I got all four Alanna books for Christmas last year and read them all at once. They were really good!

I have most of her books and I've read them all so many times that some are beginning to fall apart. But the twists and turns still surprise me, and I still love them. (I'm rereading Terrier as we speak...er, write.)

She's one of my favorite authors. I have to say I liked the tortall series better than the circle of magic books, though I couldn't say why. Her newest book, "Terrier", is brilliant.

I like her books and Will Of The Empress was amazing. I read her Immortals series and that was pretty good too. I think I started on the Tortall series but stopped because I had too much work/other books to read. sweatdrop

Ethan Irkel Yeager *SPOILER WARNING***'WILL OF THE EMPRESS'*Just a question. My sister got a little suspicious of this after reading 'Will of the Empress'. Did Briar suggest that Lark and Rosethorn are lesbian? If so, does that mean that dedicates are allowed to have affairs? But if they're completely dedicated to the gods, aren't they not allowed to marry? But then why would they be allowed to have affairs? Okay, maybe my mind is getting carried away. I had always thought they were just good friends. But it's kind of suspicious how Lark sometimes refers to Rosethorn as "Love". I believe she also called her "Rosey" once . . . PLEASE respond . . . I'm sooo confused right now! gonk Jhesy This confused me too, because they'd all hinted that they'd known about Lark and Rosethorn, and I'm thinking "Was there some subtext I didn't see here?" Daja also hinted that Rosethorn was bisexual. Yes. Lark is bi and and Rosethorn is gay. Tammy posted this on her site a while ago. You can also see it here and any other major questions you have. This is part of a forem that Tammy and Meg Cabot started. It's gotten so big they've relinquest ownership of it, but if your a fan, you'll thrive there. I own every book Tammy has ever published and I'm working on getting the books that have her short stories in them also. I like her Tortall books only slightly more then her Emelan books. I REALLY liked Terrier!!

The first series I read from Tamara Pierce was Protector of the Small. It was captivating to me because of the main character's moral fiber. I also enjoyed the circle of magic books.

Question for Circle of Magic readers:
I've giving my husband Melting Stones for Christmas. It's only available as an audiobook right now, so I can't read it before he hears it. Do we have to know what happened in The Will of the Empress to enjoy it? I'm having a hard time getting hold of the The Will of the Empress in audio format (not many libraries own it), but I can read it and summarize to my husband if necessary.

I love Tamora pierce and as a matter of fact am reading one of her books right now. I think that her better series was the Tortall series because to me it is easier to get into them that the Circle of Magic

You know... I've never read any of her books, not to mention I had no idea who she was before I joined this guild. Now, it seems that every book store I go, her titles just pop out at me.. almost mockingly. I'm torn on whether I should purchase a book written by her. If I do, what would be a good "first impression" book for me to read?

Try either Sandry's Book, which is the first in the Circle of Magic world, or Alanna : The First Adventure, which begins the books set in Tortall.

i_love_nutmeg I think that it makes sense. My favorite Tamora Pierce book is Terrier, the new one. You mean the series, Beka Cooper, or the first in the series, Terrier, or the latest (second) in the series, Bloodhound?

I've read all of Tamora Pierce's books now, except for Melting Stones and Bloodhound. They have Melting Stones in my library and I intend to check it out very soon, but for the moment I'm sort of stuck uptown and can't get there often. I bought Bloodhound, but for some reason I'm having a hard time getting into it - not at all like I did with Terrier. Perhaps it's just because I have so many other books I'm reading at the same time, and some of them require my full attention.
Personally, I preferred Circle of Magic to the Tortall books. Don't shoot me. They were the first of her books I read, and I'm a big fan of Tris.
