PART 2 :: BEGINNING :: FUTE X PHIB Heavy breaths heaved in and out as the male trampled further into the forest as fast as his legs could carry him. His enemies were hot on his trail, and yet he couldn't see who they were. Nor could he even so much as make out their shadowy figures. "We will catch you. We will catch up! We will catch up!" Voices taunted him from afar as the landscape grew odd in shape and almost began to move. Or perhaps it was his eyesight simply going bad. Nothing was known for sure. Finally he came to a cliff but then realized that his journey would stop there. Either they'd catch up with him and destroy him brutally, or he'd have to fall off the edge. He was stuck, and nomatter what, seemingly doomed.
As the figures approached him he slid back as far as he could without going over the edge, teeth baring and growling and snarling at em' all. Then his eyes grew wide as one by one, they started to form into the very friends of his he'd come to know and love. "I..what the...stop it, friends!" A sudden outburst exclaimed from his maw. No longer had he uttered forth the yell than did they vanish into thin air, only seconds before clashing with his body. It was at that minute that another, mysterious voice came into play. "You must go to the east, go to the west, the journey is hard and the road is far. It's a dangerous tale, a difficult quest, unless you want to know... Unless you want to know..." A melodic tune accompanied its gentle story, and Fute was growing more and more confused by the second. "Unless I want to know what?" he questioned, thinking this was purely all too strange for words. "Unless you want to know.... who you reaaalllly arreee..." Who he really was? He knew who he was. He was Fute! How the heck was it someone's place to tell him he'd want to know who he was, when he already did!
The rock formation he'd not dared to jump from began to crumble beneath his feet, and within another second he was tumbling from off its edge and clear down towards the bototm. "Ahhhhhhhh!" His faded scream gave weigh to shot open eyes. He awoke in cold sweats and heavy panting following alongside it. "What on earth!" That was certainly one of the most irrational and strangest dreams he'd ever had occur for himself. He rose to all fours and shook himself off, trying to shake the thought of what had just happened along with it. "Hrm..." A lot of ill matters had risen within the past few days, and many odd occurances appeared to be looming in his general direction. He couldn't help but wonder and be terribly distraught over it all. Maybe seeking advice from others would be a good idea, but neither Whisper or Rochir had been the ones for the job, as his feelings had been guiding him into believing.
His tail flickered gently as his head turned about, surveying the landscape for a moment. It was then that it hit him. CLIFF! THE CLIFF! Yes, the cliff was the very last place he was next to. Neither of his friends were around anymore, but the tall grasses remained clear. The valley just beyond it all remained shining and glorius. And then a thought came to him... Perhaps.... perhaps I'm supposed to follow the valley down below... A paw swipe to the dirt revealed his frustration in decision making. Yet if he was to go, he was to go now, and he knew it. Somehow, he just felt it! And then, without warning, another heat-intensified paw emission lept through his veins and came out with a bang. He jumped back quickly and waited for it to subside. "Why does this keep happening?" Sighing, he took a step forward and gave a stern look to the horizon. "Now I know this is what I have to do."

Fate was using him again. But he did not know it, and he probably never would. Perhaps he was her favorite play thing. There were times in the silence where he would see the constant ironies of his life- things far too coincidental to not be somehow planned. So much to happen to one wolf. But maybe life itself was like that. Perhaps it was not just him who Fate liked to play with. Life was such a rugged road... and ironically, it was much like the one he was presently crossing.
A trip to the lowlands had kept him busy with most of these past two days. It was a brief leave of absence from his lands, but he felt it necessary in order to survey some of the goings on down in places where his influence did not reach. He was always on the lookout, and his mind never settled. Perhaps it was equally ironic that a wolf like himself should wonder why Fate involved him in things, when all he did was search for them.
The road up the side of the valley was steep, and had he not had previous experience climbing, it might have been more difficult. It was still somewhat vexing- he imagined going down would be a bit more of an ease, so long as one did not loose their footing in the stone. Slowly forward, moving- his mind set on slowly pondering things known only to himself.
The rocks themselves were thickened with heat. It was not so much that it was a hot day- but the constant exposure to the horizon had made it so. And passing, it almost seemed as though they might have been alive. But the path was not so harsh the entire journey- for it eventually forked into a sloping climb, and before the hour was passed the long black wolf pulled himself onto level earth, and peered back down at the valley. He had learned a bit- but mostly, it was unimportant. But he liked it that way. Unimportant things were good things in his book.
A noise in the distance detracted his attention, and at once the male turned his head, his ears straightening and pale eyes burning forward. More souls in the wood... but what happened without his knowledge?

