“I just need you,” Orien said, letting his fingers brush over Kaelan’s face and down to his neck to massage the back. “Well, and maybe some of that chocolate. But I think we should still try to go out when you’re ready. I’m well enough, I think. And I really want to see how much you can get from that peacock. You’ve got a good eye, Kay.”
He wished things had been different and that Kaelan’s mother had cared more to actually read the letters, but they would just have to move forward as best they could.
It would take some time to get everything settled and make themselves comfortable, but with some hard work and a little luck, maybe they would really be okay sooner than later.
“I like you too. You’re so kind and thoughtful. Okay, I’ll just eat some chocolate and then I’ll get dressed. Does that work?”

Truthfully, Kaelan could have stayed like that for a few more moments, but he knew that Orien’s health was currently unpredictable and that they should take advantage of it while he was in a good spell. “That sounds perfect.”
He didn’t know if he was really so kind and thoughtful, or if Orien just didn’t have a baseline to compare it to, but there was no denying that he cared for Orien very much and wanted to do whatever he could to make sure he was taken care of. Kaelan wasn't even sure that Orien really knew how to take care of himself. Survive, sure! But he’d had to deal with so much that he supposed the simple, little things probably got glossed over.
There were so many things he wondered if Orien had ever been able to experience. And, if he hadn't, so many things he wanted to introduce him to.
But, they had time.
They’d make it work.
