"Um…" Niter made a solid attempt to search for an answer that wasn't a straightforward no. He was trying to think if there was anything in his general memory that fit Tama's description — anything that seemed out of place in accordance with how he understood his own life. But even as Niter reflected, he lacked an understanding for what that looked like. Would it be like remembering himself and his upbringing, but also waking up as an Unkindled? Because he couldn't recall anything like that.
"No, I think they all make sense?" Niter paused, then added, "But I can imagine something like it. Like if I remembered growing up here, which I did, but also remembered growing up in China. Is it that kind of thing?" Maybe the broader picture was simply Remembering Things That Don't Make Sense, and Niter could get behind that, too.
And as Tama explained, Niter thought it would be pretty jarring if he experienced something like that. "So, uh, is it like remembering something that you thought you forgot? Or like, when you're talking, and you can't quite remember a word, and then suddenly it pops into your head?" Though he supposed that would imply having known the word the entire time, and Tama sounded like this wasn't quite the case?
Niter thought this was sounding like someone put a constructed memory in Tama's head, but he thought it better to keep that idea to himself. It was a lot to spring on someone.
"I'm sorry you lost your knight friend. Was it Faustite's fault?"

“Like remembering something you thought you forgot.”Well, more like something taken from you and that you thought you’d never get back.Perhaps trying to explain this was futile. If Tama had said that it made complete sense to him, he would be lying. Lying how he knew of the memories. Lying how they made him feel. Lying that he even knew that Faustite knew what he’d taken… But then the emotions clouded the logic like a storm hiding the horizon. “Of course it was Faustite’s fault! He put his hand in my chest and fiddled with my starseed and then…” Was that when he lost his memory of the knight, right then? Did the Chaos know that the memory of this person could not exist as long as he was here with the Negaverse? Had it really tried to spare him that pain? Had Faustite knew what he would lose? His eyes grew large as he remembered the other object he had other than the dagger he used to stab Faustite. “The memory came back when I touched this.”A very old ring was pulled from subspace. It had the symbol of Cosmos still visible through the cracked and charred metal. ☆

Remembering something he thought he forgot? Niter could get behind that. Like being convinced he forgot his parking space number in the parking lot, only to have it suddenly pop back into his head. That seemed reasonable enough. Relatable. Maybe Niter was reading too much into it before.
Sitting on folded legs, Niter listened while Tama explained himself. Even when the Mauvian worked himself up again, Niter didn't stop petting his back in long, slow, light strokes.
It sounded like Faustite had made some choices for Tama that Tama might not have wanted for himself. And now, the ring he had jogged his memory of whatever his life was like before he got inserted into the Negaverse, and Tama very understandably held that against him. Maybe not the 'against his will' part, but the 'took away his person' part. And for all Niter knew, that was the most important part to Tama. Maybe what side he was on didn't much matter, so long as he was by the side of the someone he lost.
"I can definitely see why you stabbed him," Niter soothed. "It sounds like you had good people with the White Moon. Err, a good person, at least." He scratched the nape of his neck.
"But um, and this is just a suggestion, but you might want to consider trying something other than vengeance next time? Because it doesn't seem like it really helped you. If you want to find your knight friend, we can go looking together sometime? And then maybe we can get him to join you here."

“Vengeance certainly didn’t help me.”Although, it did feel good at the time. Sometimes, you just have to stab someone to make yourself feel better. Had Faustite deserved it? Probably. But not for what the cat had accused him of. Not even close. It wasn’t his fault he had unrequited love feelings for some boy whose name he didn’t even remember. It was still his fault about the whole starseed grabbing with out consent thing, though. “I don’t even know his name. And I don’t think Faustite does either.” He sighed. He was so tired. “Can I just… sit here for a bit? I’m not sure I can talk about it any more.”But the cat was already in Niter’s lap, purring softly. ☆

"Oh, um, yeah. Sorry," Niter added hastily. "Sometimes I get carried away and, um, problem-solve where I shouldn't?" And he grew pink in the cheeks for it. Stepping out of line socially felt a lot like stepping on boards of nails barefoot, while the nails were coated in undiluted hydrochloric acid. He was feeling it now — feeling the burn — but at least Tama wasn't overtly upset by it.
That he knew of. Which was a whole other fear.
"Yeah, we can sit here." Niter nodded, even though the Mauvian wasn't looking at him. His braids brushed against the floor as a sort of audible agreement. "Take as long as you need." And if other Mauvians entered in the mean time? Niter hoped they didn't, and he'd worry that they would, probably for 59 seconds of each minute that Tama needed, but he told himself they would tackle that situation if it ever came.
In the mean time, Tama seemed like he just needed time and quiet. He'd been seen by medical, so Niter didn't have to worry about convincing him to seek medical help. Instead, he settled into quietly continuing to stroke Tama's remaining fur as he tried to quiet his own thoughts.
There was always so much going on, even in the Negaverse. Maybe they both needed that minute.
