August 3, 2004 Shiaree Roleplay Session Begin
Characters: Muris, Aesculus
Summary: Muris comes to visit Aesculus and meet his mice! After a very fun day with Shiaree, Muris was quite settled in. And so her Kithain had gone off to check on the rest of her family. But truth to be told, she didn't much like hanging around the stables when there was nothing to be done-- she'd already made sure that all of the horses were properly groomed and fed and such. So she had decided that now at least was the perfect time to go visit Aesculus. He had said she could show up whenever she wanted, but she didn't want to seem to pushy or eager, so waiting a couple of days had seemed the best course. Walking quietly through the hallways, she managed quite easily to avoid being found by any of the others, simply because she was an expert at moving around without making a sound or attracting attention. She found the room he'd said was his without too much trouble, and knocked on the door. "Aesculus? It's Muri..."

His chair groaned as it was pushed back and its legs rubbed on the floor. He put down his quill and closed his tome, setting it neatly on his desk before moving to open the door. The smallest of the three mice, the young grey one, was climbing up the front of his robes, tiny pink feet grasping the cloth as it scaled him like a mountainclimber.
"Oh! Muris! I wasn't sure if you would stop by or not... it has been a couple days since I have seen you. Please, do come in."
His room was simple. A large desk with bookcases on either side of it dominated one section of his room and a large lush bed decorated with black and touches of orange, complete with a canopy, dominated the other half. In a corner there were two dishes, one with fruits and cheeses and the other half-filled with water. Considering the prestige and money he must have as a noble, the room was relatively sparse and empty of personal belongings save an old wooden chest that looked relatively neglected.

Shiaree "Awww!" Muris smiled softly as she saw the little mouse climbing up on his shirt, "I'm sorry I didn't stop by before. I didn't want to seem pushy or anything." She seemed quite different from the excited little creature he'd met before-- more gentle. Peering about the room, she took it all in, rather startled by the sparseness. She'd always thought nobles had rooms full of lavish silk curtains and expensive furniture and tea sets made of gold and stuff.

His rather serious-looking face is broken by a gentle smile. The mouse finally makes it to Aesculus's shoulder and peers at Muris, whiskers twitching as he closes the door behind her quietly.
"I hardly think you dropping by to see the mice would be pushy. You don't seem like that sort at all. How are the horses this evening?" He lifts the pulls the wooden chair from his desk near the best and neglected chest and offers it to her as he sits on the rather dusty block of wood. It's hard to tell if he even notices the chest is dusty. o__o
A couple more beady eyes peer from around the wooden storage unit, one accompanied by a small black body and the other a gray one much like the tiny mouse that is so friendly with Aesculus. Unlike their brethern, they seem much more wary.

Shiaree "Well, you never know. Pap...father always said to be careful 'round nobles..not that you're like any noble I've ever met, not screaming around mice 'n stuff." She took the seat, her little legs swishing back and forth a bit as they didn't quite reach the ground from it, "The horses are all doing really good. I made sure they were all fed and groomed 'fore I came here, of course." She peered at the little mice curiously, her eyes narrowing just a little bit so that it seems as though she's trying to look them in the eyes. A small smile lights her lips, "Aww...it's okay, guys. Aesculus and I won't hurtya!"

He chuckled a little at the off-handed compliment and looked down and to his left at the two little mice that seemed to be staring at the two of them warily.
"I feed them and give them water, but they still seem afraid. I can't blame them- we are quite a bit bigger than they are, after all. This is about as close as they usually get- but they must trust you to get this close with a stranger about."
The brave, younger grey mouse scampers down his robes to his knee and wiggles his tail a bit as his nose twitches. Tiny as he is, he still seems to debating whether or not to jump the gap between Muris and Aesculus.

