Princess Ganymede

“Val?” Ganymede called, but she received no answer.

She was alone. Or she seemed to be. It happened so suddenly, she couldn’t be sure what transpired; she only knew Valhalla had been beside her one second and was gone the next. Ganymede looked over her shoulder, toward the Core and the boys, but she saw neither of them. Lucasta, too, seemed to have disappeared.

How was that possible? What had happened? Had she blacked out, perhaps, as the Chaos descended? She didn’t think so. She’d experienced pain. She’d been able to smell it. She thought she’d heard a hiss, a cry.

But, no matter which way she turned, the room remained empty.

“You look ridiculous.”

Ganymede turned again at the sound of a voice. She came face to face with her father for the first time since the day he died ten years ago.

“Hey, old man,” she said.

She’d almost forgotten what he looked like, what he sounded like, how awkward she always felt around him, wishing they could understand one another. She thought they had in the end. She loved him, despite everything. He loved her, in his own way.

He snorted a laugh and looked her over. “What are you wearing?”

Ganymede looked down at herself — at the layers of ruffles and trailing tulle, and the jewels that dripped from her shoulders and arms.

“I always did like to make a statement,” she told him.

“How many birds had to die for you to make those wings?” he asked.

Ganymede laughed. She couldn’t help herself. This couldn’t possibly be real, and yet a part of her treasured the opportunity. A decade later and she still missed him. She wished, sometimes, that she’d had the chance to tell him about this life before he died, that he could have known everything about who she was.

“What are you doing here?” she asked him.

“Should I not be?” he replied, skeptical.

“No,” she said. Then, “I don’t think this is really you.”

Guardian Cat Lucasta

Lucasta shook the sudden disorientation away and turned to make sure the others were unharmed.

She found the room splattered with blood.

Not being the emotional sort, she didn’t immediately panic. She took stock of her surroundings. The room was the same, except that Ephesus, Amarynthos, Valhalla, and Ganymede were gone. The dark droplets seemed to have ceased. The Core was there. Everything was as it had been moments ago, except for the blood.

Cautiously, Lucasta padded around the room, ears twitching as she tried to pinpoint any sound.

A soft, rattling breath caught her attention.

Ganymede lay upon the ground in a pool of blood, her dress torn and stained, eyes almost vacant as she stared up at the ceiling.

“Ganymede,” Lucasta said. She rushed over, heedless of the blood that stained her paws. “What’s happened?”

Ganymede’s eyes, once so bright and joyful, turned toward her, now dull, their light dimming. “Lucasta…”

“What’s happened?” Lucasta asked again. “Where are the others?”

“They’re gone,” Ganymede said, voice brittle. “Gone. It was—... There was nothing we could do. Nothing. It happened so fast…”

“We were all just here,” Lucasta argued.

Ganymede took another rattling breath.

Ephesus, Squire of the Moon

Ephesus held on tightly to Alastor, rubbing at his back and trying to understand what happened. Alastor was acting as though everyone was gone. But how could that be possible?

“What happened? Dad! What happened?” he asked through the tears the fell as he looked up at him. “Mary was just here. Maybe -- maybe he’s hiding somewhere. He’s really good at hiding. And Sessrumnir! He’s… he okay, isn’t he? We can’t leave until we find them and the others!”

They couldn’t be gone.

“Mary!” he called out, because maybe he was just playing a game. “Mary, Mary!” he cried louder. “Marius!”

The name slipped out before he even realized what he was saying. He didn’t know why, other than it was just so close to Alastor’s first son’s name. And of course Ephesus thought about him and wondered what he was like.

He was standing so close to the Core. He could feel the warmth from it, but the flecks of light seemed… different. They weren’t calm. But that would make sense if Alastor was so distraught, right?

Valhalla, Transcended Knight of Jupiter

“Is that really the best you’ve got?” Jet laughed as he easily avoided Valhalla’s staff.

“I know you’re not real,” Valhalla hissed at the curly haired young man, whose charming face twisted into a dark sneer and brought his weapon down on the Knight.

Valhalla let out a cry of pain, the side of his arm torn and bloody. But… was that possible? This was just an illusion, right? The Chaos couldn’t actually hurt them--??

His staff fell to the ground with a clatter, but he grabbed hold of the pocket watch by his hip.

