Getting one of his arms around them to help support the other, he led them up the stairs and to the couch, going slow so Kioshi didn’t fall or get hurt. Reaching the top of the stairs, he hit the dimmer switch so the lights came on partially but not shockingly so. Bright enough not to trip but dim enough not to give them a headache.

Leaving the duffle bag in the hallways so it was closer to the bedroom and bathroom, he got them settled and pulled the blanket from the back of the couch, and draped it over them. “I’ll get the tea and rice started, maybe something on Netflix, your pick.” They had a decent variety of things they’d showed him so he was sure he’d be okay with what they might pick to watch.

A press of his lips to their temple and then he was busying himself getting things started in the kitchen. The kettle was the first thing he got started before washing the rice in a small bowl and putting it in the small rice cooker he had. It had been a small upgrade he’d done recently because his older crock pot-style cooker had finally reached the end of its life. It had stopped heating so he’d had to upgrade and decided on a Japanese brand, not completely because of Kioshi but he’d found the reviews and quality spoke for itself. It made a small sort of melody when starting and finishing cooking which was… quaint and appreciated because it alerted him in case he got too focused on his work or reading to notice the passage of time.

“I’ll have your tea first, but the rice will take about fifteen minutes.” Looking over his shoulder at them, making sure they were still alright on the couch, he still felt for them. It had to have been hard but it also wasn’t right to try and dump all those things on themself, it was like trying to repair the burnt bridges for someone else without all the facts. They only had half a story, the rest was lost so in his opinion it was a tragedy but it wasn’t their fault. He just had to figure out how best to help them through it, something he might have to ask his cousin about or…. Even Rene since the Frenchman seemed to have a bit more emotional intelligence even if he hated to admit that.

Leaning back into the couch cushions, the blanket was pulled further about himself, the dark haired male tilted his head and pressed his cheek into the soft fabric of the cushion. Turning at the press of lips to his temple, a simple gesture, and ghosted his fingers over the others cheek in return. A gentle touch that was so fleeting as Lorcan went off to the kitchen. “Same rice cooker.” Because he knew that sound, his made it also, he was surprised the other had a rice cooker and one which he considered proper.

“Tea would be great, can’t wait.” Because he wouldn’t mind getting the taste out of his mouth from before, in the parking garage, he didn’t like the taste but he’d been holding back and keeping together. He didn’t want to embarrass himself more…he didn’t want to be hunched over a toilet vomiting - he did that often enough. The slow movements were keeping his stomach from churning and the dim lights were perfect.

“Something not so serious…but not comedy.” He didn’t care for comedy, most of the jokes were too over the top or cliche - or both. He preferred serious things, or at least things which took some thought and were creative, but he was not feeling up for that right now. This was not a night to watch something like Repo, or anything else like that. Though perhaps it was a night to indulge in something else…something less serious but also creative? And also a little off the beaten path and yet somehow it fell onto the same path as other movies….and shows.

Moving slowly, picking up a bit of confidence in his movements, he managed to go for the tv remote and turn on the tv, and pull up Netflix. “Going to the bathroom…want bed clothing.” Because it would be more comfortable. He also was going to try not to trip, fall, and kill himself as he struggled to take a fast shower…however, he’d manage that he wasn’t sure. But he had a plan in mind and a shower, bedclothing, a blanket, and someone to cuddle with to watch Netflix with was that plan. He just needed to make it work and not die trying.

Laughing a bit as he spoke, he said, “I figured you might have the same one. The reviews looked decent, and it is just the right size for one or two people.” Any bigger, and it would take up too much counter space. That wasn’t something he wanted to miss out on, so he pulled the two cups down from the cabinet and made tea for Kioshi and himself.

“That sounds alright, something not too in-depth that you need to focus on but also not too mindless.” It would be something interesting and he knew there were a nearly endless amount of options on Netflix. He’d gotten ready to bring the cups over when he saw them stumbling and leaning as they walked.

