Definitely like a planet-wide potluck.

Encke grinned at getting to introduce her to something she would assuredly love. "In some things similar to potluck, I suppose you could think of it that way. Hot pot, for example, is when a lot of people put food in a warm broth to cook, and it's a pot they all share -- though you can get individual ones too..."

Hot pot was delicious.

... Now he was hungry.

"But a potluck is something very similar to what you're describing. Everyone brings their own dish that they prepared," or bought. He had definitely taken that route before, "and everyone shares it. Sometimes you get foods you've never tried before, or at least don't get normally unless your friends make them. Feels like something that could give you a piece of what your people had."

... and delicious food.

"Not an official one," noted Encke, though now he wished there was one. Maybe he was just hungry. "But a lot of people have potlucks around festivals or even just for fun gatherings with friends. My family has held them pretty often, honestly, sometimes for no particular reason."

That was just the Bells, though.

"You can usually find them on community calendars around this time of year, too. Everyone's pretty festive and food usually falls right in with that."

"You'll have to invite me when you do." Maybe the rest of the Bells too-- would that be excessive?

Maybe he should ask how open she was to meeting people--

Wait, food? That sounded delightful.

"I'd love to!" Food was a pleasant distraction from everything else, anyway, and perhaps they could talk a bit more about their worlds over some excessively greasy festival food. Encke actually hadn't managed to get any fried dough this year yet; that needed to be rectified.

Maybe he could introduce the alien to some fun fair food.