“Kyrie,” he growled out a call to his summon, and she rose up from his side in her ghostly form. “Use your lightning,” he called to her, directing her to Jet who stood in the middle of the room, but close to the Core, his arms outstretched as though ready for whatever attack she had.

But she didn’t use her lightning.

Valhalla stared in confusion as the giant eagle dove at Jet, but didn’t use the magic that could have easily scorched the rest of the room. Was she worried about the Core? She could have been far enough away from that.

Why didn’t she use her magic?

Jet swung his blade at her instead, but just barely missed clipping her wing.

Alastor’s face was gaunt and he grimaced; blood pooled under his outfit, and the longer they hugged, the more it spread. His shoulder was hurt. He had an injury on his stomach, too, and one of his arms.

He couldn’t look at Ephesus, but he took a step back as if to draw him from the Core.

“I couldn’t protect them. Any of them,” he said quietly.

“The shadows got them both. Valhalla, Ganymede, Lucasta. All of them. You were closest to the Core, weren’t you? I could feel you. I tried to keep you safe. I gave everything I had. I’m sorry, Ephesus. I’m sorry, Atticus. Son. I tried. I can’t bring them back. I have to get you out of here. There’s nothing we can do. I don’t have the energy to get us out of here, but it’s too late. It’s lost, all of it. If we stay here, we’re just condemning ourselves, too. I can’t let the shadows have you. I have to protect you.”

Princess Ganymede

“Why wouldn’t it be me?” her father asked.

“Because you’re dead,” Ganymede said.

Her father shrugged. “But the dead are never truly gone, or whatever nonsense bullshit people like to spout off to make themselves feel better.”

Ganymede laughed again, quietly. She closed her eyes to the image. “If I didn’t already know better, I might be convinced.”

“But you’ve seen too much, haven’t you?” a different voice said. This one was no less familiar.

Ganymede looked again, just in time to watch the last of her father’s features become those of Empyrean, Page of Jupiter.

Everything was the same as the last time she saw him. His eyes, bright light Michael’s. His hair, graying at the temples. Some of his features were Michael’s. Some of them were Chris’s. Others were Peter’s. His green tunic was neat and orderly, adorned by the symbol of Jupiter, with small stones on his belt that glowed.

He wore the calm, patient expression she knew so well.

“Yes,” she said. “I think you’ll have trouble figuring out what might work on me. You might as well just drop the act.”

“You never used to be this confident.”

“It isn’t confidence,” Ganymede argued. “It’s… loss, maybe. When you’ve seen as much of the war as I have, parts of it start losing their effect.”

“This isn’t your war,” Empyrean said.

“No. But Chaos is Chaos.”

She turned away from him. The others couldn’t have gone far. Perhaps they’d escaped. Perhaps they’d been drawn into their own illusions, separated from her by the shadows. If she could find them, if there was some way to break through…

A pair of hands grabbed her by the shoulders, forcing her back around.

The face was different again. Not her father. Not Empyrean. But a man, still, tall and slim with silver hair, and eyes Ganymede only now realized were the same shade as Liesel’s.

Her breath caught, but only for a moment. From somewhere far off, a familiar sound reached her ears — the cry of an eagle.

Valkyrie.

---------------------------------------

Guardian Cat Lucasta (Humanoid)

This made no sense, and yet it seemed so real.

But Lucasta knew that things were not always as they seemed.

Still, the image of Ganymede in a pool of her own blood, with the remnants of carnage all around them… Lucasta could not so easily ignore it. It was a horror — one of so many. As much as she tried, she couldn’t look away. Even if it wasn’t real, she thought she should burn it into her memory as a warning.

If they were not careful, this could easily come to pass.

Lucasta shifted forms. She grew in size, lost most of her fur, but kept her tail and ears. The attire she wore was not suited for a place like this. (Truly, it wasn’t suited for much of anywhere.) Blood seeped through her stockings as she sat upon the ground, legs folded beneath her. She took Ganymede’s steadily weakening form into her arms and held her.

“You should run,” Ganymede said, voice barely above a whisper. “Leave. It’s not safe here.”

“I won’t leave you,” Lucasta said.

She looked around for the others, but saw no sign of them, yet she was almost certain they were there somewhere.

Ephesus!” she called out. “Amarynthos!”

Could they hear her? Could they see?

Ephesus, Squire of the Moon

Ephesus could see the blood, could feel it soaking into his own clothes, and he sobbed a little harder knowing how injured Alastor was.

