Character: Celadon, Page of Cybele
Doing: A barrel roll, Fox

Celadon did not have arrows to fire upon it. She did not have a sword. She could not magic into being a shield. She could not heal with incense. For all intents and purposes, she was useless for this fight.

But she did not believe that. And she knew she should not believe that — she was proven right when the creature reached for her with one of its long tentacles. That arm could have reached for Drombeg. It could have attacked Cybele. It could have knocked over Halle. But the more contributory members of Hy-Brasil's group weren't targeted because it picked her instead. And as long as she — the one who otherwise couldn't attack it or help the others — was the focus of its assaults? That was a manner of assistance all its own.

So she didn't mind that it swung on her. She didn't mind that she had to immediately drop to the ground. She didn't mind that it hurt to roll her own body weight over her injury as she rolled to the right.

It meant that the creature left the others alone, and that was her victory.

Character: Squire Halle of Lysithea
Doing: releasing his shield,
Damage:

There were a few faces that were vaguely familiar, which meant they'd also been at the sleep clinic earlier in the month. They were people who showed up, when called, even when at a disadvantage, like the page Celadon. Halle listened to the others explain their abilities, and he took in their weapons, trying to commit everything to memory. Trying to place everyone on a field in his mind more out of gaming habit than lived experience, he quickly losing track of pieces in the moment, and entirely once the tentacles lashed out again.

A lesson: his summoned shield, if left static, wasn't much of a deterrent against a swift and agile enemy.

Halle dropped the magic quickly after the attack, unwilling to waste it further. He'd have to figure out how to bring it out swiftly, turn it into a reflex much the same as raising his arms to protect himself. The way Celadon clearly knew how to take a hit and literally roll with it.

A lesson: magic can't replace learning how to fight.

As others recovered from the attack, Halle nodded toward Hy-Brasil, "Like bookending it?" That'd be a good way to more fully control its pathing. "I can stay on this side and close in with shields. Break and reform when it reaches the water?"

It was a little frustrating, to be honest, that a shield was all he had to offer. Not a staff, bow, or sword. It felt so passive, especially in the current situation. He couldn't even really take on the role of tank in some semblance of the holy trinity. A shield was better than nothing, but still far from ideal.

Character: Kaifeng, Squire of Saturn
Doing: Showing up with Helene and springing into action.

It had been a pretty easygoing night in Destiny City, at least as far as Kaifeng and Helene’s patrol together had gone. They hadn’t run into much trouble—well. Kaifeng personally had run into the trouble of How Do Focus In Front Of The Beautiful Alien Man, but this was simply an aspect of working together with Helene. The sky was blue, water was wet, Helene made Kaifeng’s cheeks flush warm and inspired his heart to do supremely unauthorized flippity little gymnastics inside his chest. All facts of nature that couldn’t be helped, and in the case of the last, it required Kaifeng to press through those feelings like an adult and a very serious Squire of Saturn, who took his duties seriously.

Even knowing that unexpected things so often happened among the magical folk of Destiny City, that normally had not—at least, not in Kaifeng’s experience—involved finding himself teleported out of the city and into a scenic field of knee-high grass with red flowers smattered throughout. The clear blue sky above, likewise, was not the city sky that he’d left behind. And while he recognized some of the others around—at least three of whom were familiar to him (Halle, one of the twin unicorn squires from the sleep-center battle, the very shiny Cosmos Knight [Erytheia], and the young lady in the pink dress that seemed so reminiscent of Princess Cybele’s [Celadon])—Kaifeng’s first instinct was nevertheless to check around and make sure that Helene had been teleported with him and not abandoned on his own out in the city.

His second instinct was to note the frankly enormous, tentacled monster-thing attacking the other Knights who’d been assembled here.

Noting that one of the two knights in the browns and greens (Hy-Brasil) seemed to be the one planning what to do about the beast—trying to get it toward the water—Kaifeng darted off closer to the others and to her specifically, trusting that Helene would be close behind. “Kaifeng of Saturn,” he introduced himself with a smile and a brief wave. “Do you know how this guy reacts to distractions? My magic summons ghosts. If I can get down to the water to summon them, our friend might chase after them?”

