They didn’t have to wait too long, but he did have time to emphatically eye roll before the Mother appeared to stack a few more water weeds on her nest. She was a fine beast with good lines and powerful limbs.
“Looks good enough to me, good back, powerful musculature and big, therefore she probably had a great mate too.”
Snaptrotters preferred to mate with the dominant bull in the area. “Chances are he was big too.”
She was pretty a teal and sky blue. “Remind me of Aunty Nin somehow.”

"Well go on! Distract her so I can get her eggs!" She hissed at her cousin. "Hurry up! I don't want the sun to set too early!"
She had been practicing being demanding, between grandma, aunty Kina and Mother she felt like she had gotten quite good at it..also Daddy. Daddy was also demanding.
She made shooing gestures with her hands to move him along. Males were so slow!

He grumbled but he did rustle the bushes where he could climb up easily out of reach in a tree. Safety first was what his father had always taught him. Snaptrotters were as a rule highly dangerous just as janarim were, making them great mounts for those who had earned their trust and this female was magnificent as she marched herself over grumbling and hissing. He could relate his cousin made him feel the same way.
"Don't worry old girl we will take good care of your babies" She really was beautiful with a perfect unmarred hide and all of her cone like fish catching teeth. Up close he couldn't help but utter a "Crikey!"

She sank her hand into the mound. Reveling in the moist savagery. Snaptrotters were purportedly more ancient then her own people and she felt ancient herself when her hand closed around the leathery shell of an egg. She filled her shirt, her reasoning was that she had no self control. But when next would she get this chance!
She scuttled out with a full shirt. There were no eggs left but the female still had time, besides more of her eggs would survive this way so she was doing her a favour.

It was a somewhat nerve wracking row home, with the large robust female headbutting their boat the whole way home. She was tired and hungry by the time they got there though. He offered her food and got her into a pen. Her eggs were safely incubated and Kechiri and he got to reap the rewards.
"Thank you," he told her. "You helped me decide what I want to do for a living and I was not sure."
He even gave her a hug, and she liked it he was sure though she made a show of not liking it.