But-- for them all to be gone?? He didn’t remember what happened. Had he blacked out? And Alastor didn’t mention Amarynthos.

“We need to protect the Core! We need to wait for Mary -- Dad, wait. Dad!” he tried getting his attention, even as Alastor was trying to pull him away from the Core.

It didn’t make sense. Why would he want to leave the Core. And even if the others were-- even if the others were gone, what about Mary?

“Let me heal you. Just rest a little bit, please,” he cried. “You’re not thinking -- Dad, we’re safest here while we figure something out!”

He looked wildly around, desperate to catch sight of Amarynthos. He had to be alive somewhere --

Ephesus thought he heard his name. Like a whisper. Or a thought.

Their earrings!

He’d given Amarynthos his earring, but didn’t put the one he wore on yet, not wanting to run out the battery it seemed to have. It only lasted a short while. And he didn’t know if Amarynthos was even wearing his but --

Quickly, Ephesus plucked the earring out of his vest pocket and clipped it to his ear.

Mary! Mary, where are you??

He refused to leave without him. His heart wouldn’t be able to take just leaving him there.

Kyuseisha no Hikarix

Alastor looked tired. He was pale, and his weight seemed to increase as he leaned against Ephesus. “I’m thinking clearly,” he insisted, but it was strained, and tired, and–

Effie?’ Amarynthos asked, and there was something like a hesitant, guarded tone in his voice.

I guess you’re not right in front of me. Where are you? I can’t see you. I’m right here, I’m right where I was standing. I mean–maybe like a foot behind me. You–you’re not hurt right now?

He sounded quick and rushed as he spoke. ‘There’s a you right here. He looks and says everything I think you’d say. He’s just–he’s hurt. Is it not you? I hit my head but I don’t think I’m hurt too bad, are you okay?

Valhalla, Transcended Knight of Jupiter

Valhalla knew this was Chaos. There was no way Jet could be there. But why did it feel like he was really fighting a General King?

Or maybe he was that weak of a fight?

Valhalla gritted his teeth, still frustrated that Valkyrie was diving for Jet with talons, but not using her lightning. It was true that he was close enough that he likely would have been shocked by the bolt too, but --

Was that it…? Was that why she wasn’t using her magic?

Valhalla was breathing heavily. He had a cut down his arm and side from Jet’s weapon. He couldn’t use his other magic with Kyrie out, but… what if she wasn’t using her magic because there were others still close by? Ganymede had been right next to him before. And the Moon Squires. And Lucasta. Where had they gone? Were they all there but unable to be seen?

Ganymede!” he called. Desperate. Pleading.

As Jet teleported forward with his weapon raised and ready to land a fatal blow.

Guardian Cat Lucasta (Humanoid)

Lucasta received no response, just more of Ganymede’s rattling breaths.

“They’re gone,” Ganymede told her.

Tears glittered in her eyes. Lucasta looked at her, studied her face, brushed some of her matted, bloody hair away. She could’ve easily been real. She felt real — a physical weight in Lucasta’s arms. The scent of blood seemed real. Knowing how dangerous this world was, Lucasta had allowed room for error. She’d been confident, but she hadn’t been certain they would succeed. Among them all, only Alastor had dealt with this specific Chaos before. Anything could happen to them.

This could be reality.

And yet…

And yet…

Lucasta did not want to believe it.

---------------------------------------

Princess Ganymede

Ganymede turned to look, but the hands on her shoulders held her tight. They squeezed gently, demanding her attention. She met the man’s eyes again, watching, waiting, but all he did was study her, searching deep into her own gaze, like he expected he might find Liesel somewhere within her.

His frown deepened. His features shifted again. His hair lengthened and darkened. His eyes changed from periwinkle blue to olive green. His face, once clean shaven, suddenly bore a gark goatee. His black clothing and jeweled collar of office became a green tunic and golden armor — like Chris’s, almost, but more severe to better suit Serge’s temperament.

Ganymede looked at him, too, greedy with a longing she knew from Liesel’s memories.

“Why Serge and not my husband?” she asked.

Perhaps if it had shown her Valhalla as he was in this life, if it had posed as someone she knew to be alive, and put on a convincing enough act, she might have fallen for it. But it chose the dead, and she could not determine why.

“You see your husband every day,” Serge said.