A cooling sensation swept through his body and past his fur as a soft breeze continued to blow towards the direction of the valley beyond him. The distance of things seemed pretty far, and for one not to know where they were to be going, it was peculiar even moreso that he'd believe this was what he was supposed to do. Then again, that nagging feeling inside of him, the heat occurances, the recent outbursts of emotions....everything seemed to complete the puzzle and depict his set destiny. Destiny, fate, what was all this nonsense? Some things were better left unexplained, and so he let out another sigh.
A final quick limber of his body gave way to his urging forward, slowly making his way in a parallel direction alongside the cliff's edge until coming to a halt in front of the narrow and steep path that stood before him. The sun's glare made it difficult to see in the heat of the day, meaning it would put a strain on him to see whilst escalating downward. His journey would be slowed, and something told him he didn't have that much time. "There must be a better way..." Logic had apparently found no place to dwell in his recent circumstances, and the ill-natured sense of things hadn't stopped there. "Meh." He wasn't satisfied after many minutes of searching about and finding no other way down. One must do what one must do... Slowly but surely, a pawstep, and then another, and another, made its way onto the fragile rocks, being careful not to place so much as a single atom on the wrong locations. One could easily fall and get hurt at such a height and angle!
After many long strides of time and through a whole lot of determination, the gamma finally reached the half-way mark down the valley. The heat no longer bothered him, but for reasons he simply couldn't place. Perhaps the direction of the light had gone off him somewhat. Either way, it was good to be able to see well once more, and he was ecstatic that he hadn't managed to tumble to turmoil just yet. "Steady...steady fella..." He reassured himself that he could make the trip. A faint scent was coming from far off, but he couldn't place it, and didn't have time to worry about it right now. His focus and concentration was entirely on travessing down the thin slope of rock and making his way through the valley. The water sufficed, meanwhile, for a beautiful view, nomatter.

The black wolf panted, and raised his paw to carefully pick out some small pieces of dusty stone which had gotten lodged between his toes. It was terribly untasteful, and the dust bit with a level of bitterness that caused Phib to bristle somewhat as he cleaned. But at least that half of the trip was over. Stoically he swallowed and blinked, peering about the rocky cliff face and the small portions of grass and trees which clung steadfast to life in the rough terrain. Once he was over this, it would only be a bit more south until he returned to his lands- and he doubted it would take more then a night.
But although he was in exceptional shape for a wolf, his muscles still burned. It was time to be taking some rest from his climbing- after all, he'd have to do this on the way down as well. But the ledge, although sparsely clotted with tiny bushes, did not seem to offer much shade for which the black wolf could rest in. It would do for the time, but he doubted he would ever get much sleep with the sun burning at the inky blackness of his back. In the faint light he almost looked like tar- the black tips of his fur shined bright white and silver, almost giving him a haloy like appearance on one side of his shoulder.
He had only just about shut his eyes to rest when a pebble smacked him on the head. "Blah-" he muttered incomprehensibly and rubbed the top of his head. Another pebble smacked the earth beside him, prompting him to look upwards. Somewhere a bit more near the top, a wolf was climbing down. His coat seemed to almost blend in with the rocks, were it not for the brilliant black spots which littered his body. And although this was all fine and good, he still found the whole matter of this to be almost insane.
"What the hell-" Phib gaped, another pebble bonked on the end of his nose. This time he stood up and snorted, rubbing the end of his blunt snout. "Hey!" he called, his voice resounding somewhat off the rocky ledges. "Don't fall off now-"

Fute was getting so close to the water area that some of it had begun to splatter over onto him, dousing his fur with droplets here and there. The sensation wasn't pleasant, and wasn't one he was oh too fond of. Unlike swimming, these drops stung because of the force they splashed about with. He tried to ignore it and kept on trekking. Pretty soon you'll be down there, on safe, dry land. His positive thought track and abundance of energy kept him from hurling off the landscape's edge and potentially crushing every bone in his body. There was no doubt about it that he felt more confident than he ever had recently.
The strange scent from far off grew stronger and stronger, until finally a voice called out. "Hey! Don't fall off now" His mind replayed the sequence, and finally figured it to sound more concerned than joking. Despite this, if he looked down now to reveal said wolf, whoever he was..., the gamma would surely lose his balance and fall off. "Oh, I won't!" he called down, making sure not to sway his attention from off the cliffside. Any wrong movement would turn out with a full-blast negative effect. There was no place for a mistake. "Just, gotta, get down this" His final utterances came forth with a hesitation between each word, and strongly, until on the last note, he jumped off the edge and flung himself towards the water. SPLASH! A few seconds later he just barely managed to reach it and fall under its crystal clear top.
Another few seconds and he'd managed to come back up for some air. He gasped a little and spit out the excess water from his mouth, climbing out of the watery depths and shaking his body off to clear his now soaking wet fur somewhat. It was then that the other male caught his eye, and what a sight for sore eyes he was. He'd met this one before. Very dark wolf. Very...unique. Trying to decypher his name from the corner of his memories, one would only see him as blank for a moment, until at once he snapped back into reality. "Phib, right?" he questioned calmly, vacating his ears of the rest of the waterlogged nonsense.

