The arrival

Nikiana was sitting behind her rather cluttered computer desk, typing away at some paper or another. The woman didn't realize how long she'd been sitting in that same position typing until the sudden knocking on the door. The noise echoed through the silent house, reaching Niki through her concentration and the clicking of the keys.

The woman started and suddenly groaned. Her back! She really needed the break. Slowly, she got up and stretched, poping her back in such an unladylike manner before heading towards the door.

The knocking came again and Niki muttered "Yeah, yeah, coming" under her breath as she lengthened her stride. She unlocked the bolt and opened the door, raising an eyebrow at the visitor.

The man was tall and he wore a labcoat. Nikiana did not recognize the emblem on his coat, but had little time to study it. What was he doing here?

"Miss Ledell, am I correct?"

"Yes. And who are y-"

"No time for that. Come." Turning, he gestured to her jeep. Niki blinked, standing quite still. The man turned and waved an arm. "Come, come. We haven't got all day."

Niki shrugged and turned, reaching inside for her keys. She locked the door and headed over to her vehicle. The man got in the passenger seat and Niki started the car, following the man's directions.

After a while, the landscape became bleek and there was nothing around. Nikiana began to wonder where this man was leading her. Finally, a building appeared. It took Niki longer than she thought to get there, for the building was reeeeaally tall. She parked in one of the many open parking spots in the almost vacant lot and shut the engine off.

She turned to ask the man where they were, but he'd already gotten out and was heading inside the building. Niki sighed and unbuckled, locked the car doors, and headed for the entrance.

Once she got inside, the woman looked around for the mysterious man, but, instead, was greeted by a woman. "Welcome to D-corp, Miss Ledell. If you'll just follow me. You have to fill out some paperwork, but then you'll be able to get her and go on home. Shouldn't take too much of your time."

The woman started walking, but Niki just stared at her as if she'd spoken Latin. "Uh, excuse me. What??"

The woman, who was also in a labcoat, Niki noticed, turned. "It'll all be explained in just a few moments. But first, let's go sit down. Would you like something to drink?"

"Water..."

The woman nodded and motioned for Niki to enter an office. Nikiana took one of the empty seats across from the desk, pondering what was going on. The woman returned shortly with a plastic cup filled with ice water and handed it to Niki before sitting behind the desk.

"Now, Miss Ledell. We know that you are familiar with human genetic manipulation in vitro. Fortunately, our experiments are greatly more stable than yours.."

Nikiana stared at the woman for several moments. Wait... They knew about that?? No one knew about that! No one... other than Tara. Had Tara blabbed?? No. Nikiana knew that. Tara would never tell. She'd sworn secrecy.

The woman continued on. "You have been selected to help care for and raise one of our children. The child will need to attend special classes here. A list of all the requirements needed will be given to you. Any special events that come up will be brought to your attention through mail. Now, I just need you to sign a few of these documents..."

Niki came to and looked over the documents carefully. If she was leaving this building with a child, she wanted to make sure she wasn't signing into something wierd. But the documents were fairly standard and Niki signed them, pushing them back across the desk to the woman.

"Alright! Ready to see her?"

Niki nodded and the woman smiled. They headed back towards the lobby, where another labcoat-wearing man was holding something. Niki couldn't really see it from her angle, but as she and the woman drew closer, the man turned and Niki could see the cutest little child, sound asleep on the man's shoulder.

"She was infused with koala DNA. Be sure to keep lots of notes and let us know if anything seems wrong. If she gets sick, bring her here to our own doctors." The woman told Niki, handing her a manilla envelope of information.

The man shifted the slumbering child over to its new mother. Niki gently took the little girl, holding her close and smiled at both. The woman added, "Don't forget, her first day of class is Monday. Until then is to be spent getting used to one another."

Niki carried the girl out to her jeep and drove home. She'd have to do some work to one of the spare bedrooms to make it a home for this little one. But Nikiana couldn't stop glancing back in the rearview mirror to gaze upon her little daughter every few moments. Such a cutie.

