“It really is.” She agreed as a comfortable silence fell between them.

Eleonora laced her fingers behind her and rocked back on her heels. “Someday I will take you there, I promise.” So long as he still had the desire to go with her, after she had a chance to make sure it was safe for him, Antisana would probably be the first person she brought along, if not him then Alcor but her sister didn’t handle heat well here on Earth. She could only imagine what it would do to her on another world.

“You know-” Her voice trailed as her attention turned from the stars to the man standing beside her.

“It’s ok to ask for help.” A do as I say not as I do kind of moment but it was something she was learning as well. “Your wonder is your sanctuary, your safe place away from the youma. What’s happening to it- I don’t think anyone has an answer as to what’s going on. But if you feel uncomfortable or uneasy going there alone, you’re more than welcome to reach out to me.” Even before their chance encounter, Eleonora had a love for going to other worlds and wonders. Rarely did she have a chance, but when offered she never turned it down.

“Or even like tonight, if you just want company-” Eleonora could feel the heat rise in her face and was glad for the dim lights that cast her features in harsh shadows rather than expose her pinkish features. “I’m rarely ever so busy in the evenings that I can’t stop what I’m doing to meet up.”

“My sister is still getting used to the idea of being more active. However, she’s still overprotective and cautions me when I go out alone. At least if I’m out here with you, she’ll have less reason to fuss.” Granted that meant that Eleonora had to lie by omission to her sister and not tell her about the youma attacks that plagued Antisana, even in civilian form, more often than anyone she’d ever met.

At the very least she’d feel like she had a purpose instead of aimless wandering hoping to find someone in need of help. Youma were at least easier to deal with and she felt no remorse for killing them; whereas agents and corrupts were another story entirely.

He hoped it didn't seem as though he meant to pressure her. It was true that Antisana undoubtedly enjoyed seeing the other galactic namesakes of fellow senshi and knights on Earth, other places free of Chaos, but if Eleonora didn't feel any connection to her world, he hoped she felt no pressure for his sake. He didn't understand how she could not be enamored by it, but... that was her business. If she wanted to take him, he would feel privileged to accompany her, and if she wanted to go her entire life without, it was not his place to argue to the contrary. "If it pleases you," he murmured in quiet acquiescence. "I will be ready when you are."

If she ever was. And if not, he was still happy to share Antisana with her... Provided she was interested in seeing it again, which, given what they'd found there and the inhospitable nature of the caverns in general... Maybe he couldn't blame her if not.

His teeth caught the edge of his lip ring, worrying it for just a moment before Antisana gave a tight shake of his head in refusal.

"I would be a fool if I refused to acknowledge how this ends," he replied in a low rumble. Not just because of whatever currently infected his wonder, but this- Everything. He would only grow weaker and weaker as the attacks persisted. Maybe as he continued to sustain physical damage, maybe as lack of sleep or paranoia drove him to debilitating madness. This wasn't a situation that would improve as time elapsed, and if his haven was poisoned, it would only be exponentially worse. And that youma girl... He could choose to believe her or not, but even she had said she didn't know what there was to be done for him.

Why would he ask anyone else to get involved? Why would he ask anyone to endanger themselves? Why would he ask them to be close to him, if he only expected to be around for a little while longer? He almost wondered why he should even fight, if he had no leads for any kind of possible solution...

"I called you because I am too weak not to," he admitted, expression perfectly passive as he stared down the little walking trail ahead. "I recognize that there is no long-term change in the outcome regardless of whether I involve you- whether I ask for help or not. It would be kinder, more rational to not expose anyone needlessly. When you are around me, you put yourself in danger. I put you in danger when I ask for you to meet me..." Eleonora was stronger than him, with magic that actually could fight off monsters. But she was still only human. It wouldn't take more than one slip up from either of them for something to go very wrong.

His dark slate gaze slid over to her. "But I am selfish. I do feel peace to not be alone, and I do wish it was more than me fighting. It is just not fair to impose that burden on you, or anyone, as long as I can help it." It just happened that sometimes, like tonight, he longed for something besides that paranoia.

Relief at having a friend close. The peace of knowing he wouldn't fight alone this time...