His hands slid from Ganymede’s shoulders down her arms. He took her right hand with his left, raised it, and laced their fingers together, palms pressed against one another. Her glowing, phantom scar aligned with his scar of flesh.

“I’m not Liesel,” she reminded him.

“No,” he agreed. “But you remember what he felt. You feel it, too.”

It was there within her memories. Love. Devotion. Fear. Desire. Sadness. Sometimes Ganymede felt them so strongly she thought they could be her own, but she knew they were only an echo of a time long gone. Serge was dead. Liesel was dead. Their starseeds belonged to Chris, and to her. They would not be Serge or Liesel again, no matter what they remembered, no matter what emotions their memories might bring them.

Ganymede!

A smile twitched onto her face. She brought her free hand to Serge’s cheek, touched him tenderly, like Liesel would have.

But it was no more substantial than a dream.

Ganymede jerked away. She pushed him from her; Serge went crashing into the wall with a heavy stumble, weighed down by armor. Free from the distraction, Ganymede summoned her crystal.

The Core was close. She did not know what effect her magic might have on it, or what effect it might have on her magic. It seemed to her that, even in attempting to battle the Chaos, she should remain cautious. She should try to lessen the hurt she might cause, at least until she ran out of options and had no other choice.

Ganymede drew upon the deep well of power within her and pushed it outward, through her crystal, the way she did when she eradicated the Chaos from someone’s starseed.

She would burn it all away if she could.

Ganymede’s magic sparked something strange in the Chaos, but more so the Core. It hadn’t been corrupted and there wasn’t a way to purify it, but it seemed like the Core was an active participant in this fight. Her magic pulsed through the air and the Core responded.

It was bright already, but the extra power made it surge to life. The golden liquid swirled about quickly, like there was a sudden current brought to life. For a moment, it didn’t seem as though there were fireflies, only sparks.

But that wasn’t all her magic did. The light from the Core was a spotlight in its own, but the marks on Ganymede herself seemed to glow brighter, too–or, maybe the chaos was just more sensitive.

In the room, the five of them had been separated into their own little rooms–illusions, formed by shadowy walls so thick they obscured sight and sound. Her magic burned through them; the walls thinned so much that it was easy to see the shadowy forms nearby. The light from the Core was bright enough that their silhouettes were illuminated clearly on the thinning, shadow walls. A few of the make-shift walls were so struck by the sudden magic that little holes burned into them, and no matter how quickly it tried to repair itself, it was a losing battle.

The shadows became brittle and rigid, and some of it turned to dust and faded before the shadows could recuperate.

But the walls weren’t the only things effected.

The shadow manifestations had been almost real before, but the pure, raw blast of energy made it almost impossible for them to keep their form convincingly. Sometimes, the light touched them and burned right through them, dissolving anything it came in contact with. Sometimes their skin just seemed to melt, or their faces warped into a sick amalgamation of people. Sometimes, the shadows tried to reclaim the illusion and draw it back into itself. Sometimes they looked wispy and ghostlike, transparent and broken.

Only one thing was the same for all of them:

The shadows had lost the advantage.

And, now, they were retreating from the Core while they trembled and squirmed and tried to regain their strength.

Ephesus might have heard Amarynthos, but he saw Alastor stumble backwards in pain. When the light hit him, it cut like a knife across his skin. More blood spilled, and he looked betrayed.

Quietly, weakly, he tried to keep the boy’s attention on himself. He swayed on his feet. “Atticus,” he said whispered. “...I need help.”

Just a few feet from Ephesus, Amarynthos’ silhouette appeared. He raised his hand to the tattered shadow wall between them and pushed against the sticky, leathery barrier.

He’d seen Ephesus. He was going to take his chances and guess that this was the real one.

Quote:
Characters can use this opportunity to have a clarifying moment that allows them to break through the spell of Chaos! If you are playing your own chaos manifestation, it may turn into a mirrored reflection of itself, or may shift forms in front of you; if you have any questions or want to see if something works, please let me know! If your chaos manifestation is not destroyed by the post on the 16th (sometime after 8PM EST) the Chaos will be forcibly destroyed around you. If you defeat your Chaos before this prompt, you can attempt to defend against the shadows creeping towards the Core, or try to reunite with the others!