Journal entry: 4/17/06

I have only had Ala for a few days, but she has made such a drastic change in my life. As soon as I brought her home, still sound asleep, I laid her on the couch while I went to work on one of the spare bedrooms I'd done nothing with. I'd wanted to turn it into a library or reading room, but never found the time to work on it.

I checked in on Alaqua ever few minutes, but she hardly stirred. Several times I found myself just watching her sleep. I worked all afternoon on her room and had just finished around sunset. I was heading towards the kitchen when Ala suddenly squealed.

I jumped, for the house had been rather silent at the time, but dashed into the living room to have the little girl suddenly fling herself at me, clinging tightly. I shushed her, patting her head gently.

I showed Ala her new room and she seemed happy with it, but refused to get down and look around. I took her to the kitchen and then realized I didn't know what she even liked. So we raided the fridge together. She seemed to like some of the apples I had in there, but didn't show much interest in anything else. So I peeled and sliced her several apples, though it was hard to keep ahead of her, since she was clinging to my stomach and eating them almost as fast as I could slice them.

I was tired from working on her room all afternoon, but Ala was awake. So I took her to her new room and we walked around, playing with one of my old stuffed animals. I was planning on buying her some new ones, but I figured she might want one for her first night.

After a few hours, she seemed a bit sleepy, but refused to get into the twin bed I had in the room. She clung very tightly to me and made little panicky noises. Rummaging through the garage, I found an old hammock and Ala, once she figured out what it was, clapped her hands happily. So it was out with the bed and in with the hammock and Ala was quickly asleep. I was not far behind.

Yesterday was Easter. I got up early to do some researching on koalas before Ala woke up. I found quite a bit of interesting information on them. Also, I looked inside the packet I'd been given when I got Ala and found a flyer for an Easter Egg hunt at D-corp. It sounded interesting and would be something for Ala to do. Besides, I figured she'd probably better start getting to know some of her future classmates.

Well, Ala found all five eggs at the hunt and won several prizes. I was very proud of her. She even got down from clinging to me, though she tended to stay to higher areas while searching. It seems that if there's something for her to do, she may stay on the ground. I'll have to work with this some.

After the egg hunt, Ala was getting sleepy again, but I really needed to do some shopping for her. So, she clung to me and dozed while I found her a few outfits. Then we were off to the grocery store. Ala wanted some lettuce and a few fruits. Having read up on koalas, I picked up a fair bit of lettuce.

While checking out, Ala found a packet of gum to be interesting, so I bought it for her and gave her a piece, telling her to just chew it, not to swallow. She seemed happy with the gum and was soon smacking away at it. Which was the sound I got to hear all the way home, where Ala quickly went to sleep.

Ala has started her classes. She seems to like her teacher, though I haven't met the woman. I knew class would be interesting, considering Ala's tendency to stay off the ground. I carried her into the classroom and set her into a chair. She whimpered a bit, but once I sat down next to her (quite difficult to manage in those small chairs!) and started coloring, she calmed down and wanted to color. I handed her the crayon and slid the paper towards her. She was so absorbed in drawing that I could slip out.

I feel bad for the teacher. I know she had to have cried after she realized I was gone. I felt bad about leaving her like that, but she had to go to class.

Well, after her class was over, I picked her up and she clung like crazy to me. She was clutching a whole bunch of papers, which I looked at later and saw to be homework. The ABCs. She told me she was supposed to color them at home.

I was trying to head back home, but.... well, we got lost. But I ran into a boy named Ligeia Solon. He already has a dragon, which I've been informed that Ala will have one when she gets a bit old. Thrills. Though Vorel, Ligeia's dragon, seemed rather well behaved. Well, other than trying to pounce me when I first entered the classroom. Luckily the owl boy was able to stop that from happening.

Ala was very interested in Vorel, nicknaming him 'Worrel'. The little dragon seemed quite happy to be used as a perch for the toddler.

Come to find out, Ligeia's father is a teacher at D-corp. He's going to be holding a climbing class soon, or so I was informed. Alaqua will love that class. I've gotten used to her using me as a climbing post. After a few scratches, she's learned that she doesn't have to use her claws on me.

