"Told you I would have made the worlds worst housewife."Jess frowned, yet again really annoyed with her lack of skills. Sighing she whacked Kayne with the towel and shooed him out the way. "I can take out several grown men with my bare hands but do something simple like cook soup, or not make an arse out of myself oooh no."
Grabbing the pot she filled it with water and soap and left it to stand. Brushing past Kayne she semi stormed back into the living room and flopped down on the sofa. "I'm such a ******** disaster." She huffed folding her arms and half watching the drama again. "I can't even cook soup without messing it up. How pathetic is that."

Kayne laughed and gingerly dodged the offending towel. He watched her walk irritably over to the sofa and his face softened. Bending over he grabbed the next biggest sauce pan and then went to grab a can of chicken soup out of the cupboard. Placing the pot on the already warm burner he poured the soup into it. While he waited for it to heat up he went back over to the sofa and sat down next to Jess, slipping his arm around her shoulders and pulling her up against him.
"You're not a disaster Sensei. So what if you can't cook worth shyte? You're a good person where it counts, and you can level anyone who gives you shyte about your cooking skills in no time flat. So you're not a total loss as a woman," he grinned, resting his heavy head on top of hers. After a few moments he pulled away from her and went to go stir the soup. Seeing that it was heated all the way through, he pulled out two bowls and ladled it into them. He returned to the sofa and handed Jess one of the bowls.
"Not as good as homemade, but it works," he smiled, folding his legs Indian-style as he blew over the top of the broth.

Jess leaned against him, the combination of being sick, her sprained wrist and underlying embarassment from the other night all coming to a head with the burned soup as an excuse. "You're sweet Shaidey, but I reall am a walking disaster outside of the dojo. It's like the source of my power." She smirked and watched him dissapear off to the kitchen.
Jess copied his cross legged style and took the bowl of soup, it smelled really good. "Ahh you see, that's one thing about my grandmother's soup. It did the trick but it never did taste very good." She smiled and breathed in again savouring the delicious smell. "Are you feeling any better?"

Kayne laughed at her description of her grandmother's soup, and spooned some of his soup into his mouth. Swallowing it and savoring it against his throat, it took him a moment to answer her. Clearing his throat, he leaned over and picked up the tea to take a sip.
"Well... I feel like a thousand elephants are tap dancing in my skull and that several of them are sitting on my chest as well at the moment. But given the circumstances, I suppose that's an improvement," he said wryly. "I really appreciate your company, even if you did stink up my room. You're helping me foget about feeling like crap," he grinned and ate another spoonful of soup.
"How's your wrist?" he asked, once he swallowed his soup.

"That's good to hear. At least I'm not having a totally adverse effect on your recovery." She ate some soup and smiled. "Much, much better than my grandmother's crap." She gave a smirk and turned back to the TV. It was some bright anime, meant for children but with the usual porno overtones.
"That's a lot of elephants." She mused eating more soup. "Have you tried inhaling eucalyptus oil in water. That's pretty good at shifting stuff."
Jess sighed and looked down at her wrist. "It should be fine by next week. I can't wait. Not being able to vent my stress is just about killing me at the moment. I can't even practice punches against a bag until it's healed. So I'm limited to kicks. My legs are getting a good work out though." She gave a small laugh and looked around the room. "How's your sister doing? I haven't had a chance to speak to her, what with her brother being so high maintenance."

Kayne shook his head no at her suggestion. "I'll have to try that," he sniffed. He listened to her as he steadily spooned soup into his mouth, smiling a bit.
"Cirrie? She's been alright I suppose. She's been a bit secretive though. I know she's keeping something from me. She came back to the room the other day with a funny expression on her face, but wouldn't tell me what was wrong. And I'm not high maintenance," he grumbled. "She's pretty mad at me for running around in the rain and getting sick," he said, eating the last bit of soup. He set the empty bowl on the coffee table and turned to lean his head down on her shoulder. He found that keeping contact with her made him feel immensely better. "Don't worry though, Sensei. I haven't said a word about your little escapade. Cirrus just thinks I'm a bloody idiot," he grinned, closing his eyes again.

Jess smirked at his description of Cirrus, though she was worried for the poor boy who had given Cirrus the smile. Hopefully she would be far enough along with Kayne's 'anger management' that he would accept it when he found out. "Well, you know us women." She said. "A total mystery." She would take Cirrus' secret to the grave with her, rather than having Kayne ruin the poor girl's happiness.
"I appreciate it." She said sincerely putting her hand against his forehead as he leant it on her shoulder. He was still burning up, but not nearly as much as earlier. "Seriously, I could have lost my job over that escapade. I really do appreciate your descretion and your help that night." She sighed and leant her own heavy head against his. "That's me sworn of alocohol for the next month." She muttered, her eyes growing heavy again.