“It’s not a weakness to ask for help.” In her heart, she knew that he wasn’t the kind to abuse that kind of request. His care and consideration of others and their safety often left this sort of plea as a last resort. Even on his wonder, Antisana exhibited a generous amount of care for her comfort while almost reluctantly accepting help for his own injuries.

“You claim to be selfish but I think it’s more the contrary. You care about everyone else enough to not get them involved where I know that there are people out there that will run into a crowd to save themselves. However, you lead the danger away.” His request to meet out here where there would be fewer people walking around, or homeless camps nearby, was one such example as was the whole ordeal with the Pixie-like youmas. “You’re more considerate than you give yourself credit for.”

Eleonora slipped her hand through his and leaned her shoulder against his. She gave it a reassuring squeeze to emphasize her statement. “Believe me when I say you’re not a burden.”

“It defeats the purpose of having magic like mine if I don’t use it to protect people with it. Just because you’re powered as well doesn’t mean you’re exempt. Patrolling alone may be freeing, but being with someone is safer. Plus,” she lifted her head from his shoulder and looked up at him with a genuine smile. “I don’t mind going after youma. They’re more predictable than their agent counterparts.”

Feral beasts had one objective- Attack, devour, destroy. Simple-minded creatures that were easy to figure out.

A brief moment of silence lingered between them.

“You might think me weird for saying this but… sometimes I feel like song lyrics are better at articulating my feelings than when I try to explain them.” Eleonora’s gaze flitted downward to rest upon their linked hands. She hesitated for a second or two before taking a small step away and raising his arm to then duck under it so it draped across her shoulders all the while hoping he didn’t suddenly pull away.

Then- she started humming.

“♪Lean on me-” Elenora began singing quietly, completely skipping over the starting verses and going straight to the chorus. “♫When you’re not strong. And I’ll be your friend…♪” She nudged him almost playfully with her elbow. “I’ll help you carry on…♫”

“Heh- sorry. I probably just made this really awkward.” A sweep of pink rushed across her face as she turned to look away from Antisana so he couldn’t see how embarrassed she now felt. “I guess what I’m trying to say is that, I understand the dangers and it’s ok to call me for help, or if you just want company for a while.” In truth, there really doesn’t need to be a reason other than just not wanting to be alone.

“If you’re exhausted and need to rest, but can’t go to your wonder, I’m more than willing to patrol the area so you can get some sleep.” She could keep vigil either around the neighborhood or beside him; whichever he’d feel most comfortable with. Out here she had a wider sensing range than he did and while they stood around chatting she was not idle in remaining aware of anyone, or anything, that might approach them; civilians were much harder to detect but they were less of a threat to either of them.

"I know." And he did. Antisana didn't think himself weak for being unable to endure through every crisis. Such was human condition. His weakness wasn't wanting help; it was acknowledgment that there was no point to it and still seeking it anyway. If it was a situation where he could call her for one fight, and then they'd be safe for a month- or a week, or even a few straight days- Antisana would agree that it was worth it. There was value in her aid because there would be time to recover before the next. It would prolong his life to have help against monsters that weren't constant, but were at least consistent. Neither was the case now.

He could request her help, they could fight off the most immediate threat, she could go home, and then a few hours later he could be dead from the next fight. She couldn't be there for all of them, but any of them could kill him. It achieved nothing to ask Eleonora to be beside him, except put her in danger.

Antisana wished he had words to express this to her, wished she would understand the situation as he did- "The problem is there is no helping me in any significant way," he tried to explain. "Please try not to misinterpret it as ungratefulness: I am happy to have you. I am happy to fight besides you, and happy you answer my calls. ...But this is not sustainable for me; it would not be sustainable for you if you wanted to 'help' every time there was a threat."

He could admit that it was not distinctly out of concern for her wellbeing, or the wellbeings of anyone else.

He would have left Maya to fend for herself if he'd been confident the youma would take her life 'instead of' as opposed to 'in addition to' his. He could be immensely selfish if he saw gain for it. If he could give this curse to someone else, he would. Antisana would be perfectly content to let it be someone else's burden. But he couldn't give it away, and if the choice was between losing his one life or losing his one life plus a pile of others losing theirs, it seemed wasteful to choose the latter.

This was just... efficient, he supposed.

