For a brief moment, the girl puffed up, indignant at being hushed. But she realized, after he looked around the area, why he was warning her - it was the same reason she'd been so wary of the squealing creature in the first place. "Right." She murmured, cheeks heating in embarrassment. Eujanie stepped closer, arms held out to take her prize, but the stranger instead seemed intent on questioning her.
She huffed, shooting a look at him, "No." No magic - not for lack of trying. Her mom was a sage, after all, but that particular bit of power hadn't seemed interesting in passing down to her. "Just my knife and some rope. Why's it matter?"

"Because if I'd been in a mind to take this kill, and throw you into the pit with your knife in your throat I could." As Hargitt made to stand he reached forward and dropped the leg into her waiting arms. "If that's all you plan on taking with you then you'd better be a lot more aware of others watching. Otherwise I'd start training with something a little more substantial. You've a long life ahead of you if you play it smart."
If he'd been a bandit with the least bit of magic her body would be scorched and buried beneath a mound of dirt. When he'd been her age he was out and about on his own, but with a larger, more robust armory. It would be a hard lesson to hear, but hopefully one she took to heart.

But why? Eujanie, who'd been raised with more caution towards creatures than humans, wrinkled her brow at his statement, tense but confused. "Uh... thanks." She murmured, embarrassed as she took hold of the large shank, looking at the older man with wary, but thoughtful eyes. Was that the benefit of growing up in the forest? She'd been to Belrea, as a kid, a few times to visit her grandpa, but her family had been with her. And every trip to the nearby settlements too...
So, Eujanie had never met a stranger out here. On her own. It was weird, to realize that, when she liked to think she was so independent. She felt annoyed, to have it hinted to her that she HADN'T been playing it 'smart' before - even if it rang true, despite her wishing otherwise.
"Fine. For next time. But-" She paused, then grinned, "This time I got a leg out of it, so I think I made it out okay. Lucky or not."

Hargitt's maw settled into an exhausted frown. "You're not wrong, but you're also not right." He bundled up his meat as tightly as possible, slung it over his sides with the rest and made sure to keep it away from his rather massive crystals. Normally he would have padded them, but honestly he hadn't expected to find this much today.
"Tell your mother about the pit. Don't let her fall." He wasn't going to remove it by any means, but he also didn't want the woman to break a leg or worse. And with his warning in place Hargitt started to walk away.

Great! She was wrong/right. Whatever. Eujanie huffed and rolled her eyes, petulant but at least not objecting to his strange mothering. Funny that he was so concerned, when HE was the one digging holes everywhere! ... Still - she turned her eyes to the pit, thinking, because she'd seen his net technique, and if they could use the hole to catch more stuff-
Well. Dad would help her figure it out. "Yep! Thanks for the leg. And-- er. The advice."