Kayne snorted softly at her explanation about women. He felt her rest her head on top of his and again smiled in content. Right now age didn't matter. Her role as mentor didn't matter. All that mattered to him was that sitting in her presence made him feel better. Her cool hand on his forehead caused him to sigh, and he reached up to hold it there. He heard her last comment, but didn't reply as he was already starting to fall asleep again.
Cirrus walked back to her room, concern etching itself across her face. She prayed that when she opened the door that Kayne would still be in the room and not the hospital wing. She hated seeing him sick. She slipped the key into the lock and turned it to find the door was unlocked already. Frowning a bit, she opened the door to find an interesting sight on the couch and an awful smell permeating the whole room. Placing a hand over her nose, she silently shut the door behind her and went to set her backpack in her room before walking back over to the sofa and staring down at the odd pair sound asleep there. The smile on Kayne's face was a rare one. One she had not seen often. But the reason for the smile caused Cirrus to frown. She knew her brother greatly admired Ms. Montecelli. But surely he knew that nothing could ever grow between them. Slowly she leaned down and placed a hand over her brother's brow and was relieved to immediately find a difference in temperature. Glancing over at Jess, a small smile tugged at the corner of her lips. She then moved away from them to the kitchen to make everyone something to eat.

Jess woke feeling emmensly worse than when she had fallen asleep. Sniffing she looked up and towards the kitchen Cirrus must be back. Easing herself away from Kayne she walked over to the kitchen and leant against the door frame. "Sorry about the mess I had a bit of a soup disaster." She croaked, sounding extremely bunged up. "Can't cook for s**t."

Cirrus glanced over her shoulder when she heard Jess slowly approach the kitchen. At her croaky words, she smiled warmly.
"It's alright. I've already cleaned it up," she said brightly. "I've burned plenty of things before." She stirred the heavy stew, then turned to face Jess with a sincere look on her face.
"Thank you so much for staying with him. I felt so awful leaving him this morning, but I seriously needed to work on my lit project. I know it means a lot to him, and just as much to me," she said. "Now... you're staying for supper. No arguing. And I've got just the thing to help clear out your chest and throat," she said matter of factly and turned on her heel to open a cabinet where she kept all of their medicines.
Kayne cracked an eye when he felt Jess move, but allowed her to move his onto the back of the couch. He thought he smelled something delicious, but didn't care. Sleep felt so good right then, he just wished the warm body he had been snuggled up against hadn't left.
Cirrus found the medicine she had been looking for and handed it to Jess. She glanced over the other woman's shoulder to look at the top of her brother's head lolling back on the sofa. Concern filled her eyes again, but she didn't say anything. Instead she turned back to the stove to check on the stew.

"You feel awful." She said coming into the kitchen. "I feel terrible about getting this training idea into his head. He probably wouldn't have been out in the rain for so long without my pushing him." There although she didn't want to admit the truth she had taken some of the blame from Kayne's shoulders.
Taking the medicine from Cirrus she smiled. "Thanks love." She said warmly going back to the table and picking up her now stone cold tea to take the tablets. Giving a look of concern she felt Kayne's head. It was cooler than before but still not good. Gently she pulled the gel strip off and replaced it with a fresh one.

"Well... to be perfectly honest, this isn't the first time he's done something stupid like this. I just thought he had learned his lesson from the last time," she said softly, looking over at her brother again. Cirrus heard Jess set the mug back down on the table when she finished taking the medicine and watched her out of the corner of her eye as she went back into the living room. Despite the worry that had settled in after seeing them lying on the couch together, Cirrus had to smile at the tender look that came across Jess' face as she tended to her brother.
When Kayne felt the cooling gel being pulled off of his head, he cracked an eye again to look up at Jess. Smiling, he shivered a bit when she put a new one in its place. Taking a deep breath, his smile turned into a teasing grin.
"Either you miraculously learned how to cook in the last hour, or my sister is home," he croaked weakly through his sore throat. "Could I trouble you for some water?" he asked, frowning at the rawness burning down in his throat.

"Yup." Jess grinned. "And she's saving me from burning my apartment down."
Shaking her head at his request she turned back to Cirrus. "Is he always like this?" She asked moving back into the kitchen to get a glass of cold water and then returning to hand it to Kayne. "There you go Sir. Anything else I can get you? Caviar, some fine sushi. A smack round the head?" She put her hand on her hips and returned his teasing smirk.

Grinning Cirrus reached down to pick up the small towel on the counter. Quickly she wiped her hands clean and turned to face Jess.
"Our entire lives," she replied. Then she reached up into one of the cabinets to grab the last of the clean dishes. She quickly and efficiently filled the three bowls, then carried them over to the coffee table. She laughed at Jess' words and stood up to get the silverware.
"I think a sound smack on the head is due," she said, returning to the living room. She gestured for Jess to sit on the couch next to her brother and she took up residence on the opposite side of the table, kneeling on the floor.
Kayne took the water from Jess and swallowed half of it in one gulp. Pulling the glass from his lips he glared at the two girls. "You're both too kind. Here I am with a thousand elephants still tap dancing in my head and you're going to be so cruel," he said, pulling himself up to lean over the bowl Cirrus had set in front of him. "Just remember Sensei..." he trailed off, giving her a loaded look.

Jess smirked back at Cirrus and sat on the couch the stew smelled amazing and once again made her wish she could cook. "I would smack him round the head, only I'd probably make him cry." She yawned a little and picked up the spoon. It had been a long, long time since she had, had homecooked stew. Just the thought of it made her feel happy and warm. She was so used to fending for herself it felt good to have someone cook for her.
At his remark Jess shot him back a death glare. "Low Shaidey, so very low." She muttered through clenched teeth before taking a mouthfull of stew. "mmm god, Cirrus this is gorgeous." She grinned.
