Halia sighed and closed her eyes as she leaned her head back. "I know. I'll ....get there eventually. Right now, I'm doing okay. More or less. It was just a lot all at once. And at least the nightmares have been less awful. I'm probably just getting used to them at this point, but still. I'll be okay."

Falling silent as she listened to him, she frowned. How had no one told her about any of this? How bad she never been told about a literal magic barrier that was supposed to protect them? She would try and reach out to her family later and ask what they knew. "A magical protective barrier...." Right. That's where she heard it before. "Queen Serenity mentioned it at the Moon Palace I think. That the Surrounding had fallen. I'll see if Encke or anyone might know anything about it, and if there's any way to repair it." She pulled her phone out and typed a note to remind herself later. "I've been a senshi for a year and never heard anything of it, so maybe it hasn't been worked towards because it's a lack of knowledge?" Grieve might also know, she reasoned. Deep space senshi were older than she could imagine, so if Encke didn't know, chances were that the scary yellow alien might. "I'll also see if I can get in contact with a deep space senshi I know." Though she knew it was likely a bad, horrible, awful idea, she continued with "If Grieve is amenable to meeting and talking about it, would you like to be there? I mean, have you met her before?"

Mason nodded. "That's where I first heard it. In your memory," he said with a sheepish grin. "And then I asked some other people about it and..." Mason shrugged. "I guess there are Senshi of--Viatrix, the Mauvian I've been talking to, said there's Senshi of the Zodiac," he said, "and they're connected to the Surrounding too. Have you ever heard of a Sailor Leo, or Pisces, or Libra? That's my Zodiac sign," he added with a bemused smile. "I wonder if Sailor Libra's cool. Anyway--they have, or had, a Princess, called Chronos? Of the...the..." Mason paused, nose wrinkling in concentration as he tried to remember the word. "Not equality, but--it sounded like it? I don't remember. Anyway, there are Chronos Knights, which is possibly the coolest-sounding name ever, and I've been talking to one, she seems really nice," Mason paused, realized he was babbling, and flashed a sheepish smile.

"Sorry. It's just - I'm learning so much everything all the time," he said, shaking his head. At her question, his smile faded slightly.

"No, I haven't met her yet," he said, slowly, "and it--didn't you tell me she's like--scary? Albite described her as a 'banana with horns'."

"Mason, you're fine. I never mind listening to you." She gave him a warm smile and lightly bumped her shoulder against his. "No, I haven't met any of them. Maybe I should meet Viatrix at some point. If she's my cousin's mauvian, I should meet her anyway just on principle shouldn't I?"

Chronos knights. That did sound quite intriguing. To her knowledge, she had never met one, but then again, she didn't really know many people to begin with. "Equilibrium?" She offered the word as a suggestion, taking a guess. "Would you believe me if I said I'm learning too, just like you are? I feel like there's just so much to all of this that it's impossible for one person to know everything there is. And we're always gaining new information too, both from Deep Space Senshi and from our memories and planets and wonders."

Halia sighed and rubbed her face as she thought how best to describe Grieve. "Grieve is.....intense. Not necessarily scary, just very....a lot. If that makes sense? She's a warrior, more or less. Her immediate solution to chaos is to kill them. My first ever experience with her was at a meeting Celadon held, and she endorsed just killing on sight. My second, and first actual interaction, was stumbling across her standing over a dead Negaverse Agent and being roped into helping her dump his body on her planet. Her convictions are deeply rooted in her, I think, but.....Aurelia liked her. I've seen glimpses of her in the memories I've had. Aurelia would scold her here and there for being loud, but she always enjoyed seeing her. And I suppose Albite isn't entirely wrong? She's got yellow skin, blue hair, and horns." Carefully, Halia removed the locket she now wore at all times, flipping the clear lid open to show a brief glimpse of the aforementioned alien woman from the time she had been kidnapped off planet to assist in the body dump. "She's....a lot, and I used to be terrified of her. But...I have a new threshold of what the bench ark for terrifying is, and it decidedly isn't Grieve."

"'A lot' can mean a lot of different things," Mason said dubiously, as a self-described 'a lot' himself. Then again, Grieve was on the list of people Halle had given him, and Halle had told him to connect with as many deep space Senshi as he could. He peered curiously at the memory, noting with amusement that...yeah, okay, he could see the banana reference.

"But I guess there's nothing wrong with intense," he said, with a one-shouldered shrug. "So...sure. I'd like to meet her, if only to meet the person behind all the talk," he said with a soft chuckle. "I haven't met-met Viatrix, just messaged her, but she's--great. She's making apps," he added, his enthusiasm gaining speed again. "Like, for Senshi phones or Knight rings or whatever? To make it so we can actually, like, communicate with each other in a way that's modern and makes sense? I dunno why the space cats are also IT computer programmers, but I'm excited about it for her. I told her I'd be her hype guy," he added by way of explanation, "so whenever she comes out with the app officially, you gotta get it, so I can say I got at least one other person into it, 'kay?"