Character: Drombeg, Knight of Earth
Doing: Hitting at one of the tentacles and moving into a spot to try to help with getting the Sidhe to move in the direction the group wants it.
Damage: N/A

There wasn't much time for interactions as the creature had decided that now was the time to attack. The tentacles hadn't moved towards him yet so he was able to start moving around to the back of the creature, facing the see and hopefully helping to get it to move that way.

He hadn't yet been able to hit it, his sword being on the short side and not wanting to get too close to the thing, but he kept it out in case he needed to bat one of those tentacles out of the way. He wasn't sure if the creature could understand them and so stayed silent for the moment, in case any talking from him gave the creature an understanding of what he was trying to do. As much as he would have liked to be a target compared to those who weren't Knights, they needed to get this thing moving somehow.

He decided to see if his magic was of some use and slashed his sword ahead of him, and a foggy patch could be seen behind the creature now. It wouldn't effect him if he went in it, but he hoped that it might force whatever this thing was to start moving closer towards the water.

Quote:
Drombeg swings his sword, and the target is surrounded by a foggy, dense forest that expands within a 10-foot circle as well as above. It’s hard to make anything out within the nature-filled area and the user is able to bump into trees, bushes, roots, etc. There is a way out of the forest, but if the player is less “virtuous” (aka Drombeg’s targets) then they will have a harder time finding their way as it appears that the fog will continue to follow them. Characters are able to find their way out, it will just take longer for whomever Drombeg is targeting.
Other characters who are caught within the nature-filled circle and are not targets will see no fog and be able to easily find the way out.
The magic pool lasts for up to 50 seconds and can be broken up into whatever increments he wants to cast, but only one character can be targeted at a time.

Character: Deep Space Sailor Helene
Doing: Sticking with Kaifeng and using his magic on the creature! (Which might be ineffective, but we're trying anyway.)

It was a good night to be with Kaifeng, Helene judged. Earth's seasons were quite nice, and this part of the world seemed to have mild autumns, and he couldn't help but enjoy the myriad of colors that the trees turned as their leaves died and prepared for winter.

It was, after all, life that his world had not seen for centuries. He missed the cycles of the plants and animals of Helene, and he suspected that it would be a long time before he saw them again--if he ever did.

But it was not to be an entirely peaceful night, it seemed. There was a pull--not entirely unlike the one that had brought him to Earth, but this felt...different. More desperate. And he let it carry him, and let it place him next to Kaifeng in this strange, new place.

A Wonder, by his guess. And one Knight, aglow with strange magical markings, who seemed to be leading the gathered group.

As he and Kaifeng approached, he gave her a sharp nod. She seemed to understand, and so--

"Helene," he introduced himself, simply. Then, "Inhibit Impulse."

He doubted his magic would be particularly effective, but it might confuse the creature, slow it down, if it was capable of any kind of thought. All the better for them.

Inhibit Impulse!
Helene speaks the name of his attack, and makes a sweeping gesture with his hand. Enemies within a 10-foot radius of him feel overcome by inhibition, as if every action they might take would be shameful and worthy of judgment. This feeling lasts for 30 seconds, and Helene can use this attack three times per battle.

Character: Knight Nectaris
Doing: Running in, using magic
Damage: HIT, graze

A strange tendril whipped out from the ghost monster, and while Nikki tried to step out of the way, it still brushed against her shoulder. It didn't so much hurt as it felt cold. Like, too cold, and sad.

Nikki had been doing good. She'd been distracted, but just like that, she was missing her family again.

Whatever. She could push through it, and she could keep running. The Earth Knight was saying to throw whatever they had at the big thing, and she could do that. If it meant getting up close and personal with a giant ghost, it meant getting up close and personal with a giant ghost.

Vaguely, she realized that she didn't really know any of the others who were showing up now. Maybe in passing, but they weren't, like, her friends. Maybe that was bad.

Maybe her family had a point that there were other people who she could hang out with who weren't just Chaos boys.

When she was close enough, she slammed her staff into the ground, and a full moon spread out on the ground at her feet, and the feet of the monster.

