The boy felt the heat rise to his cheeks. “Sorry,” he mumbled softly as he shrank back from his sister. Not that he was afraid of her lashing out at him. No. The threat of her disappointment was enough to make him retreat into himself.

DeeDee reached out to put her hand through one of the lingering lights. It was better to simply ignore her brother when he got like that. She gave him a moment to pull himself together while she tried to make the lights shine brighter. They flickered slightly, but not much else. She pursed her lips with discontent. “Not very good at this, yet.”

Ah, so that’s how it was. He harbored no ill feelings toward his sister when she got annoyed with him like this, but it always stung a little to see. As it was.. He couldn’t deny that he preferred this over any attempts to force his participation. He closed his eyes and took a few deep breaths. He should just go back to his book.
But DeeDee voiced some doubt, and he immediately turned his focus back to his big sister. “You will,” he assured again.

Honestly, DeeDee was surprised to hear her brother speak up again. She looked at him with a c**k of her head. He was a headache of a little brother, but he was willing to support her. After a moment, she grinned and straightened back up with pride. “Darn right I will!”

As the mood lifted, Gin Ae allowed himself a pleased giggle. He really loved seeing his family happy. Anyway, he couldn’t help wondering now. What if he also had magic? Would he be any good with it? Would.. Would DeeDee be as proud of him as he felt for her right then? He hadn’t sensed a thing from the pendant himself, but maybe when he was older!
