Ligeia lowered a hand down and laid it down on Vorel as if to make sure that he was still there and being good. After that and after what she had said it was a little nerve wracking but so long as Vorel behaved himself they would be ok he was sure. It wasn't as if he was going to do anything purposly to get the teacher's gaze back to focusing on him.
"We are going to have to be careful." He murmured to the frost dragon who really seemed unconcerned. No doubt because he still had one of his treats which kept his mind busy. Ligeia pet him again affectionately before he turned to look over at Indigo, what was the 'detention' that Raven was talking about? Something bad if the girl was going to have to stay after school. He would have to ask his father about it, better to ask about it then get it right?

Indigo sniffed, a sticky sound, and scrubbed at her face with all of her hands. The outburst of tears had lasted a matter of moments, but it still left her feeling awful--to say nothing of the thick wad of glue in her throat. Ugh. She ducked her head and, discreetly as she could, made a noise very like a cat hacking up a hairball. It was unpleasant, but it worked, and she rolled the glue wad between her two lowers, tucking it away until she could get to a trashcan.
She looked up at Keanu with reddened eyes as he made his way over to her, managing a wan and heartless smile. "Thanks," she said quietly. Citrine, meanwhile, unfolded and refolded her wing, wuffling a draconic hello to Ymir. The dragon looked away again as Indigo got to her feet, scrubbing industriously at her smudged glasses with a corner of her shirt. Finally, the velvet worm set her glasses on her nose again and looked up at Raven.
"No," she said, voice quiet and wavering. "I'm not gonna stay for detention and neither is Citrine. I'll be in your class and be quiet and learn things, but we're not gonna stick around to be punished 'cuz of an accident that didn't hurt anybody or anything." The velvet worm took a deep breath, resting a hand on her dragon's head for strength. Citrine wuffled quietly, curling her tail around her paws and staring at Raven.
"An' if you don't want me in your class 'cuz of that, or just 'cuz my mom punched you, then we'll go find someone else to teach us magic." All that said, she took a deep breath and let it out in a shuddery almost-sob--then scooped her backpack off her desk, putting it on and seating herself on the chair, halfway between staying and going. Nervously, she rolled the ball of glue between her lower fingers, as Citrine tucked up close to the desk and lay her head on her paws.

The leopard had no idea he'd been so close to the dreaded detention. Certainly he wouldn't have blamed Indigo if he was to get in trouble. Keanu strongly believed oness punishments should only come from one's own actions. It was as simple as that. If Ymir broke the vase, it was Ymir who would need to make up for it. Likewise Ymir would not be included in things when Keanu got in trouble. If they both messed up? Well then they both got in trouble. It all made sense really. But the point was, he had chosen to try to make Indigo feel better, and if he was to be punished it was his own doing. Nothing else.
For his bit of effort he did get a small thanks from the girl, which was enough to bring a smile to his face. He might have chirped a 'Your welcome miss monster!' to try and further the smile, but the teacher dashed any hope of that. Well, maybe he did have a soft spot for upset people, but he was still the same overly happy boy deep down. Likely he always would be.
Both eyes did turn up to the teacher when she began speaking. Especially when the detention came up. He blinked at her a few times. He didn't say a word about it, but it did seem a little wrong. Then again, this was her class. She would run it how she liked, right? He stood up, as if to take his seat when she turned away to continue, giving Indigo one last look before turning to step off. Or... Not.
Eyes widened as the girl suddenly spoke, and he glanced over his shoulder rather amazed. He never would have spoken to a teacher like that, never EVER. But there was Indigo defying her. His jaw almost fell open a bit. Even ifhe didn't approve that it was fiar to punish people, he would have taken it to show respect to someone who could do something he did look u to. He couldn't use magic and Raven could. He respected her for the useful knowledge and ability she did possess, thus the idea of what Indigo was doing seemed... Well shocking.
And frightening.
He'd only known the teacher for a moment, but this seemed like it would blow up. Big time. And if Keanu saw that, oh dear... It had to be apparent.
Ymir wasn't quite as off guard as Keanu, but still gave the girl a look, then the teacher. Bad indeed, he was not going to get caught in this, and neither should the leopard. He nudged the boys leg, before tromping toward one of the front row desks quietly, casting a glance back t the odd girl and dragon. He didn't dislike them, he didn't dislike anyone, but this couldn't end well. Simple as that.

