sleep well?" he questioned slowly opening those mint green eyes. He smiled and slowly, perhaps even reluctantly he sat stretching and rolling his mucles. This was his waking up activity, stretching those thick mucles ready for the daily leaping. Intinctually he knew that if he didn't do this he would strain his mucles.
After a moment he got to his foot paws and padded over to Umeme in that strange, hobbling c**k eyed gait. His aws were unusually sore this morning. That walk accross the jungle floor did his feet no good, still, the aches wouldn't last long. "How are you feeling?" He tilted his broad head looking her over to see how her wounds were bareing up.
He stopped gawking after a mom,ent and looked up at her with a sheepish grin, perhaps he realised his looks may be misconstrued as 'checking her out' he was unused to any other cheetah, let alone a female, but his 'mother' had long ago told him not to gawp at a female, it just wasn't a nice thing to do. Clearing his throat he nodded "I hope you didn't tire your mucles out too much. We will have to start strenghtning them if you are to tree jump" he smiled, there were ways to teach it. His had been by force but he had adapted because of his slighter frame and become a tree runner. He would be more careful with Umeme, but he was eagre to get started if she felt up to it.

Umeme turned to smile at Jani.
"I slept very well and other than a few cramps, I feel fine," she replied. "But, in the interest of keeping me from becoming a true invalid, I think it might be a good idea to not have any lessons today. I'd like to just rest and take it easy for a day."
It wasn't easy for her to admit to not being up for anything, but she had to be completely honest with Jani.

The big male smiled sitting next to her he leant his nose down and touched her back legs wearily "yes you wouldn't be able to jump very far if you got a cramp." he grins cheekily settling down next to her once again he folded his tail around his own back legs "I think a day of rest would do us both good" The green male smiled in a charming manner.
"Perhaps when you are feeling a bit better I could take you to the edge. i remember you said you miss the savannah" he looked accross his den, he didn't want to loose his new companion but he didn't want to force her to stay either. "Are you enjoying your stay in the jungle though?" it was a sudden question perhaps and he did not look at her for fear of conveying too much. His own kind in the trees, it was a comforting thought to perhaps one day not be the only tree leaping cheetah.

Umeme considered his question, giving it her full attention. She thought about what she'd learned of him so far. It must be terribly lonely being the only one of your kind in a place, she thought. Out on the savanahh, there were many cheetahs. Not always easy to find, but they were there. In the jungle though... Jani was the only cheetah other than herself in the place.
Terribly lonely, she thought again. There were many questions layered into the one he'd voiced. And all of them deserved as honest an answer as she could come up with.
Turning her great golden eyes to the green male, she allowed a small smile to flicker across her face.
"Maybe one day you can show me the Edge," she replied. "But for now, I see no reason to leave this lovely place. Survinving in the jungle seems to be a difficult life, but it's one I will gladly attempt to learn."

The large green male almost melted whens he said that. She wished to stay. He breathed a slight sigh of releif, he wasn't going to loose her. Turning those minty green orbs on the little femmehe flickeerd his long tail and smiled up at her, icey eyes meeting golden orbs. "I think our first meeting must have been a blessing" he stated with a cheery grin petting at her front paws though he looked to the leafy floor of the den as he did so.
Turning his gaze up once again he smiled shyly. "You can stay heer forever if you wish.." He paused, was he saying that too soon? They barely knew each other after all, he simply felt, attached to her, he had never had to care for somone, and somone of his own kind whom wanted his help, whom needed it and was willing to stay despite the strange circumstances.... He perhaps was smitten, which may have been a bad thing but he didn't want her to leave. In a way, he needed her, she was a link to a world he didn't know, she was a link to being a social beast instead of an outcast. She was beautiful, he had already gotten quite used to looking at her, to listening to her breath. He had never been smitten before.
Smiling weakly, he cleared his throat "perhaps we should take another go at the zebra before I get rid of it..It will start to smell once the sun hit's it's zenith" he whispers, changeing the subject was easy to do. he wanted to ask her questions and for her to reply andask him questions too, but he wasn't quite used to such social things, so changing the subject to something more, benign, was so much easier.

Umeme's grin deepened as she turned to the remains of the zebra.
"By all means, friend, let's strive to keep the scavengers from getting too fat on your kills. I'm starvign this morning."
She gave another stretch and hid her thoughts under a carefully crafted facade of guileless gold eyes. He wanted her to stay, he wasn't going to chase her out once she was healed, and he seemed to want a friend as badly as she did.
As she dipped her mouth down to take a bite of zebra, she paused and smiled warmly at her companion.
"You know, Jani, I think you're right. I think us meeting was very much a blessing. I am very happy to be here."