Ligeia also has a little brother. Ala was calling him Ter. I didn't catch the boy's real name. Ter is a snake child and Ala was fascinated with his scales. She was telling me how he felt funny, but a nice funny. Personally, I'm not big on reptiles, but Ala doesn't seem to have that problem.

Poor Ala fell asleep while I was talking with Mr. Solon, so we had to cut the chat short. But he seems like a nice guy. I think Ala will like his classes.

After Ala had her nap, I had her start on her ABCs. She seemed to kinda grasp the concept. I had to start prying the green crayons away from her after I saw the first sheet.

C is for cookie...

Nikiana was sitting down with Alaqua at the table, going over the worksheets together. "That's the letter G. G for gold. Gold is yellow," Niki told the young koala girl, handing her a yellow crayon. "Why don't you color the G yellow?"

Ala took the crayon, scribbling over the letter G. Niki sighed and looked at the next letter. "H, for hawk. Why don't you color the H brown?" She traded Ala crayons, handing the girl a brown hued one.

Ala smiled and took the brown crayon. She applied the brown color to the letter H and looked back at her mom about the next letter.

"I. For Igloo. Or Ice." Nikiana didn't figure Ala would know what an igloo was, but the girl knew what ice was. "Here's an icy blue to color it with"

The woman and child continued to go over the next two worksheets, Nikiana pointing to each letter and saying it aloud, then what the picture was with it and what color of crayon she was handing Ala. The young child seemed to grasp what was being said and was able to identify most of the letters after she'd finished coloring them.

"Which was was this?" Niki asked, pointing to the K.

"K, for kan'aruh!"

Niki smiled. "And for koala, too. Just like you." The woman gently poked the girl's nose, which caused Ala to giggle.

"K for Ala."

Niki shook her head. "No, your name starts with an A."

The girl looked puzzled, so Niki took a green crayon and a blank sheet of paper, carefully writing Alaqua's name with block letters. "That is your name. Alaqua."

Ala looked at the Q and U. They hadn't got to those yet. "More lettars?"

Niki nodded. "Yes. You've done a little over half of them. Still some more." The woman started writing something else under Ala's name on the sheet of paper, changing to a blue crayon.

"What are those letters?" She asked, turning the paper for Ala to see better.

"N....I...K..I....A...N...A...." Ala slowly read, pointing to each letter as she said it aloud. Okay, so it was a bunch of letters. She looked back up at her mommy.

"Correct. Those letters spell out mommy's name." Niki took the paper again and wrote another name below the other two. "Try that one."

"L...E...D?" Ala looked up to see Niki nodding, then kept going. "E... L,L."

Niki smiled. "Right! Those letters spell out our last name. We both share that name."

Seeing Ala start to fidget, Niki put the crayons back in the box. "Ready for lunch?"

The girl grinned and nodded her head excitedly. It was lunch time!

"Echid-Echi...? Eddy!"

Alaqua was sitting at the table eating lunch and Nikiana was in the kitchen cleaning up when the doorbell rang. The woman put down her sponge and crossed the living room to open the door. There she spotted a delivery man. What had she ordered recently?? The woman couldn't think of anything.

The man handed her a clipboard and pointed out where she should sign. Niki did so, accepting the box and closing the door. The box had several small holes around the top. Odd. The woman looked at the label for a return address. None. Odder still...

Shrugging, Niki took the box to the kitchen, placing it on the counter. Opening a drawer, she took out a pair of scissors and cut the tape on the box.

"What the-?" Niki wondered aloud as she peered into the box. A pointy ball sat inside the box. Wait a minute...

"Ala!"

The child looked up from her salad. "Yes, mommy?"

"You got something in the mail." Niki told her as she carried the box to the table. "It's the pet echidna you won at the Easter egg hunt."

"Echid-Echi...? Eddy!" Ala remembered and peered into the box.

"Careful, Ala. It's spines can hurt you if you're not careful." She picked the toddler up. "Let's go see if we can find that old fishtank in the garage."