As soon as the male had calmed himself down and released his body of the water minerals it held, he responded to the darker one. "Fute, yes." It was uncanny how he'd remembered his name like that as well. A small chuckle came from his maw as Phib questioned his actions. "I suppose you could say it's a bit of both situations." This meeting would either be a good thing, or a bad thing. Something told him to continue going on. Perhaps he could invite the male along? Either way, no decisions just yet. He'd wait a few minutes and see how things went...

"Situations?" The male spoke, his voice affably low, but still carrying the steady air of diplomacy. "What kinds of situations have arisen for rock climbing?" A grin now, but fell across the large wolf's face, although he could not help but be amused. Still wet and no doubt tired from his traveling, Fute still looked determinded to continue on. That alone was intriguing to him, and he found himself intently focusing his pale eyes upon the frame of the other male.
Although he had to think on it a moment, Phib decided that Fute did look somewhat different since the last time he saw him. He had not had the glint of purpose in his eyes, Phib imagined, and he had almost seemed haggard. There was still uncertainty in him now, but he did look good. Better then he had the last time, which unknowing to him, had been shortly after his breakoff with Whisper.

Phib seemed to always carry this air of intelligence and higher knowing. Or anyhow, was the circumstance that Fute had come to believe, through their few short meetings. It didn't take long, but he finally snapped back into reality. It seemed he was now stumped. How would he explain a situation like this one? He'd sound downright crazy. Off his rocker. Insane. Ready to say he'd flown over the coocoo's nest. Pffft. Words escaped him, and so he moved away from the subject. "So where's that other lovely lady that hung by your side at our last encounter?" His tone was full of joking curiosity, and for a moment he circled the male, for no reason in particular. It was just something he felt like doing. Meanwhile he was having a glance out towards the horizon, his every muscle beckoning forward towards it, but only his heart and mind stopping him. Daring to adventure off now may leave out something important. Those were the words that captivated his thoughts, and pulled him back. He didn't even know where he was headed, besides..

A fun-natured expression creeped across his maw at the mention of not one but rather two females who had been alongside Phib at the time of their last gathering. He meant Amelie, of course, and figured it was apparent, the way the ebony one continued on. "Ahh. I see." There wasn't much else one could really offer to the conversation now. At least, not off the top of his head. Instead, he merely went on with his circling. In one way, he wanted Ame to come around. She had been uberly nice to him. He liked nice wolves. A paw swipe batted playfully to the other male. There was a little talk now, but in a split second he'd gathered the mood of a cheerful manner of playing. Maybe a little rough-housing would take his mind off of wanting to wander around. "You think she might come around anytime soon?" Without thinking about it, his thoughts escaped from his maw as he pounced the other.

It seemed that the blatantly darker one was clearly uninterested in gaming escapades. This made Fute slightly unhappy, but all the same, it was understandable, and he respected a serious wolf; so he stopped. There was, however, a small smile on the other's face, so obviously things were taken alright. This at the very least allowed the spotted male to remain comfortable about things, and keep from frowning, for that matter. Did he want to see her? He really didn't know. Perhaps he could use a female's opinion on a few things, yes. It had appeared as though femmes knew quite a bit about things. They had that 'female's intuition' thing going on. He chuckled at the thought, and, realizing that Amelie was the only other adult female to come to mind that he'd run into, aside from Whisp that is, he nodded. "I actually think talking to her again would be nice. She seemed very kind." He wasn't going to let Phib know his true intentions. He may not understand anyways. Again, he figured he'd sound crazy to someone like Phib. Might as well confront a woman wolf with the matter.

He sat and thought, but it didn't take another minute or two for him to nod in response once more. "Yes, please and thanks. That'd be great." His words trailed as he limbered up and prepared for the journey. He'd follow him back to where they stayed, meet up with Ame, and then see about discussing things in private with her. Yes. Sounded like a magnificent idea. And without another word, he was off behind the dark one.
