Her arms crossed and she drummed her fingers against her elbow. Did she have anything with seagulls? She might at that, though it wouldn’t be anything terribly old. In fact, hadn’t there been something in the boxes from the latest estate sale she’d visited?
“One moment,” she said, flashing a brief smile before darting into the back. She knew where the boxes in question were and though she hadn’t gone through them in depth, she vaguely remembered seeing seagulls. Pulling the boxes from the shelves, she went through the contents and began laughing. Well, she’d been right about seeing gulls, even if she hadn’t remembered the exact items.
Carrying the box out to the front, she set it down on the counter and waved Elaine over with a “I’m not sure if you’re going to want these or not.” before withdrawing a taxidermied California gull and a rather good wood carving of a flock of gulls in flight. She wasn’t an expert in either art, though she knew that both were fairly recent. And for what it was, the taxidermy seemed… competently done at least.
“You wanted seagulls, I got seagulls. But I can promise that this will probably be the first and last time I’m able to whip out any special requests.”
