Ephesus couldn’t help but smile when the bear seemed to calm down and he giggled as the bear licked his staff. Okay, so the bear was just trying to do its job and protect its home, right? That was okay. And Ephesus was glad the bear was friendly like Amarynthos’s summon. Of course, it made him miss his boyfriend, but that was okay. He would have a lot to talk to him about once they got home.
Getting Urania out of the cage was still a problem though. And they had to jump?
He looked back at the bear when it nudged his staff, and seemed to be offering him a helping hand. And Alastor was asking him if he wanted to try to get the key.
“I can try,” he agreed, and placed one arm around Alastor’s waist to give him a quick hug for strength, before tentatively stepping out from under his sleeve. He handed Alastor his staff before carefully reaching out to give the bear a few pets, and -- with Alastor’s help -- climbed up onto the bear’s back.
You do have to jump though, is what Urania said.
Okay, he could do that. He would just be careful so he wouldn’t hurt the bear. In fact, as he scooted up to the bear’s shoulders as it stood again, he gave the bear a hug.
“Thank you for your help. We’ll be out of your home soon,” he whispered his promise to the magical creature, and then waited until the bear seemed ready for him to stand up on its shoulders. He was certainly much taller now! And if he was careful…
Ephesus took in a deep breath and then jumped up to grab the key above the cage, and came tumbling back down into Alastor’s waiting arms.
“I got it!” he confirmed with a joyful laugh as he held up the key for Urania to see. “Hold on, I can tie it to my staff and lift it up for you,” he offered.

“Well, there’s twelve clans so twelve.” She said as if that was an obvious conclusion. The bear let Ephesus on its shoulders and then it stood up on its back paws. Just by doing that, it was over twice the size it was on all fours. It got the knight very far up. Jumping was no problem with the added height. “Brilliant! I wish I had been so help up here, but there seems to be some sort of spell in this cage that didn’t let me even use my magic to help.”Urania reached out to grab the key off Ephesus’ staff. As soon as she did, the cage opened and lowered to the ground. It and the bear disappeared and then: You have completed the tasks and in an unconventional way, too.You can almost hear happiness in the voice that comes from the sphere. “Thank goodness! Now let’s see if this thing will take my commands now.” Urania started to press the stars engraved on the sphere as if they were buttons. The sphere glowed and Urania’s eyes, too. “Please. Turn the lights back on.”Suddenly, the fog began to lift and a pathway through the forest was lit by crystals in the ground that you couldn’t see before. Guine Congratulations! You have completed the challenge. You can claim your Crown Token in the Crown Token thread. (Quote me and link to this thread.) ❂

Alastor remained on edge for as long as Ephesus was relying on the bear. He didn’t want to admit it, but he held his breath for as long as Ephesus was out of his arms, and only released it when he tumbled back into Alastor’s arms.
He gave him a quick squeeze before tilting the boy down so he could get his feet back on the ground.
So far as he could tell, things had ended well.
The fading fog seemed like an invitation to take in as much as he could about this strange place before they bid farewell to this world and its Senshi. Twelve trials to overcome seemed like a heavy burden to carry, but Urania seemed committed and in good spirits. He didn’t doubt that she’d succeed.
Alastor was proud of her for facing it head-on, and he was proud of Ephesus for finding a way to tap into his strength.
Even with Ephesus back on the ground, he kept an arm wrapped around his shoulder and squeezed it lightly.
“Thank you for inviting us, Urania. I hope you’ll let us know how the rest of your trials go. We’ll be rooting for you.”

Ephesus gasped in delight when the fog was lifted, even if only a little at a time. The forest was beautiful and he was very grateful to have been asked to help. He was worried that he wouldn’t have been very helpful with just his healing, but in the end it seemed like everything was okay.
On his feet, Ephesus had no desire to move away from Alastor. Even if the place seemed peaceful, he also found a lot of strength in being close to those who very obviously cared about him. For most of his life, he didn’t think it was possible to feel like he was wanted and loved, but despite how new of a family they were, it was very clear how much everyone put into making him feel like he was worth something.
And he hoped that they, and all those helping Urania, would help her to feel that way too. Because so many people really did care, even if they showed it in different ways.
He showed Urania a bright smile and nodded in agreement with Alastor. “If you need anything, we’ll be there for you.”

“Thank you!”She sighed in relief. It was a beautiful thing to know there were people out there willing to help her. And she, maybe someday, could return the favor. “If you both ever need anything, let me know!”And with that she teleported them back to Earth. ❂