"Fishy tank?"

"Yes. We can keep your echidna in it. Put some dirt and a few wood shavings in at the bottom, a short little log for it to climb on. A water bottle..." As Niki continued to list off the items, she knew that she didn't have all of them. Like that water bottle. Oh well. A quick trip to the store would solve that.

After about ten minutes of hunting in the garage, the two reappeared inside the house, signficantly more dusty than before, but toting along the aquarium. Niki sat Ala down at the table to look at her pet some while the woman carried the tank outside to put in some dirt.

Not that much later, Niki carried the bit heavier tank inside and into Ala's room, placing it on the girl's desk. She went and fetched child and pet, bringing them back to the room. Carefully, the echidna was gently set in the tank.

"I've got to go pick up some things for your pet, Ala." Niki told her daughter.

"Wanna stay an' watch Eddy." Ala responded, climbing down to sit at her desk, elbows propped on the desktop and nose pressed against the tank's side.

Niki shrugged. She wouldn't be gone long... "Okay. But don't move until I get back, okay?"

Ala ignored her mother. Figuring that the girl probably wouldn't budge until the echidna uncurled itself, Niki quickly left.

Returning about thirty minutes later, with a small bag of pine shavings to mix in the dirt, a water bottle, and ten containers of bait worms, Niki carried the stuff to Ala's room. The toddler seemed to have not twitched a single muscle, but the echidna was still curled up.

Ala turned to look at her mother. "Eddy sick? He not move."

Niki smiled and shook her head. "He's probably just scared, Ala. Here. Let me finish fixing up his home and give him some water and food. Then maybe he'll start moving around."

Ala nodded and Niki carefully moved the creature to the desk. She poured in part of the wood shavings and mixed them with the dirt to give the echidna a better flooring. The water bottle was carried to the bathroom and filled it with water. She placed the drinking straw portion back on and carried the whole thing upside down, finally flipping it over when she placed it inside the cage.

Next, a container of bait worms were opened and spread out in the flooring. The worms didn't take long to start burrowing into the dirt/pine shaving mixture. Smiling, Niki placed 'Eddy' back in the cage and turned to Ala.

"There. He's all set up now. Give him some time and he'll soon be moving around."

Sweet, sweet silence

Niki rested her fingers from the constant pounding on the keyboard. With the noise of the tapping of the keys silenced, the woman realized just how quiet the house had gotten. Ala was a fairly quiet child for a toddler, but there was always noise still in the background. Something, be it the girl muttering to herself or humming or talking to Eddy.

Silence was not usually a good sign. Groaning and mentally swearing that she should never leave a toddler alone, no matter how much work she had to do, Nikiana left her office to investigate. Ala would most likely be in her room. The girl hardly left it, especially now that Eddy had arrived.

Niki knocked softly on the doorframe as she peeked her head in. Knocking because she respected the child's space. Okay, not really. Growing tired of Ala constantly running into her office, Niki finally taught the toddler how to knock. Which led to a long discussion on why. Short answer: Niki now knocks. And so does Ala. Most of the time...

The sight that met Niki's eyes brought a soft smile to her lips. The koala child was sitting at her desk, her head on the desktop. Ala was fast asleep. The woman gently picked the little girl up, carrying her to the hammock. Gently, she set Alaqua down, situating a pillow below the girl's head and covering her with her green blanket.

Alaqua sighed softly, shifting a touch. Niki held her breath, hoping that moving the girl hadn't woken her. But, with another sigh, Ala stopped moving and was sound asleep. Smiling, Niki watched her sleep for a few moments, then turned. Looking about the modified room, she wandered over to the desk. Next to Eddy's cage sat the last of Ala's ABC homework sheets.

Niki stared at them in shock. Ala had obviously taken her time with these and had stayed inside the lines really well. The woman looked up from the worksheets to the cage. Eddy was moving about, having settled into his new home, and was currently hunting about. Probably for a worm to eat.

