But there was so much work to be done here. And being on the Moon… it was so cool! How many other people could say they’d been here? (More than most people on Earth were aware of, apparently, but still! The novelty of it wasn’t going to wear off any time soon, Cynthus was sure of that.) They’d have to go to Reims one day to see what it was like. Cynthus hoped it wasn’t better than her market. Reims would never shut up if his Wonder was something cooler than hers.
First things first: They had to find a place for the Code to stay. Cynthus tried to play it cool, but it seemed like such a huge responsibility. She couldn’t pick any old thing, even if the Code said it didn’t have to be fancy. (Which was a good thing, because there didn’t seem to be anything fancy here.) She wandered from broken stall to broken stall, then from the remains of one ramshackle structure to another, considering her options, searching for the perfect spot.
She kept coming back to the well.
From there, they had an unobstructed view of Earth — blue and beautiful in a dark sky strewn with countless stars.
The magnitude of it all settled on her shoulders then. It seemed so much bigger than anything else she’d ever undertaken in her entire life. Like Reims, Cynthus had to wonder what exactly she’d gotten herself into.