Raven sighed. Didn't D-Corp, with all its technology and research, have a way to keep moody teenagers from having melodramatic fits? She would have to speak with someone about it in the very near future. For the time being she would simply have to deal with the situation before it got too out of hand.
She definitely didn't like some of the things Indigo was insinuating. Like the fact she told the entire class about the scuffle with Jenner, and placed herself in a victim spot. In truth that did impact Raven's judgement, but it actually worked to Raven's favor. If anyone else had thrown the chair she would likely have called in their parents. Not wanting to deal with Indigo's possibly saved the velvet worm from something worse than detention. Then again, considering Jenner preston's previous behavior, it was impossible to be sure.
More important was the threat to walk out. On occasion Raven had banished students from her classroom, but she'd never had to deal with one who wanted to leave of their own free will and might actually act on it. D-Corp was sure to be displeased if one of their precious subjects wasn't educated properly, and as the responsible adult in the situation Raven was sure to get the blame. That absolutely could not be allowed to happen. But punishment had to be metered as well.
"Miss Preston," Raven began slowly, "you are being entirely unreasonable. Perhaps the incident excited you to the point where you did not understand my words. Even if the chair did not hit anyone, it might have. Should I rescind my rules because you were lucky? Accidents are accidents, but if forgotten they do nothing to teach the caution and mindfulness that is so needed, especially for those of you with such wilful partners. I am treating you- both of you- exactly as I would had anyone else thrown that chair, even the child under my own care."
That was only partially true. The last time Anoki Kenelm had upset her books, he'd not only been lectured and made to reshelve them all, he had to clean all the shelves and tables with a nasty smelling liquid. But that was different. Anyone under her care had to be a good reflection of her. With the others it wasn't quite as important.
"If you sit down, and see me after class, we can try to put this ordeal behind us. However if you insist on acting like a child having a tantrum because things aren't going your way, you will not be helping anyone, especially yourself. You may have a moment to calm yourself down. Have a seat."
And again, Raven turned to the door to attend to other students. She couldn't put all of her precious time into one misbehaving student.

This wasn't really an answer Indigo liked, and it showed in her gray eyes. She nodded reluctantly, however; she'd already gotten herself in enough trouble, and as much as she wanted to keep resisting... She did kind of want to learn magic, and she could only kick against the pricks for so long. Letting her backpack slide to the ground next to Citrine, she looked up to see Sahra across from her.
It took her a moment, but she mustered up an almost-smile for the cheetah. "Yeah, I'm okay," she replied. Once the other girl had moved on to sit with her dragon, Indigo looked back toward the front of the class, mentally resolving to keep silent for the rest of Ms. Millner's lectures. No more outbursts.

Keanu cast a look at Indigo, then at the teacher as she began to speak. She seemed slightly more calm now, still strict, but... If there was anger, it was more masked. At least Indigo wasn't being kicked out though, which seemed to be the best possible result all around. Yea, Indigo was still in trouble, but at least it wasn't anything really bad.
Actually it could be made better. Though the idea had to wait a moment as Sahra walked over, he cast a smile in her direction which was far more b bright now that he'd come up with a solution that might make Indigo feel better. No one would mind it either most likely. Well as long as the teacher had no objections to it.
"Indigo, I can stay after with you if you want?" He asked, noting that Ymir was still looking at him from under a desk in the front row. He was waiting quietly, and thankfully, carefully. His tail might have idly been sweeping back and forth, but never with enough force to nudge anything out of place. "That's only if you want though." He added, standing up as well to start over to the desk. "But first let's all learn about magic!" He grinned toothily at the idea of what they'd come here for and shoved a few loose strands of hair back behind one of his ears.
Then it was off to his seat to plunk down like Ymir had been hinting at, and giving the white creature a stroke on the head. "No talking now." He said quietly down at the dragon who gave a quiet chirp of reply before laying down fully.

That was better. With a satisfied look, Raven nodded and turned her attention to the chalkboard at the front of the class. She wasn't going to waste any more time. They had run through much of the class already, just with the students' tardiness and irresponsible behavior. Frowning a little, she selected a long piece of chalk, and in a practiced cursive wrote the following.
To practice magic, one requires:
"One requires three things to practice magic. I will allow you a few moments to think, and then ask you each to name one of these things. Use the time wisely."
Finally the teaching had gone underway. Since it had, Raven stepped over to the door, closed it, and locked it. Any other students would by this time be so late that she simply didn't want to deal with them. They would have to face detention and a make-up lesson. That one thought was enough to spend on such unworthy students, and Raven looked back to the few who had at least bothered to show up.
"Now, someone please give me one thing you need to practice magic."