Several ideas popped into Niki's head as she watched the echidna and she suddenly shook her head, trying to drive those ideas out. No, that had gotten her into trouble. And, besides, Eddy was Ala's pet. She couldn't do anything to the poor girl's pet...

1, 2. Buckle my shoe.

Alaqua sat at the kitchen table, coloring her last worksheet carefully. Her tongue was stuck partly out in concentration as she wielded a sky blue crayon against the number seven. Too short to comfortably sit in the chairs built for adults, Ala lay on her stomach on the tabletop. Best position for coloring, anyways.

Meanwhile, Niki prepared lunch in the kitchen. She planned on turning lunch into a continued lesson on counting. Various fruits and veggies sat on the countertop, awaiting the blade to hack them into smaller pieces more fit for toddler consumption.

"Here we are, Ala." The woman announced a few minutes later, carrying a plate and a bowl to the table. She placed the plate holding her sandwich at a seat beside Ala, then placed the bowl beside the girl.

Ala grinned, putting the finishing touches to her worksheet. "Done, mommeh!"

Nikiana smiled at the girl, picking up the piece of paper while the koala child put her crayons away in their box. "You did very well, Ala. I'm proud of you." She set the worksheet aside with the box of crayons and sat. "So can you tell me how many carrots you have?" Niki asked, pointing to the bowl Ala was about to start eating from.

The girl picked out the carrots from the bowl, holding them in one hand while pointing at them one by one with the other. "Five...?" The girl half questioned as a response.

"Right, five!"

Ala smiled and munched happily on one of her carrots. Then they picked out the four grapes, then the seven apple slices, the two wedges of orange, and finally the eight pieces of celery. Ala managed to get them all right on the first try, though some took multiple countings as if she wanted to make sure she had the right answer. Niki waited patiently, not trying to rush the girl.

"As a treat for doing so well, you can have four cookies," the woman told the girl as she picked up the dishes. Ala smiled and reached for the cookie jar in the middle of the table. Slowly, she picked out four cookies and then replaced the lid before settling down to eat her reward.

Of haircuts and new siblings

Ever since that first trip out to the supermarket, Niki had been a bit nervous about letting her toddler chew bubble gum. But the girl liked it so much. So the woman had warned her repeatedly to be careful. But she'd always had the feeling that this would happen.

It had started with a soft "Uh oh..." from Ala, which prompted a quick dash into the girl's bedroom from Niki. Where the koala child's dark grey hair had been growing out since she had been picked up by Niki, was now a pink blob. How had that much gum ended up in her hair?!

Nikiana had carried the child to the kitchen, sitting her on one of the chairs at the table. Now armed with a pair of scissors, the woman was attempting to cut the girl's hair. Which was difficult, seeing how Ala kept squirming.

"Ala! Stop moving!"

"NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! No cutting!"

"Alaqua Elaine! SIT. STILL."

"NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!"

The struggle continued for a few moments, while Nikiana managed to get the gummy hair cut off and thrown away. It was a horrible haircutting job, considering how Niki didn't know how to cut hair and then, on top of that, Ala's squirming. She was trying to trim and even the ends up when a knocking at the door distracted her, allowing Alaqua to escape, sobbing loudly, to her room.

With a sigh and the pair of scissors in hand, Nikiana went to open the door.

((Niki answers the door Here))

Now carrying a young chimp girl into the house, Niki glanced about for Alaqua. The girls should meet. Even if Ala had already seen her new sister and that was the reason for her slamming the front door and retreating to her bedroom to sulk again. Niki was beginning to wonder if the koala girl had hit her teenage years really early.

"Come now, Reign. We'll get your room all set up now." And Niki lugged the chimp toddler off to modify the spare bedroom.

Mail for Ala?

Nikiana had collected the mail and was browsing through it as she walked back towards the house. An envelope was addressed to Ala. And there was no return address. 'Must be D-corp again,' the woman thought, opening the door.

"Ala! You have mail!" Niki yelled down the hallway.