Kolina
Magic - Nectaris channels her magic by touching her staff to the ground. An image of a glowing full moon forms on the ground beneath her, 15 feet in diameter, and the area is filled with moonlight. Order characters only feel the moonlight as a slight hopeful omen, but to Chaos characters, the light gives the sensation of painful second degree burns across their entire body. This stops immediately if they go out of range of the spell, and the pain is purely illusory. This magic never leaves lasting damage. Nectaris can channel for 45 seconds.

Character: Transcended Earth Knight Hy-Brasil
Doing: Giving out Orders

Hy glanced around after everyone moved. Those who had been in range of the tentacles seemed to have managed well enough. No one looked grievously injured. Perfect! Her mind was spinning as she glanced behind the Sidhe that seemed confused on where to go now that it’s target had spread out.

Halle and Erythei had the right of it. They needed to get the monstrous thing closer to the water was. Even if she lifted the fog around the island, it would be useless if the Sidhe just remained where it was. “That’s a good idea, Halle.” And the beginnings of a plan began to take shape.

And magic really began to fly.

When the forest appeared Hy saw it for the opportunity it was and began yelling to the group, incredibly thankful that the Sidhe wasn’t a creature of conscious thought or understanding. “Eyrtheia and Halle, stay back and help push it down the bank if it tries to go the wrong direction. Use those arrows you have, Erytheia if you need to. Drombeg, keep that up for a few seconds more so we can get around it!”

The rest of you, let’s gather up and act like a lure. Try not to group too close that we are an easy target but we want to make sure we are the bigger treat for it.”

Character: Big Sidhe
Doing: Confused, shrieking, and blasting outwards at everyone around

The group it was after spread out. The Sidhe stood in one spot as if unsure which way to go. The hesitation cost it as Erytheia’s arrow impacted with it’s body. It shrieked in surprise and turned its attention on the Knight that had caused it pain. The sidhe glided over the grass after Erytheia but didn’t get too far in its pursuit.

A forest appeared around it. Thick and nearly impossible to navigate with its large form. Every direction it tried to move it ran into yet another tree. The fog did little to disturb its vision of its attackers since it didn’t rely on sight to know the general direction they all were, but it did make attacking difficult. Tentacles swept out only to hit more trees.

More magic came, one that pushed emotions that it had never once felt, stunning it for a few moments as it tried to navigate the feelings of inhibition that it couldn’t understand.

Nectaris’s magic struck true, and the creature shrieked again. This time that same high-pitched wailing as before that struck both the ears and mind of everyone around. It did not like whatever was happening. Never had it had so much trouble.

An Energy Pulse swept out from the Sidhe in every direction, with it as the epicenter. The pulse reached far, not giving anyone a chance to avoid the physical and mental attack as it ballooned out like the blast it was.

EVERYONE ROLL FOR AUTO DAMAGE - This attack has a heavier mental toll on top of it being a physical attack. The physical side is an effect much like a blast impact would have. THIS ATTACK CAN'T BE AVOIDED.

Character: Transcended Earth Knight Hy-Brasil
Doing: Trying to assemble everyone.
Damage: Auto Hit For Attack, Graze

Kaifeng, I don’t know if it’ll work or not, but it’s worth a shot! Let’s get down to the shore and hopefully your magic gives us that extra boost.”

The shrieking again made Hy-Brasil try to shield her ears in vain. The mental screech was just all encompassing. She paused in her running and glanced back just in time to see the attack coming as the wave of dust and rippling of grass indicated the energy pulse. Turning her body to the side so she was a smaller target Hy braced and was merely pushed back with a bit of a stumble.

The darkness that wanted to seep into her mind an overtake her, shoot her down into familiar arms of despair was like a shock of cold water. Determination and being bolstered by knowing there were others around her were aids in helping push those horrid feelings to the side.

This plan had to work. She couldn’t doubt herself now. From how the creatures functioned it theoretically should. She just wasn’t sure if there were any more things the Sidhe could do. She certainly hadn’t expected them all to converge into one big one. A big one that appeared to have a plethora of attacks too! What she wasn’t sure about, was if the thing could be forced out when it was just so large.

“Everyone alright?!” She yelled as she began moving again. Her eyes flitted around to see if anyone needed a quick heal.