Quickly slipping into the nearest chair, obviously her actions having gone unnoticed, which made the spotted feline quite satisfied. It seems things might get better, hopefully. I don't know how else to help, hm, maybe I'll get another opportunity. Thinking to herself, she had almost completely zoned out. Lectures were just to boring for her, she needed some interaction, even if it left her seeming as dense as a brick.
"Um," she started, attention falling to her side for a short moment as her partner slithered back to her side. Resting his head in her lap, he gave a large yawn, teeth baring innocently, obviously not even noting the existence of the so called teacher, at least not any longer. "Well, I don't know to much about this sort of magic, but maybe common sense? And always abiding by the safety rules? Like dressing correctly and listening to your instructor? Especially while in the, um, lab?" It sounded somewhat right. Those were the same things she remembered learning from one of her mother’s old friends, someone who was long come now. A chemist named Tianna.
Not noticing she had blurted something out, Sahra had never been introduced to the concept of raising your hand. Even though it may not matter. At least she tried, right? I'm not so sure of this, now... she thought to herself, Maybe I should have just kept quiet and blended in with the, um, desks. But it was to late now, oh well.

Despite her earlier resolution not to say anything, Indigo's hand shot up almost as soon as Raven started looking for answers to her question. She did manage not to bounce up and down on her seat or babble "pick me, pick me, pick me!". Her arm did start getting tired after a few moments of being held up in the air, and she supported it with both her lowers.
It took her a moment to realize that Raven hadn't asked for hands, and she dropped hers just as quickly, chewing on her lower lip. She glanced sidelong as Sahra gave her answer, then down at her dragon (curled up against the desk, now), before looking up again. Once the cheetah was finished speaking, Indigo cleared her throat, before offering her own comment.
"Uhm. Will? I think that's what it's called. It's kinda--you have to want to do magic."

It took them forever to answer. It wasn't as if Raven actually expected them to get anything right; her reason for asking was to dispel common misconceptions about magic. When one finally started to answer, she listened, nodding a bit. It wasn't a bad answer, but not a good one either.
"Despite its name, common sense is not nearly is common as one would hope. Nevertheless, practicioners of magic are automatically expected to abide by the rules, among those the ones you mentioned. To do otherwise would be to invite cataclysm. Your answer is technically not incorrect, merely something that we believe should go without saying."
And then the problem child began to speak. Raven winced slightly, but listened. At least she had raised her hand. And even more astonishingly, her answer did more than make sense. She begrudgingly had to give Jenner some credit; the girl had an idea of what was going on.
"Correct, Miss Preston. To perform magic, you must will it to happen. This goes beyond belief, which has foundations in doubt, and wanting, which has foundations in greed. You must allow it to happen, and will it to be with every ounce of your soul. Otherwise you could know every spell in the book and gesture with your arms until you propel yourself off the ground. Nothing will happen without will. It is the single most important aspect of magic, and the hardest to grasp. Very good."
She wrote "will" on the board, then turned back to the class. "There are two more. Anyone?"

Ligeia listened to those around him, trying to remember what he'd heard from his father, what he'd told her that Raven had said. Something about Aptitude. How sheer force of will could make up for the lack of natural aptitude wasn't it? He couldn't exactly recall since it was a while ago, and he found himself a little unsure of himself and speaking outloud the idea since she was a little bit intimidating. He looked down at the desk in front of him and chewed on his lip.
He finally decided to chance it, the worst that he supposed could happen would be that he was wrong, right? Then he would learn what the right thing was? Ligeia lifted his hand, a little afraid of drawing attention to himself from the teacher then said the word after swallowing and gathering his courage, "Aptitude? My Father told me about you telling him about that." He said, breathing a sigh after getting the words out.

Finally, one of those misconceptions. Raven sighed, pondering how to handle it. "Actually, while aptitude for magic is certainly helpful, it is not absolutely necessary to work magic. That is to say, if someone were desperate, they would be able to work some spells without a trace of ability. However, if one isn't adept, they're not likely to get far. A few simple spells may be within their reach, but power and yes, aptitude, is required for higher ones. Aptitude also develops as one learns. Someone could be hopeless in the beginning, but work up a certain ability as they learn."
A sort of smile flickered across Raven's features. "So I'm sorry to disappoint you, but no one will be getting out of class with that as an excuse. Now, does anyone else have a suggestion?"

Ligeia nodded as she spoke then turned his gaze down to the notebook in front of him and started to scribble down notes quickly, getting down what she had said just now and the few things before. This would help him out when he wanted to go over things later, when he wanted to pratice. That and if he needed to be ready if there were a test of some sort.
He looked up at the teacher then tilted his head to the side, wow... the teacher could smile? He couldn't decided if it made her more pretty or scary. Maybe both?

Indigo let out a quiet sigh of relief as Ms. Millner accepted her answer and even wrote it on the board, settling back on her stool. She glanced over at Ligeia as he offered his own answer, then back at Raven--and blinked in mild shocked. Wow! She could smile; that was a new one on Indi. The velvet worm, however, didn't volunteer any other answers--she was afraid of giving a wrong one, and somehow erasing the slight ground she'd gained by knowing will was one of the ingredients to magic. Oof.
Citrine opened one eye where she lay beside the desk, looking toward the other dragons, before settling down into sleepy immobility once more.