Valhalla, Transcended Knight of Jupiter

Jet flinched backwards when the pulse of magic from Ganymede’s attack and the light from the Core filled the room, his weapon missing Valhalla and instead clattering onto the floor.

It didn’t matter, because after taking a moment to hiss and shield his eyes, he recalled the weapon to him.

But Valhalla was already taking that opportunity to charge the false General King. He shoved him backwards with the length of his staff, away from the others whom he could see the silhouettes behind the walls of Chaos.

If Kyrie couldn’t get a clear shot because she didn’t want to injure anyone else, Valhalla would simply make room for her.

Jet snarled and grabbed hold of the staff. He was strong too, and yanked the weapon away from Valhalla.

But Jet was now far enough away from the others, far enough away from the Core, and holding up a lightning rod.

With the last few seconds of her magic, Valkyrie discharged all of the lightning energy she’d been holding back on Jet, who screamed out in rage and disintegrated back into the shadows.

Ephesus, Squire of the Moon

Even though Ephesus knew now that Alastor wasn’t real -- he’d seen the way the light changed, and saw how the areas around him looked like they were being blocked by some kind of barrier, preventing them from seeing each other -- he didn’t want to see Alastor hurt.

He let out a horrified cry upon seeing Alastor stumble backwards, blood spilling and staining his clothes. Tears fell down Ephesus’ cheeks and he was racked with sobs as he watched Alastor sway and heard him whisper for help.

Ephesus had seen the way the Chaos took the form of loved ones. How it took the form of Percy for Alastor. But it didn’t make seeing Alastor in pain any easier.

“I’m sorry, I’m so sorry,” he cried as he wrapped his arms around himself -- around his chest that was stained with Alastor’s blood.

I need you, Mary. I can’t-- I can’t help him. He’s not real.

It wasn’t exactly what he’d wanted to say. He wanted to tell Amarynthos that he was okay and was near the Core. Instead, he thought about what he was seeing. How he could see Alastor covered in blood and with the light of the Core on them both, hoping it was enough. He wanted to get to Amarynthos to make sure his head injury wasn’t too serious, and to heal him, but he felt rooted to the spot as he watched Alastor dying.

And with how Amarynthos sounded, Ephesus could only assume that he was pretty upset about seeing him hurt as well.

'It's not me, Mary. Whatever you see, it's not me. I'm not hurt.'

Kyuseisha no Hikari
PostPosted: Sun Oct 16, 2022 10:31 pm

Something pure, something powerful surged through the area again.

At first, it was a wild blast of magic, strong and destructive.

The chaos in the air drew back significantly, like it was recoiling in pain. Stretched thin from the blast of Phantasia’s Court Magic at the West Gate, and battered already by the forces within the Hall, its hold was weakening. The illusions faltered; the walls between everyone came down.

The chaos manifestations evaporated.

But it wasn’t just that the Chaos was losing its foothold, it was that they were getting a second wind. A Royal Senshi’s signature flared, and then Ida’s Royal Magic spread in all directions and gave every Order ally a boost of strength. They weren’t completely revitalized, but it helped restore some of the energy they’d lost.

It helped focus them.

As the Chaos manifestations lost form, it became crystal clear–they still had something they needed to do.

With the shadowy walls down, they could all see each other again. A little worse for wear, but alive. Thin tendrils of shadowy darkness clung to the walls but it looked like it was torn between trying to slide past them or retreating.

The Hall groaned around them, and the storm raged outside. All of their lighting seemed to have lost much of its potency. The flames were nearly burned out, and the lights were flickering badly. The shadows tried to creep back into the roof, into the cracks in the wall or the broken ceiling near the roots. It was enough to buy them a few seconds’ reprieve.

There was nothing to separate the groups from each other–and yet, the chaos was still smothering. It retreated, but the walls were still rumbling. Everything that had made it into the Hall already was coming, now. There was no second chance after this, there was just this--and if it couldn't take the Core and change the tides of the battle soon, it was going to lose this world.

When the walls came down, Amarynthos could see Ephesus; the only mercy was that the pale, badly bleeding illusion of Ephesus was gone before he could see it, too. But Amarynthos saw the Alastor and for a split second looked horrified to see him in that state, but–

It was an illusion, too.

Alastor screamed, in what sounded like pain and grief and rage. He lost form and seemed to melt into the ground, and the dark shadows slithered straight towards Ephesus.