A curious head poked out of Ala's bedroom doorway. "Mail?" At her mother's nod, the koala child walked down the hallway to take the envelope from Niki. She sat down at the kitchen table while Niki glanced through the rest of the mail.

"Bills, bills, bills," the woman muttered, then sighed. "So what did you get, Ala?"

The girl held up a form. "This."

User Image

Niki spotted the letter that came with it and scanned it. So Alaqua was to fill this form out and they were to send it back. She was also supposed to send in a letter, updating them, huh? Oh well. She'd help Ala with the form first.

She nabbed a pen and handed it to the girl. "Alright, Ala. The first spot is for your name."

Laborously, the child slowly wrote out her name.

"Good job. The next asks how old you are."

"Thwee!" The girl wrote the number and looked up at her mother.

"Favorite color."

"Gween!" Alaqua started to put the pen to paper to write it, then looked up at her mother. "How do ya spell its?"

Slowly, Niki spelled the color out for her adopted daughter, wondering over the girl's response to the last one. "And the last one asks who your best friend is."

Ala sat and thought over this. While she was thinking, Niki started to write the letter to send with the form. She was almost finished with it before Ala finally answered, "Aye-Aye."

Niki grinned and looked at the girl, spelling out Aysel's name.

"Not how spells 'Aye-Aye'. Spell 'Aye-Aye'."

"Ala, they won't know who 'Aye-Aye' is. So put Aysel's real name, okay?"

Alaqua frowned, but started writing as Niki spelled out the luna moth child's name again.

"Alright, sweetie. Done. Good job. I'll send it off in a bit."

Ala ran back off to her room and Niki finished the letter, adding a line at the top, before placing both form and letter into an envelope.

User Image

Quote:
As asked, the form you sent was filled out by Ala. I had to help her a bit with spelling Aysel's name, she kept on asking how to spell 'Aye-Aye', her nickname for the catepillar child.

Anyways, I took her shopping the other day for some new clothing, seeing how she's about outgrown everything I have for her. I let her pick out her outfit (not sure if that's the brightest idea I've ever had) and she picked out a lot of green clothing. She now wears green capris or shorts with a slightly baggy t-shirt or tank top, tied with a green scarf like a sort of sash. The scarf's a bit long and trails a bit, giving her a sort of 'tail'. I'm not sure if that's because of her new sibling or not....

Also, Ala got gum stuck in her hair the other day, so I had to cut a lot of it off to get the gum out. And... well... I'm not a hairdresser... and Ala wouldn't sit still.... But it's not that choppy or uneven.... from a distance...

As it's a bit difficult for Ala to wear shoes, she now wears two pairs of green gloves, one on her hands and the other on her feet. The fingertips of the gloves were cut off so that she can still use her claws for climbing.

Sisterly.... hate??

It had taken Nikiana longer than she'd thought to fix up Reign's new room, what with the chimp child pulling an Ala and clinging to her the entire time. Oh well, she'd gotten used to it. For the most part.

It was now dinner time and Niki was reminded that she didn't know what the marmoset child would like to eat. Oh well, she had a lot of veggies and fruits now, because Ala wouldn't eat any meat. Niki personally hated most veggies and loved meat, but... to each her own.

"Ala! Dinner time!" Niki told her other daughter as she exited Reign's room and carried the girl to the kitchen. She opened the fridge. "Okay, Reign. What do you want to eat?"

The toddler continued to suck her thumb, peering into the fridge.

"How about an apple?" Niki asked, picking up the fruit in question.

Reign blinked, which Niki took for a yes and set the girl down at the table to cut the apple up. She placed the slices in a bowl before Reign and wondered what was taking Alaqua so long.

"Ala!! Dinner!"

A muffled reply was heard and Niki walked down the hallway, knocking softly on the door as she opened it.

Ala jumped up from her desk and ran across the room. "Not hungry!!" She shouted as she slammed the door in her mother's face.

Niki blinked. What had gotten into Ala? Her daughter hadn't acted like this before. She sighed. Oh well.

Alaqua continued standing at her door, listening to her mother's footsteps grow softer. With a grumpy sigh, she returned to her desk. "Mommy likes Reign better than Ala..." The girl stated as she sat down.