"A lot as in intense, pro murder, and kidnapping blissfully murder free senshi off planet for a body dump. Still makes my skin crawl to think about it honestly." She shuddered before relaxing beside him again. "But...yeah, deep space senshi are....they're good people to talk to. I should introduce you to Chang'E as well at some point. He's sweet and his magic is sort of a buff for those around him. I think you'd get along together probably." She smiled as she thought of the serpentine senshi, hoping he was doing well.

Laughing softly, she nodded. "I can agree to that. Both because she's my cousin's mauvian and because you asked me to." There was little she would not do if Mason asked her, and she was well aware of it. "Just tell me the what and the when, and consider it done." Her shoulder bumped lightly against his again and she smiled warmly at him.

"All of my own stuff aside, has there been anything new with you?" She realized, belatedly, that she had been dominating the subject of the entire conversation.

"Please, introduce me to everybody," he said, bumping her shoulder in gentle response. "If I had anybody other than my sister to introduce you to, I'd return the favor," he said with a chuckle, shaking his head.

When conversation turned to Mason's own life, he shrugged. "It's been fine," he said, fidgeting a bit with his Knight ring, which he always wore, even though it was glamored when he wasn't Blarneyed up. "Mads is getting really excited for DCU and I'm.....also....going to DCU...." he said, a weak laugh not doing much to cover the utter lack of excitement in his voice. "It's gonna be so weird. How do you like, care about college when you know about the giant space cauldron and the hologramic moon queen and stuff?" Mason didn't know, and he shook his head. He hadn't found even the tiniest spark to make college sound like anything other than a slog at best.

And then there was the Khaz of it all. Khaz who was still in high school. Khaz who didn't yet know about Mason's 'extracurricular activities'. Khaz who was so sweet, and so shy, and so - confusing, sometimes.

Mason's fidgting increased in tempo. He gave Halia a bright smile, hoping to distract both her and himself from that particular line of thought.

"But it'll be fine, I'm sure. We're still living at home, so it's not like it'll be some huge adjustment or anything. Just - like, high school, but with more obnoxious homework, a better schedule and the ability to go to the bathroom without a hallpass."

"I promise to introduce you to anyone I can. But you already seem to know quite a few people that I don't, so maybe you should make those introductions too." She marveled at him, really, with how fast he integrated himself into it all. She wished that she had had more drive after awakening, that she didn't just stop and find herself content with the little group she now no longer seemed to have. She wanted to make up for that, somehow, and have as many connections as possible.

"DCU? That sounds exciting. Eeeexcept you don't sound excited at all." She leaned against him more. "Think of it as a way to help you learn how to help maybe? But also don't put too much pressure on yourself."

The fidgeting intensified and Halia reached over, gently placing her hand over his. "Wanna tell me what's really bothering you?" Mason was so easy to read sometimes. So like herself at times with deflection and trying to smile all the time. "I promise I'll listen. I'm good at that."

Mason wrinkled his nose - help you learn how to help. He was already doing that, and he was pretty sure that no mortal human college had demon snake classes, outside of the mythology department anyway.

Automatically, he let his arm fall loosely around Halia's shoulders, even as he continued to fidget with his other hand.

"It's not--I mean, it's not bothering me, exactly," Mason said, reluctantly, and mostly addressing the ceiling. "It's just--like, I mean--" Mason trailed off for a few moments, then let out a grudging sigh. Madeline didn't really want to talk about his dating problems, either, and Halia was asking, and he clearly didn't know what to do about them himself, so...

Both Halle and Miss Joy had told him to let people help him, or words to that effect. Did that count for this stuff too? He had to wonder.

"How do you know when someone likes you? Like, like-likes you," he said, hating how it made him sound like a fourth grader. "'Cause, like, I'm dating--" he caught himself before he said Khaz's name, and hated that he had to. "--someone, and like, every time I think they're into me like I'm into them, they kind of..." Mason shrugged. "Pull away, I guess? Or like, get weird and tense. I dunno. And I'm like, do I smell? Is it something I said?" Mason sighed. "It's so dumb to worry about this when there's, like, energy vampires running around and space snakes out there somewhere," he said, feeling worse the more he spoke. "I dunno. Never mind. Don't worry about it, it's fine. It's probably just me being oversensitive or something." Absently, he squeezed her in a one-armed hug. "Thanks for asking, though. Really," he said, looking at her for the first time since his stuttering admission. "I'm really glad we're friends, Hals."

Oh. That was not the direction she anticipated this going. "I am....not a good person to ask that. I've never....." She trailed off, trying to find a way to say it without sounding pathetic. "I have no experience in that department. On either end. Liking and being liked....I mean, I know what I've read in novels, but novels aren't often like real life, are they?"

