The clouds above Kamiss' head suddenly thinned and turned black. He spun towards the direction the clouds were pointing. "Somethings coming." He whispered. His hand snapped up, unsheathing his sword and readied it in the blink of an eye. "I guess its time to fight."

"Oh, lovely..." She whispered, taking a stronger hold on her spear. Her eyes lingered apprehensively on the clouds above them, and she strained to hear some sign of attack.

Kamiss's eyes sparked black for a second before returning to normal. "They will be here in two minutes. They are about a mile ahead. They don't know exactly where we are, only our gneral direction. If we hide we could ambush them."

Lyra nodded quickly, casting an uncertain glance his way. How did he know that? "Where would you suggest? Some of the houses still have most of their foundations - we should be able to find somewhere sheltered."

"I'll hide on a roof. You should hide behind a house. If anything comes by, stab it." When she looked away, he shook his head. Where the hell'd that all come from?"

Nodding again, in affirmation, Lyra peered around at the rubble surrounding her. Off to her left, all the remained was stones. but to her right she found a house almost fully intact, with only a gaping hole in the southern wall. She crept inside, then settled on a room with a dorr facing the way Kamiss had faced. She propped the door open with a mirror, so she could see without being seen, and sat with her back against the wall.

A small thundering began to be heard as a long line of green-black creatures began marching up the hill. ORCS? Kamiss thought. He looked at Lyra and nodded. As they came under the house he was on he gave a wild yell and jumped off, sword swinging.

Kamiss A small thundering began to be heard as a long line of green-black creatures began marching up the hill. ORCS? Kamiss thought. He looked at Lyra and nodded. As they came under the house he was on he gave a wild yell and jumped off, sword swinging. With Kamiss's yell, Lyra whirled through the door, slashing and twirling with her staff. How do I know how to fight? I've never fought! This is so strange... The first creature to reach her (ha, sorry, just have to say that's funny, it rhymes...) she pierced through, jerking her staff back violently. She shuddered at the thought of killing, but kept on the offensive.

Kamiss swung through an orc, and as he did, his mind flew back. He had done this before.. outside... a broken hibernation tank? He shuddered, shook the memory away, and threw himself back into the fray(hey, that rhymes too!). "What the hell was that?" He muttered.

After a while, the stream of fowl creatures tapered off, but Lyra could see more close at hand. She gazed down at the carcasses lining the floor with tears in her eyes, not for the dead beasts, but for the world that she had awakened in.

An orc stumbled, bleeding profusely from a gash in it's side. Kamiss threw his hand into it's chest, knocking it to the ground. With a wild yell, full of anger, Kamiss drove his sword into its stomach. It gasped, coughing up blood. Lifting it with his blade, he threw the dying creature to the nearest wall and threw his blade after it. It stayed there, shuddering, untill it fell limp over the blade. Tears streaking down his face, Kamiss gave up a wild yell to the heavens.

(Ew and Aw at the same time, Kamiss. you're getting really good at this, you know. ^_^)
Lyra heard her new partners cry, and her heart echoed it. But before she could react, another wave of monsters was upon her. She stood her ground, casting aside the dead in rapid succesion. What the hell are they, and where are they coming from?
She was panting now, almost out of energy. Her heart rate quickened as she entertained the thought that this onslaught might not end, that she might die of exhaustion before the creatures stopped pouring in from the barren landscape around her. She whippeed sweat from her eyes, and started forward in grim determination, forcing her way through the ranks of the acrid-smelling monsters.

Cocoon... tank.... sword? Explosion.... These words flashed through his head as Kamiss jumped high into the air, higher than he should have been able to. Holding his sword in two hands, the blade was covered in what looked like black webbing and he seemed to rip it into two perfect smaller blades. He landed with barely a sound, dust rising around him. His eyes flashed angrily as he spun in a circle, dual swords cutting through any within a four foot radius of him.

Lyra was sagging. Slowing. Her energy was gone. She slumped to the floor, ready to give up. One of the devilish creatured leered over her, drooling and ready to kill. As her eyes fluttered closed, she saw the shining stone in her spear glow a blinding blue. Then she felt herself lifted from the floor, and found herslef standing, no longer at all weakened. She was ready to fight again. The drooling creature in front of her started backwards, only to find a sharp sprea through one of his grim black eyes. The rest of the monsters retreated, and Lyra rushed from her hiding place. She saw Kamiss, the other guardian, swirling in a tornado of blood and gore, twin swords flashing in the failing sunlight. She dashed behind a rock near him, ready to help, though it didn't seem he needed it.

Kamiss slashed to the right of him, then stabbed his other sword behind him to impale an orc. He swung it around into a group of the beasts, in the same motion raising both his blades over his head. They became one again and he brought it down with a yell, bursting the skull of the orc in front of him and the next two behind that. He spun, and suddenly he was on the defensive as two huge orcs-one with saber, the other with cleaver-batted at him mercilessly. He felt his sword leave his hand and twisted his body back to recieve the flat of the cleaver instead of the blade. Kamiss rolled backwards with the momentum to escape their swinging range, but he crashed into the wall behind him. The saber orc grinned down at him, reached up, and brought his sword down. Kamiss lifted his arm and was instantly showered in blood as his own blade returned to his hand through the attacking orc. Kamiss grinned, and the cleaver orc swung at him, roaring angrily. Kamiss easily batted the blade aside, slashed the orc from left thigh to right shoulder, quickly retreived his balde, stabbed it through the stomach, and beheaded it, escaping before the blood could even fountain.