Character: Squire Halle of Lysithea
Doing: trying to shield Nectaris
Damage: auto hit for minor damage

"Okay!" Halle called, starting to separate slightly from the group in order to get a clearer view of the battlefield. The butterfly knight with the moon powers rushed up to engage with the creature, summoning a huge glowing moon and its feet. The effect was immediate and impressive as it screeched in a way that rang straight through him.

Worried it'd counter right away, Halle summoned the giant unicorn shield once more, this time in front of the Moon Knight (Nectaris). She was closest to the monster, and likely to be hit hardest and fastest.

Just in time too, as the next attacks proved to be an aoe of sorts, knocking him back with a pained grunt. And where he should have felt a certain satisfaction over protecting the Knight, all he felt was a grim certainty that it wasn't enough. That things were going to get worse, and when they did, it'd be Lisse or Almere running up to join the fray. He turned his head, half convinced he'd seen Lysithean pastels in the corner of his eye.

Squire: A simple wooden long shield shaped like a unicorn head
Defensive magic: summons a 6'x 12' version of the wooden shield, while it only blocks magic and physical attacks from one direction, it is a physical manifestation that also blocks line of sight as to what's going on behind it.

Character: Drombeg, Knight of Earth
Doing: Recovering from attack
Damage: Moderate-Severe

Unfortunately his magic had had the opposite effect and had managed to keep his opponent effectively in place. At least he realized that this wasn't something he could control like that.

He couldn't contemplate it for long as the creature sent out an energy pulse that knocked him off of his feet, causing him to lose his grip on his sword as it went flying and he landed hard in the grass on one of the sides of his back. He was glad that it wasn't his spine but there was still quite a bit of pain.

He could feel chaotic energy start to push its way into his mind. Giving him dark thoughts, though both luckily and unluckily the pain that he was feeling made it easier to ignore.

He groaned as he moved himself back up, blinking to make sure that he knew where he was and that everything could still move. "I'm... okay. I need to find my sword though!" He said as he looked behind him. The grass wasn't horribly tall but... finding the sword was going to be a bit difficult. He only just managed to raise himself up, attempting to spot a dip in the grass where it might have landed. He felt a pulse of pain go up his ride side through his arm. Yeah, he definitely wasn't going to be able to grip anything with that for a bit.

Character: Celadon, Page of Cybele
Doing: Following the plan
Damage: Moderate hit

She wasn't lucky enough the second time around. There was no way she was jumping over the shockwave, and neither was anyone else. Instead, she got blasted backward and onto the ground, for her leg wasn't quite ready to hold her weight at such an angle. Worse than the pain of being blasted backward, though, was the misplaced despair that came with it.

It felt strange to be so suddenly emotionally attached to her own uselessness, but the strength of that attachment was undeniable. She felt worthless in this fight. And, ultimately, since the creature could hit all of them at once, she was. No longer could she cheer herself up with the idea that she could be a distraction, because the creature could hit all of them indiscriminately. Instead, she was a useless Page with no magic, helpless to essentially stand around and watch everyone else do the damage that she wished she could do. Erytheia had arrows. Drombeg had magic. Halle had a shield. What did she have? A broken necklace.

Hopes and ******** dreams.

Gritting her teeth, Celadon pushed herself up off the ground. Hy-Brasil had a plan. Even if the Earth Knight didn't call her name, she was part of that plan. If nothing else, she knew where her body needed to go, so Celadon spit the chunk of grass out of her mouth and started hobbling through the waist-high grass to put herself between the Sidhe and the coast.

Character: Erytheia of Cosmos
Doing: Herding and shooting
Damage: Hit - Severe

“Yes. I’ll help push it back. Stay safe.” Erytheia held back to where the squire with the shield was. He was a bit worried about using other as bait, but he acknowledged that was the smartest plan.

After his shot, the creature turned on him, but missed as it was enveloped by another Earth knight’s magic, one he has never met before.

When all of this was over, he really needed to get out of his shell and meet other knights.

He fired another arrow to herd it along with the unicorn shield which seemed like a pretty good weapon for the task.

Perhaps he had been thinking a bit too much because he didn’t see the monster’s pulsing attack until it was too late to get out of the way.

