shyfaerie Probably becuase they say "********" and f*****t" in one song. And he talks about suicide ("He blew his brains out into the bay") I'm not sure, lets read through the lyrics... Talks about alcohol, cigarettes and marijuana... and cocaine. s**t Maybe the "Zeig Hail" part? Kinda violent sounding... Dope... Shooting people down... Give me novocaine kinda like a drug reference? Bastards and the ******** word a lot in letterbomb. Homecoming says ********... and talks about drinking. Ok that's enough of that. I heart you heart That was the best defense for the Parental Advisory I've heard. Well I'll tell the 'rents what you said. But on the other CD's they make drug references, and cuss words. Well I'll see what I can do here. Again thank you Shyfaerie because that was.....good, the most information I've gotten and the most useful and helpful. whee

I can easily understand why it has it. Shyfaerie did a nice job explaining it. I just wonder why the OTHERS don't have them... eek
Warning is the only one that I've heard that would be iffy...except for the song "Blood, Sex, And Booze" and they say ******** in Minority. "A free for all, ******** 'em all, you are your own sight."
Kerplunk "All I wanna do is get real high..." - One Of My Lies The song Dominated Love Slave "Smoked my boredom gone Slapped my brains up so high" - Christie Road Drug references The story in the booklet? (Killing your parents to see the band in concert?) "Behind a smile and smoking dope it's crazy." - Android
Dookie "Smoking my inspiration" and "When masturbation's lost it's fun you're ******** breaking" - Longview Use of the word ******** says it's lack of sex that's bringing me down. I went to a whore..." - Basket Case The song "F.O.D." "In my smoked out boring room" - Burnout The song "Having A Blast"
Nimrod The song "Platypus (I Hate You)" especially the part where it goes "Dickhead ******** c**k-smoking ******** a*****e dirty t**t waste of semen I hope you die." Use of the word ******** in multiple songs "...and the kid's ******** up. I don't have sex 'cause I can't get it up." - The Grouch Reference to "huffing fumes" Suicide references The song "Take Back" I don't know if this counts, but reference to cross-dressing? xd I doubt it, but still...it's controversial. "inbred b*****d son" - Prosthetic head
I already went over Warning, and Shyfaerie did that with American Idiot - the album in question. Those are all the albums I have. But I can do a few songs from Insomniac...
Insomniac Drug references to methamphetamine Use of the word ******** I want to know how come American Idiot is the only one with a parental advisory? I think it's a bit unfair.
I don't know if it'll help, but tell them that American Idiot is no worse than any of their other CDs. Except with a moral at the end, kind of. It's a story about these things...and in the end he decides AGAINST that life. So...yeah. *shrug*

The above was VERY helpful as well. Yeah I was thinking of telling them the CDs I have are just as bad, but my brother said that may result in the confiscation of my current collection. I have no idea what they care about. I've been seeing R movies with them since I was in third grade. It's not like hearing about drugs is gonna make me want to do them. Plus, my dad is taking me to the AI concert in April, and that's WAY worse cause people will probably be doing stuff there, and Billie cusses like...I don't know what, and I know sometimes he does.....things....on stage....... xd So I'm going to get this stuff printed, the guide on GDA that explains the meanings of the AI songs, and all the lyrics and present a case. Perhaps I'll get a friend to burn it for me so I can let them hear it. Thank you to everyone who helped and I'm not ending this just yet! Anyone else with information feel free to step up!!!!
This is a much wanted CD to help complete my collection.

Huh . . . that's true, it doesn't have too many more swears than the others. I've wondered myself why the other CDs don't have advisories, they have tons of swears. But my parents don't care, they let me listen to/buy CDs with advisories all the time.

Just throwing my two cents into the mix here... (hang on, i'm english.... hmm...my two pennies it is...)
Could it perhaps be the general 'bush is an a*****e and this war is bullshit' thing that people don't want kids to listen to? I know I'm not exactly an expert (copying their CDs from the library doesn't count, I expect..), but to my knowledge GD haven't been very political in their earlier stuff, have they?
Could it be a conspiracy? Covering up the bush-bashing?
Or not... But anyway, just saying that it could be considered controversial for other reasons besides swearing and drugs...