Tears slowly rolled down her face as she watched Eddy wander about his cage. Truthfully, she was hungry. But eating would mean leaving her room and facing her mother and... her. She was stealing Mommy away from Ala. It was no fair.

Well, Ala would just have to take that girl back to those people who came and brought her here anyways. She'd tell them that Mommy didn't want her. Yeah, that's right. That's what she would do!

But when? And where would these people be? Alaqua groaned as she encountered bumps in her plan. She'd have to think more over this...

Return Policy?

The house had grown silent, with most of its occupants in bed. Niki and Reign slept soundly in their rooms. However, Alaqua was still awake. And hungry. She hopped out of her hammock, where she'd been trying to fall asleep, and quietly strode to her door. Opening the door slowly, she heard no noise from her mom's room or her sister's room.

Grinning, Ala traversed the hallway, sneaking to the kitchen. There'd be something for her to eat in the fridge. She opened it, spotting a bag of baby carrots. Jackpot!

A handful of carrots later, Ala replaced the bag. She was about to turn and go back to her room when a small card on the fridge caught her attention. Slowly, she worked out the words on it. Oh! It was the card Mommy got when Reign came! And there was an address! Perfect!

The girl ran to her room and grabbed her little bag where she kept her small amount of allowance money. Then she crossed the hall to Reign's room.

"Reign. Reign. Wake up..."

The chimp girl weakly waved her arms about and Ala lugged the girl up from her pillow bed on the floor. "C'mon. We're going somewheres."

Reign rubbed her eyes. "Wheres?" She questioned her sister. Why was Ala taking her somewhere? Ala didn't like her...

"Go... get ice creams." Ala quickly made up.

Reign's eyes opened wide with excitement. "Ice creams?!"

"Shh... Can't let Mommy know. We go ourselves."

Reign nodded, putting a finger to her lips. Alaqua grinned and tugged the girl along outside. There was a bus stop not too far from the house. Right?

About shots and dragons

Nikiana
Dear D-corp,

It has come to my attention that Alaqua has not yet recieved any shots as of yet.

The woman sealed the rather short note in an envelope. She'd mail it off in a bit. First she wanted to talk to Ala about when the girl's dragon was to arrive. Hopefully, it'd still be a while before it hatched. But one could never be overprepared.

"Ala?" Niki called down the hallway. Two heads poked out of doorways across the hall from one another.

"Mommy called for me," Alaqua informed her little sister. Reign blinked and watched her sister walk down the hallway before closing the door and returning to whatever she'd been doing before.

"Yeah?" Ala asked her mother as she grew closer to the woman.

"I want to talk about your dragon, Ala." That caught the girl's attention quickly. The two moved to the couch and sat down.

"We need to set up some rules for when your dragon does get here."

"Okay..." Ala didn't seem quite so thrilled to be part of the conversation anymore.

"First off, no harming your sister. We don't have any extra rooms in the house, so I suppose you'll be sharing your room with your dragon. We'll put some pillows and blankets down for a sort of nest or whatever."

Ala nodded absentmindedly to what her mother was saying.

"Ala... listen, okay? Try to include Reign in with your dragon sometimes. I'll get plenty of meat once the dragon gets here and keep it in the fridge. Once we find out exactly what it prefers, I'll get a bunch of that." The woman went through a sort of mental checklist. Okay, food, bed, Reign...

"Also, I'm going to start now with trying to move all breakables out of a hatchling's reach. But... try and enforce the no breaking stuff rule? Please? Also, I'm thinking of fencing in the backyard so we won't have to worry about it trying to run off... at least not too easily on us..."

Ala nodded again. The fence actually did sound like a good idea... "Okay, Mommy."

Nikiana grabbed her daughter into a hug. "Just... try and be nice to Reign? I know you weren't expecting a sibling. And I wasn't expecting another child. But..."

"Okay, okay..."

Niki smiled. "When she gets a bit older, you'll have more fun with her. I promise."
