"uhm...I don't know." Hadrian admitted, pondering, "I mean, you could find out what sorts of things she enjoys and then...look for things that would include those things. Like....I bet she wouldn't like knitting."

"No," Galatea agreed absently. "Though she already has long, thin needle spikes." Pensive, she nibbled on her bottom lip. "What if... A new book? Or a new plant? I have heard her say nice things about the neighbor's kitchen garden."

"A new thing isn't really a hobby." Hadrian said, pondering, "Although I a plant could be a hobby I think. My mom gardens alot...has alot of plants...and spends alot of time messing with them. "

He tapped his chin, thinking, "Lots of people seem to read books really quickly. Your Captain seems like she would be one of those people who reads them fast."

"Oh, she does. Very fast. She is also very choosy about her books." Galatea made a vague motion towards the bookshelves. Squinting, Hadrian could see that there was not a single fiction book anywhere to be found and yet the range covered everything from the history of warfare to herbal remedies.

The books gave Hadrian a sudden idea. It was such an inspiration that he actually sat up straighter in his enthusiasm for it. "I KNOW! Her books. Maybe we can find a hobby she would like by looking at the books she likes to read!"

It was so simple that the dark-haired feien actually blushed in shame at not thinking of it herself. Nonetheless, she immediately stood and clasped her hands in front of her, smiling despite the blush. "You're so clever," she said. "Of course that would help."

Reaching out, she touched her fingers to his briefly before padding swiftly to the edge of the table and stepping off. Her wings caught her instinctively and she fluttered across the room to land on a shelf in front of An Incomplete Education.

Hadrian skipped swiftly after her, joining her on the shelf. He didn't think he was especially clever for coming up with the idea...but it was a nice feeling to be told he was clever anyway.

"Well...we can probably skip over books that aren't about...hobby like things. You know like..." He leaned forward and put his hand on one, "A history of Medieval Warfare." He read carefully out loud. "That doesn't seem like she could do that in her spare time."

"No but mostly because I believe living in the current era nullifies anything medieval." It was almost a joke - a sad, rather pathetic little one but it was a joke and she smiled a bit. Then she spun on her heel and paced down the length of the shelf, listing titles as she went. "Dead Men Do Tell Tales: The Strange and Fascinating Cases of a Forensic Anthropologist? Blood Business: History of Scotland Yard? Handbook to Life in Ancient Egypt? The Art of Courtly Love?"

((Yes, I am pathetically looking at my own bookshelf. ^^;; )

"The Art of Courtly Love?" Hardian echoed, in disbelief. Captain Rabik seemed to have vaguely morbid sorts of taste, with all that crime and warefare...that last title didn't really seem to belong.

Galatea nodded and touched a small hand to the spine of a book. "In French," she added. "She believes books should be read in their original language if possible." Which didn't answer Hadrian's baffled question at all but this was Galatea and it clearly did not occur to her that such a book would be out of place. "I read a bit of it once over the Captain's shoulder," she explained. "It is very strange. If a man seeks a woman's favor, he must devote himself to her and please her with poems and attention."

"That's the way it is in alot of stories I've read." Hadrian said, nodding. "Or...well or the man saves the lady from certain death, that sort of seems to replace the poems and attention."
The ludicrous thought that perhaps what Captain Rabik needed was poems and attention from a gentleman lodged itself in Hadrian's head, and after comparing it to 'Medieval warfare', True Crime, and his memory of the Captain storming through the room, it made him grin in amusement.

Galatea smiled in response to Hadrian's open grin. "What are you thinking, Hadrian?" she asked. "Did you think of an idea?"

Hadrian's belief was that honesty was the best policy.
"Oh I was just thinking about courtly love...as a hobby. Do you think your Captain would like someone writing her poems and giving her attention?"
PostPosted: Mon Apr 17, 2006 6:47 pm

"I don't know." Galatea frowned in thought and absently leaned against the book currently in discussion. "She doesn't know many men. Well, she -does-. She simply doesn't see them often." Suddenly, her pink eyes lit up with hope. "Do you think Dr. Beckham would write her poetry?"

Hadrian really ought to have known Galatea would seriously consider the suggestion. It occured to him that he probably shouldn't have brought it up. But...then again...he didn't know anything about Dr. Beckman...
"I don't know...does he like Captain Rabik?"