American gouverment...Always put a sticker on everything. In Europe, we're more relaxt about it, tough I did have a sticker on Nimrod.
Well, I don't think American Idiot is so heavy. They're against Bush in a kind of...uhm..hard way, but you can think. If that's their opinion, it doesn't have to be your opinion.

Well I think it's probably now St. Jimmy that makes the whole CD Parental Advisory "I'm here to represent the NEEDLE IN THE VEIN of the establishment" "with a taste for SUICIDAL" "cigerettes and ramen and a little bag of DOPE" "Welcome to the club now give me some BLOOD" Yes it's all very pleasant.

AlienX xbluemoonx Because Walmart likes to stick tags to restrict everything. gonk I’d say the song St. Jimmy probably triggered it. Suicide commando, anyone? Suicide commando vs. blatant masturbation.... And as for Nimrod, I would think Platypus alone would warrant a parental advisory sticker sweatdrop I'm really not sure why American Idiot has the warning and the others don't. 'Tis very strange. I didn't know Platypus was that bad. I guess I wasn't paying very much attention to it when I listened to it I was in the shower. I just got Nimrod a few days ago, so I haven't really examined the whole thing very well yet - same goes for Insomniac. The Grouch is pretty curse-filled though.
I think one of the reasons that so many things are getting a Parental Advisory now is because the rating panel is getting a lot more strict with things like that. Probably trying to blame school shooting and such on music just as they have already blamed them on video games. Practically every CD I want now a days turns out to be Parental Advisory, and it pisses me off because even though my mom is being nice about it and letting me get most all of the ones I want, she's not happy about doing so. Because of this rating this, bands are losing lots of potential CD buying fans that resort to downloading the songs instead. Maybe it's for the best though. Who knows.

I mean it's like they blamed Marilyn Mason after Columbine (I don't listen to him but I've seen the Michael Moore documentary) and that one seriel killer was called Helter Skelter because of the Beatles' song. But there's no way that we can really have music translate into violent actions. I did a science experiment and it proved that the only music our body responds to is classical, so we cannot be influenced by rock. I think it's just a paranoid society- and the government is against the Bash Bush style. And then all the drugs. Drugs are the basis of St. Jimmy and parts of other songs (ex. Homecoming) Okay I'm done my babbling.

Here's my 2 cents:
I think that since about 2000 Parental Advisory has become a lot lot more well-known (at least in the UK anyway) and so that's why later albums do have the sticker. International Superhits! had a sticker (which I then stuck on my mum's Donny Osmond CD, but that is by the by).
I don't really see what is such the big crime with swearing, I mean as long as it's not used to cause offence then what is the problem? And sometimes it is the only way to really get the point across.
I would love to go to a Green Day concert and my parents are looking at tickets (even though I half think it is sold out) but they don't know about the whole masturbation thing though which I am a bit worried about. But they are fine with the swearing.

Well, some of the songs on American Idiot do kind of make me want to try smoking, but I'm smart enough to know that you don't just try it. You do it once and chances are you get hooked. And I think smoking is awfully filthy.
I'm jut saying - the rating people are dumb and paranoid and they want to take ever precausion they can to make sure they don't get in trouble for not PAing something and then having some crime happen because a kid got the CD and his parents didn't know about then references to drugs, etc.
Whatever.

I think it's a bit rude to say that the rating people are dumb because it is actually a decision on the part of the label and the artist so they did have a say in the matter.

I can see why American Idiot is parental advisory. *cough* St. Jimmy *cough* But I can't see why the others aren't. Dookie has Having a Blast, Longview, Coming Clean (is that considered "bad"?) and F.O.D. Insomniac has Brat, Geek Stink Breath, Panic Song, Brain Stew and Jaded. Nimrod has Hitchin' a Ride, The Grouch, Platypus, Uptight, Take Back, and King for a Day (??). All of those songs are probably not suitable for children but nope, they aren't parental advisory. I'm confused...
Government needs to get its act together. stare