Shiaree Smiling widely, she held out a hand to the little gray mouse, so that he could step onto it and from there climb onto her if that's what he wanted, "You're probably right. Poor things. They're not really used to having people around, huh? Since nobody's lived here for very long, or anything." Aesculus was really smart...and nice. Muris definitely hoped they could be friends. And he did seem to like mice, so maybe that was a good sign. "..are the other Fey as nice as you?" She'd met a couple of the others. Alces had seemed pretty nice, too, and Lilium and Equus weren't bad, but they were kind of intimidating, too.

"As nice as me? I would venture to say they are much nicer than I am, with the exception of Rosa, who you have met. The king and I grew up together, and Filix, Rosa's sister, used to climb trees with us. I assure you she is nothing like her sister. Alces is the king's cousin and I daresay he is the most friendly man I have met. I have not talked to the queen and Equus as much, but they both seem to be genuinely kind."
The mouse scampered onto her hand and then did a flying leap onto her lap. Skittering over to the furry lining of her tunic, he seemed intrigued as he pawed at it, sniffing with whiskers twitching every which way.

Shiaree She couldn't help but giggle as the mouse sniffed around her tunic, and gently stretched out one finger to stroke it's head a bit, "It's furry just like you!" she told him, smiling and straightening the tunic a bit so that the mouse could investigate it better. She then redirected her attention to Aesculus again, "Yeah..Alces seemed pretty nice. But I don't know that much about the others. Miss Lilium seemed like she had a lot on her mind, though..you'n Alces are the only ones who've really tried to make friends with me." She blushed a little bit, realizing maybe she'd said a little bit too much since he -was- friends with all these people. She didn't want to seem ungrateful or unfriendly or anything, "I mean..I'm sure I'll get to know the others in time. But I just wanted to say thanks for being so nice to me..'n all.."

"You need not thank me, Groom Muris." He regards her with her title, saying it as if it were any other sort of noble title. If anything, it is said more with respect than contempt as she would probably suspect.
"I have noticed, too, that Filix and Equus seem preoccupied with something as well as Lilium, although I am quite sure by their dispositions they are different matters." He pauses then, as if in thought. "I am sure that once you are around them more you will find them even more pleasant than I."
It isn't that Aesculus finds himself unpleasant but that he is modest, and does not think that his rather serious, distant attitude at times, as well as his verbose, cryptic manner is altogether friendly.
As he talks the mouse tries to bury itself in the furry lining, as if he's trying to hide, although he fails miserably. Both his ears and tail stick out as he tries to burrow a hole in the fur of the robe.

Shiaree "Don't be silly, you don't have to call me by my full title," although the respect he'd said it with left her blushing a little bit more, "Muri's fine. That's what everybody called me back before..everything happened." She fidgeted with the horseshoe necklace around her neck for a second, then giggled as the mouse attempted to bury itself in her tunic, "Silly. It's a good thing you can't do that or I'd be running about with a hole in my clothes!" She strokes it for a second, and then regards Aesculus seriously, "I dunno. I think you're lots of fun to hang around, even if you don't run around climbing trees much 'n stuff. You're a lot like my ma..mother was-- she was always using big words." And as much as she admired her father, her mother still held a special place for her too. Afterall, she was the one who'd put little Muri to sleep telling her grand tales of knights on white horses rescuing little damsels in distress.

He pauses then, considering it an honor to be compared to Muris's mother, who she held so dearly. While he had a response in mind, he takes his time mulling over his words so as to make them more direct and sincere as he speaks.
"I used to climb trees and follow the king as he unwisely seemed to seek out trouble... but my playmates have since grown older than me, and I no longer have parents to care for me. True, I have a Kithain, but she is nowhere near the same as my parents were." A touch of sadness is in his voice, despite his best attempts to hide it. He is not ashamed of being sad, but does not wish to make Muris sad with his thoughts.
"Besides... I ought to devote time to my learning so that I may be as good of an advisor for my dear friend as my father was for his father... much like you, I am sure, want only to honor your father by following in his footsteps in the best way you are able."