As he spoke of the person he was seeing, she frowned more. "Mason, you're allowed to have normal worries. We might be magical and stuff, but we're still people. And being a person comes with a lot of complex emotions and feelings. Bottling it up and dismissing it and telling yourself it's dumb isn't good for you. Believe me." She sighed softly, though she was acutely aware of his arm around her. "Maybe he likes you but is worried about being out? I....have even less knowledge about that than about emotions in general though." The one friend she would have directed him to was no longer an option, and while it saddened her, it made her feel even worse for Mason. "And for the record, you don't smell bad. I think....I think maybe talking to him about it might be good? Sit him down and have a face to face conversation, tell him how it makes you feel." Her hand absently covered his again, her thumb tracing over his ring. "That's something relationships and friendships have in common, right? Needing communication, I mean.

The nickname made her cheeks feel warm and she smiled at him. "You know you're the only person in the world who calls me that?" The first time, it had caught her off guard. But the more he used it, the more she found she loved the nickname. Her grandfather called her Lia, and she occasionally was called Hali, but Hals was something uniquely Mason.

Mason stilled as her hand found his, and he glanced down at her, a little smile on his face. "Yeah?" he said, momentarily distracted from his entirely too human woes. "I can stop, if it bothers you." Probably. He'd never tried to stop calling someone a name before, because he'd never had a close enough friend other than his sister to even give a nickname to.

"But...yeah, I know, I know, talk to him, I know," Mason said with a sigh, the smile fading from his face as he looked back up at the ceiling. "But--like, how do you even--I mean, I don't have any experience with this either, and I don't think he does either, so it's like--how do you casually go 'hey, quick question, are you worried that people will see you and think you're gay and that might be a problem?' without it being a whole--a whole thing? I don't want it to be a whole thing. I don't want anything to be a whole thing. I like him, and I just--I just want it to be easy, y'know? And if I talk about it, it's gonna make it--not easy," he finished, lamely, suddenly acutely aware that he was coming dangerously close to whining.

"And, like, if I'm doing college and--" he gestured expansively in front of them, "jumping around on rooftops fighting youma every other minute and trying to train and level up and everything, like--who even has the time for a big thing like that? I don't! There's only so many hours in the day."

"No, I like it." Her ears felt warm too now but she refused to think about it. Him calling her that made her happy, so why should she want him to stop.

She gently squeezed his hand and sighed softly. "Sometimes it gets to be a whole thing. Especially if you care about the person. You could also say it exactly like that?" She squeezed his hand again, wishing she could somehow make it easier. "If it's something important to you, I'm sure you can make time." A thought struck her and she frowned. "Does he know? About you being Blarney?"

Mason shook his head slowly, his eyes dropping back to their hands as she gave his a little squeeze.

"No," he said, voice low, and sadder and more real than every rapid-fire question he'd ever shot at anyone since awakening. "He won't even hold my hand if there are people around. How can I tell him I'm a magic superhero?" He looked back at Halia and gave her a small, sad smile. "How do you know if the person you're into can be trusted with something like that? How do I even know he's not, like, secretly a Negaverse guy?" That would be just his luck, honestly. "He could be just - using me, waiting to figure out who I am before--bam. I don't get how anyone can do this and have a relationship, even though Viatrix says a lot of people in the magical community just sorta naturally pair up."

Mason sighed and shook his head. "I'm sorry, I didn't mean to bum you out."

Halia felt her heart ache. She might not have experience, but she could only imagine how horrible it felt. She squeezed his hand again before lifting it to examine it as if searching for something. "Hmmmm. Seems like a pretty good hand to me." Her fingers laced with his and she leaned against him, just wanting to give him comfort any way she could.

Her heart ached again as he spoke, hating that he felt like this. "Sometimes blind trust is needed. Taking a leap of faith. But it's also harder like this. I think....I think a lot of us that have partners in this most likely met while powered and revealed their civilian identity later. At least that's what would make the most sense. Then again, I also don't have really much knowledge behind that either. That would be more a question for my cousins." She sighed softly and rested her head on his shoulder. "I had a friend on this side that was deeply into a General King, y'know. Sometimes you can't help who you end up having feelings for. Even if it's literally the stupidest idea ever." She was unknowingly projecting, which later on would be hilarious in hindsight. But in that moment, she just wanted to do her best to comfort the boy beside her.

"You should introduce me. I want to meet him." She lifted her head to look up at him, giving him a tiny smile. "And maybe if I meet him, I can help you get a read on the situation? Sometimes a set of fresh eyes helps?"

Juliette06

A smile came to his face as she examined his hand, but as she continued to speak, Mason sighed. A fresh set of eyes was good for problems like - like math, or maybe art or writing or something, but he didn't know how much good someone else trying to meddle would do. Granted, his experience with meddling was entirely confined to his sister, who had never meddled to positive end in her entire life, but...still. He doubted it.

"Maybe," Mason said half-heartedly. "I don't even know if he wants--or, if, like, he can meet my friends. I haven't met any of his," he said, despondent once again. "I don't know, Hals. I'll figure it out. But...thanks. For listening." Mason said, glancing over to her and giving her another smile. "Really. It means a lot."