Amarynthos moved quickly; he bolted over and picked up the other Moon Squire. Maybe it was adrenaline, or the boost in strength he got while powered up, or just because they’d been separated for so long, but Ephesus felt light in his arms. “I’ve got you, it’s okay. You’re okay.”

It was for himself as much as it was Ephesus. He held his weapon firmly in his hand and kept his back to the Core–and tried to keep close to Ganymede.

The chaos was churning on the ceiling–collecting again. Growing stronger.

The Core was churning quickly, desperately; it shined as brightly as it could, but even that wasn’t enough to chase away the gathering shadows above them.

Quote:
The chaos manifestations have been destroyed; if you are playing your own you can write out how you want them to disappear or assume they exploded in a burst of black shadows. There is heavy residual chaos in the area–and the handheld chaos readers are all going wild. Characters can locate the chaos anomaly in the area and attack it to correct the disruption. A Court Attack has been unleashed on the battlefield and done heavy damage to a wave of shadows trying to breach the wall, and Ida’s Royal magic has given everyone an energy boost; due to the fluctuations of magic in the air, it can physically restore a character or restore some previously used magic. The closing prompt will be some time after 8PM EST on the 18th and will lead to an optional closing ORP!

Princess Ganymede

The illusions dissolved. Serge, already disintegrating, his features distorted, shifting from his own into those of others, then back again, faded from view, his strong, stoic figure collapsing into shadow. Ganymede felt the loss with an aching heart. Her memories of him threatened to rise with Liesel’s emotions, but she forcibly repressed them. Later, perhaps, she would mourn him, but not now.

The Chaos was weakening. Perhaps from her own magic. Perhaps from that of others. Perhaps from Alastor succeeding elsewhere. Whatever the case, Ganymede looked into the shadows and experienced a flare of eagerness — rare these days, when she thought of how hopeless the war had become.

This was their chance.

She looked to the Core briefly, wary, still, of harming it. The Core was strong, bright. It had already resisted Chaos for so long. To Ganymede, the golden light seemed friendly, supportive, alive.

She spared one last look toward the others, assuring herself of their condition.

When she pushed outward with her power this time, the burn was not the healing light of purification, but an unseen, destructive blaze. She drove it into the shadows, incinerating the darkness.

Quote:
Ganymede Crystal Power: All targets within 150 ft of Ganymede find themselves overcome by a sense of desire that manifests physically as a painful heating of the body. The heat becomes so strong if feels almost as if their blood is boiling, like they are burning up from the inside. Targets include all those infected by Chaos, as well as those of Order who have ever given into their bloodlust and committed murder. The sensation lasts a full 30 seconds. Targets are likely to feel weak and disoriented afterwards.

Guardian Cat Lucasta (Humanoid)

The illusions faded, the walls around them came down, and Lucasta stood to her feet, none the worse for wear but anxious to ensure the others were still in one piece. Ganymede was there, alive and strong, not lying dead as she had been in Lucasta’s arms, only moments ago. Valhalla seemed to have had a rough time of it, but he was not in any mortal danger. The boys were there, too, just by the Core — frightened, but alive.

Lucasta returned to the boys and took up a defensive position near them, wary of the Chaos which still lingered. That it had weakened seemed evident, but it still posed a threat, churning dangerously. It could grow stronger if they allowed it to. It had not yet given up on the Core.

But Ganymede had her crystal ready, and Lucasta had faith in her.

Valhalla, Transcended Knight of Jupiter

Valhalla picked up his staff once Jet was gone, and Kyrie returned to her home in the pocket watch at his side. He’d experienced worse, but was relieved to see that the others seemed to be uninjured.

He wrapped his wounded arm with his cape, and made his way over to where Ganymede was. He placed a supportive hand against her back, hoping she would know they were there to help however they could.

Ephesus, Squire of the Moon

Ephesus wanted to use his magic to heal the wounded Alastor, but he knew it was just Chaos. It didn’t stop him from crying in horror and despair as the illusion screamed and melted. Ephesus crumpled to his knees, frozen to the spot, his hands over his face --

But Amarynthos was there, picking him up and holding him close.

He clung to Amarynthos like his life depended on it, and sobbed into his shoulder with his arms around him.

Ephesus knew that Valhalla, Ganymede, and Lucasta were there, too. And they were so close to the Core, but he still felt devastated, watching Alastor turn into nothing but shadows.