“Okay, if you need to lean against the tile or hold on to the metal bit on the glass door for support you can. It’s sturdy enough for that and I’ll bring your bag to my room after I grab your bathroom stuff out of it.” Setting the cups on coasters, he picked the duffel bag up and navigated his way around them to set the plastic bag of shampoo, conditioner, soap, and the few other bottles he had grabbed from their bathroom on the sink.

Then he set the bag on the bed for them before pulling a towel down for them to use. “If you feel unsteady and need to sit you can, I’d rather clean up water than have you fall and have to clean up blood and bring you to the hospital for a concussion.” He’d showered before they’d called so he didn’t need another one, it meant he’d be able to help if they needed anything and make sure the food was ready by the time they were done.

“And you can leave rice in it till the next day so you can make proper fried rice.” Because that used day old rice to make, not something everyone did. But if Lorcan were the sort for such a dish that was the sort of rice it required.

“I’ll be sure to take it easy, I’d rather not make a trip to the hospital. I’m not a fan, too many sick people there.” He was well aware that was the point of hospitals but it didn’t mean he liked it. What he also meant was dying people and the old, the very old, he didn’t like seeing such things for numerous reasons including confronting his own mortality in a sense and knowing one day he’d be that old…and might be in the same shape as those people. Things he like to avoid thinking about for as long as possible.

Making it to the bathroom the process took time, more than it should, as he kept from landing himself in the hospital. But he did finally return to the living room washed up and dressed and ready to relax and try and deal with things like an adult…an adult who was still drunk and not at his best. Zeroing in on the tea he took his cup and sipped slowly. “Perfect.” The loose pants were well worn, and this soft, of a dark color that had likely been darker and closer to pitch black than it was now. The same could be said for the shirt, though he wore it less often he did wash it at the same time so everything wore equally. The color fading was not his favorite thing but it was inevitable with clothing. His hair was damp, dried with the towel, and tied back so it was kept out of his face. He was comfortable to say the least, though it could be better it was still good.

After his sip of tea Kioshi reached for the remote and typed in what he was looking for. The books, the movie, and the series had been popular accumulating something of a cult following from what he’d seen. But he hadn’t wanted to jump on the bandwagon, he also felt awkward looking into something that was meant for a much younger audience as far as he could tell at the time. Perhaps he’d been wrong though, as it did seem to have a darker nature to it…without being outright gothic or anything too dark. Being in the state he was, and not wanting something he needed to think about too much, he felt like the series was perfect. They could also go back to it here and there from time to time. “Ready?”

“I’ve never done that before but I could try it out at some point if you’d like?” He’d read things about rice being the breeding ground for various bacteria if not stored correctly, something he made sure didn’t happen in his home but maybe he’d look into what they were talking about a bit more.

Nodding in response to their comment about the hospital, he returned to the kitchen and worked on a bit more of a meal for himself to have alongside the rice he was cooking. It didn’t take long for him to cook up a bit of chicken breast with seasoning to cut and put with the rice as the cooker played its jingle.

Plating it up, he was glad to see them comfy and dressed on the couch. They looked better than they had earlier even if their eyes and face were a bit puffy from crying. After setting the plates and bowls down on the table, he brought back more tea and settled in next to Kioshi. Carefully sliding an arm under the blanket and around them, he figured things were settled enough and they’d appreciate a plain movie night with this show.

“Yes, I believe I recognize the book series this is based on, my niece and nephews read it a while back and I read one or two of the books when they first came out.” They’d been a bit interesting but he wasn’t one for fiction really even when he had been growing up.

