Elaine was a woman with a certain gift for looking at men with a disgusted sense of disapproval. She was also, however, a woman with a gift for looking at men with genuine admiration when she had determined that they had earned it. She felt doubly secure dispensing this look of feminine commendation to Todd, who seemed like he probably wouldn't care about it even a tiny fraction as much as he had cared about thirty dollars, which as far as she was concerned was a rare and valuable trait in a man.