Erytheia immediately felt the hit and it dropped him to his knees. But it wasn’t just the physically hit, it was mental, too. For a second, his vision turned to black.

All he could see was in his peripheral, shadows looming and visions of his fellow knights falling to Chaos.

Then he blinked and everything was back as it was.

Character: Kaifeng, Squire of Saturn
Doing: ………well, an attempt was made and now he’s panicking.
Damage: HIT SEVERELY! emotion_kirakira

Hearing the lead Earth Knight (Hy-Brasil)’s plan, Kaifeng nodded. He liked this plan. It was simple, easily understood, and it meant that he’d get to summon his ghostly friends. (He didn’t begrudge anyone finding them creepy, especially not given what they did when summoned, but personally, Kaifeng rather liked them. They had a good way of messing up would-be troublemakers, and in his opinion, they were kind of cute.)

Falling in with the group, Kaifeng pushed through the tall grass as fast as it and his skirt would let him. But their fearless leader had said to get down to the shore, which meant it was time to make for the shore. As he pushed through, Kaifeng tried not to stray too far from Helene—both out of concern for his senshi, and out of a desire not to worry him by running off alone or something equally foolish and reckless and dangerous—but at the same time, his magic only had so big a radius. In order to use it as a lure for the monster, Kaifeng needed to get close.

Which, unfortunately, put him right up next to the blast of energy.

For a brief second before the energy pulse went off, everything seemed to slow down. Kaifeng fumbled to a halt, staring at the creature, and the thought flashed into his mind, It’s going to hit me with that energy now, isn’t it.

He flinched away when the blast went off, trying to turn and cover himself as much as possible, but it didn’t do any good. Maybe he wasn’t quick enough about it. Or maybe he just drew the short straw today. But trying to turn away from the blast only seemed to put Kaifeng further into its path. The impact knocked him back and sent him flying. Not very far, but far enough to feel it hard when he smacked into the ground. Sharp pain shocked up one of his legs; he’d been mid-twist when the energy pulse had hit him, and the impact had jerked his leg in a way that it had no business jerking. Even trying to experimentally readjust it hurt. Dammit, Kaifeng likely wouldn’t be standing on his own tonight. Worse still, something wrenched in his side—the same side where that Negaverse General had stabbed him in the back before—and Kaifeng felt something warm starting to pool. When he looked down, he saw red seeping out onto his blue vest, as if someone had spilled his dress on it.

But that wasn’t the worst part.

The worst part was the tightness that clamped down on his chest. The shock of cold that fell on him, heavy and black, blacker than a cellar in Boston with no windows and a locked door and—

No. No.

Inhaling sharply, Kaifeng shook his head. That wasn’t real. It couldn’t be. He didn’t live in Boston anymore; he lived in Destiny City, Virginia. And he wasn’t Zhìháo anymore because nobody was Zhìháo because Zhìháo was dead and everyone was better off, why couldn’t Xingyi have still been alive instead of Zhìháo, troubled but working on it was so much better than whatever was ******** wrong with Huang Zhìháo

Although he didn’t try to push himself up, fixed in place, Kaifeng’s heart stampeded against his ribcage. Wild, like it wanted to claw its way out of him. His breaths grew so shallow, he barely felt them. He gasped and gasped but it didn’t feel like he was getting any air. Had he really ever stopped being that? Did he really think he was so great, some big Knight of Saturn, as if that could erase everything else he’d ever been, just because he deserved his Knighthood didn’t mean that it would fix him, and when Helene figured that out, as he inevitably would……

Character:Knight Nectaris
Doing: Keeping up the magic
Damage: Shielded!

This time, instead of weird tendrils, it was a magic blast that came out. At point blank, Nectaris squinted and gritted her teeth-

But it didn't hit her.

Instead, she saw that pastel, see through thing in front of her again. That unicorn. It was that cute Squire's shield! He'd helped her! Because of him, she didn't falter. She could keep her light burning bright, under the dark spirit's feet.

"Thank you!" she said, and she dug her fingernails into her staff and her toes into the dirt as best she could, her magic still going. This really felt like a scene in one of those movies, where everyone held hands and beat back the darkness.