“You can, I don’t know if you’d like fried rice. We could make it together - I do know how to make it.” He tended towards a more traditional way, rather than what you got at a cheap chinese place. Kioshi had eaten here a few times at this point, they'd gone out to eat a few times as well, but cooking together was a new idea. He didn’t know what the other liked for food, not really anyway, and he was sure he was rather easy to figure. He stuck to what he knew, or felt like he knew. He’d gone a lot on feel rather than trying new things, he didn’t have the money to waste on trying new foods only to find out he didn’t like them. He couldn’t waste his food by throwing out dishes he didn’t like.

Shifting as close as he could to Lorcan, pressed to their side, as he took to sipping his tea. He would attempt food in a few minutes, as he was setting up to start the first episode on the tv. “I heard about it, it seemed to have been very popular. But it seemed a bit awkward to get into a series meant for younger people. But I’ve also heard it’s a bit dark in tone.” And if nothing else Lorcan should have noticed that the movies he’d given the other, via leaving them in his mail box on a flash drive, were darker in tone typically. The audible account he offered to share with the other did also contain a fair amount of darker fiction books mixed into the documentaries and other books he had in the online collection.

“You don’t think it’s too childish or something we shouldn’t watch? I can find something else.” There were plenty of options, especially if the other had a vpn or some sort and could change his location. Turning gray blue eyes onto the other, questioning, as he bent forward to get his food and settle in to eat. His head moving to rest on the others shoulder as he ate slowly. The food was good, bland enough he could handle it. Rice was also always good…he had a bag of uncooked rice in his kitchen at all times.

“It sounds nice, cooking together. I’ve had fried rice a few times for lunch in rotation, there was a place many of my colleagues ordered from but I’ve never had it made at home.” Back then he’d been a bit worse about eating takeout but he’d managed to curb that habit once he opened his own clinic.

“I think it’s a bit older feeling than initially led on, I know my niece specifically was concerned with some of the things in it. It could be a good watch though, I really don’t mind it and at least I have some background knowledge on it. We don’t always have to watch things meant for adults, just you wait until my niece and nephew are over and get their hands on the controller. I think the last time they were over I got to learn about some sort of show about a blue dog? It was odd but I think as long as it isn’t mindnumblingly stupid I’m alright with most things.” More often than not it meant the comedic cartoons for adults that ran late at night, those he really didn’t like as well as those reality TV-style shows.

Rubbing their side as they ate Lorcan was glad they were finally eating something. “Just be slow with your food, don’t need it coming back up for a second visit.” More concern than disgust in his voice because he knew they dealt with vomiting a lot from their migraines and it always was rough on them. “After an episode or two we can lay down so you can get some rest.” Leaning his head a bit on theirs he was very glad they had showered because the smell of the bar was gone from them finally.

“It’s easy, takes minutes to make fried rice.” It was a staple dish and normal to see made, a main dish as well, he’d have to show Lorcan how to make it. “Good, I’d like to cook together, foods you like and foods I like.” Foods both of them were familiar with, so they could learn other things about each other and share with each other.

“It’ll be interesting to meet your niece and nephew.” And he was honestly nervous about it, to his knowledge he’d never dealt with children, Kioshi wasn’t sure what they’d think of him but more important what Lorcan’s brother and sister-in-law would think about him. That was more his concern. “A blue dog…I’ll keep that in mind.” As the show started he let his focus latch onto the tv screen, while nibbling his food. “Good, I didn’t want to pick something you’d dislike.” Something that would be too childish or lacking in some manner.

“No worries…used to having to eat slow after vomiting or to avoid it.” Was it a bad thing that he was used to vomiting and being sick? Likely. But it was how things were for him - he had migraines. He got sick from them and wound up unable to function. Kioshi was just lucky to have gotten things under better control, though it wasn’t totally under control, it was better than it had been in years. This was thanks to Thomas and Lorcan who both offered advice and help to him. “Sounds good, it’ll give me time to eat and let it settle before bed.” That way he wouldn’t be sick, and trying to sleep on a full stomach was uncomfortable as well. So it would make things better when he went to sleep.

“And tomorrow…breakfast we can make together?” While he handled nursing a hangover.