But he definitely would achieve nothing by explaining that to her, besides maybe a judgmental look.

And he didn't want that. He didn't want anything that would cause her to think less of him. Antisana squeezed her hand in return as it fit into his.

"At least that much is true," he agreed as he allowed his chin to rest against her head. "They are predictable in the sense they attack more than anything else." Maya had been right that the talking ones seemed few and far between. It had obviously been a fluke to run into her before anything else. He'd not seen another speaking, thinking youma in nearly a year now... Antisana heaved a quiet sigh. "You should give me some kind of time-frame," he murmured softly. "If you are looking to fight youma-" As he expected some in the White Moon did actively patrol against the monsters hunting Destiny City's citizens. "-you can simply let me know how often you want to be involved."

The little twitch of his lips was some cross between a smile and a grimace. "I feel confident I could have something for you to do whenever you wanted a fight..."

And then she was ducking beneath his arm, swaying to her hums of something he'd heard in passing on the radio or television commercials before. And he wanted to, wanted to allow himself to rely on her. Antisana drew his arm around, tugging her from his side to stand in front of him as his other hand came up to settle on the small of her back. He hugged her to his chest, spending just one moment to familiarize himself with the scent of what he thought might be floral or beachy shampoo in her hair before he murmured, "I appreciate the gesture, really."

Much like her own actions, he moved without warning, tugging her gently so that she faced him before pulling her against his chest into a hug that felt more needed than he’d openly admit. Eleonora didn’t mind, felt no need to withdraw or pull away. Instead, her head turned, nestled in the crook of his neck comfortably as her free arm came up to rest against the strap across Antisana’s chest while the other came to rest upon the opposite hip.

Warm skin beneath her fingers. His heartbeat felt erratic as her own while his arms around her made her feel genuinely safe here beside him, if not needed for the brief moment they shared.

Eleonora’s eyes flitted shut as she settled into the tender moment. Platonic as it was, she returned the embrace for as long as he needed this connection.

What he said was true. If this was a daily, or even every-other-day, occurrence there would be no way she’d be able to keep up; they did not live, or patrol, close enough for her to be able to answer every call. Perhaps if she had a teleport like Corrupts, then perhaps that might be different. But as a White Moon Senshi, her ability to get around town was limited. Even Dark Mirror Senshi had methods of fast travel.

Still, she wanted to try to be there as often as he needed. “We can plan to meet once, maybe twice, a week.” She suggested.

Breathing in the scent of him she noted the lingering spiced scent of either Old Spice or Axe, something similar to those she guessed.

“If we turn the tides and hunt them instead. Then maybe-” Eleonora paused, tilted her head up to look into his handsome slate-blue eyes that weren’t much different than her own. “Maybe they will think twice before coming after you.” That, however, might be giving youma too much credit. To think they’d have the ability to think rationally instead of through pure feral instinct. “If something happens in between our meetings then at least promise me you’ll call.” Even if she couldn’t make it, perhaps there would be someone else close who could. It would just require a bit of networking on both their parts, but it might work.

Antisana couldn't actually remember the last time he'd hugged someone. It wasn't really a need on his radar: not something worth actively seeking, so it hadn't really occurred to him that it was something he could miss. But he'd been avoiding his friends and family practically since he'd realized it was unsafe for them to be around him. So pretty much any level of platonic intimacy was entirely out of reach. He'd carried Eleonora before. She'd held his hand. It wasn't just simple contact he was missing. It was... this. Being close and feeling safe and wanting someone else to feel the same.

Heavy lashes drooped shut. He tipped his head forward, tucking against the top of her head as his breathing steadied and heartbeat slowed beneath Eleonora's fingers.

"I do not mean to burden you," he murmured. And there was no denying that his presence in her life was certainly a burden, if it required arranging weekly meetings to destroy monsters and seeking out things to hunt before those things could cause problems. "But it would please me to see you more often," Antisana admitted. "Hopefully to do more than simply fret over youma..." But he supposed he wouldn't be picky if that was all that came of it.

One day he would like to not have this problem at all, but he hadn't yet figured out how to even search for a solution, let alone actually enact one. Hoping that it would just go away and things would return to normal hadn't really been that lucrative, yet. It felt ever more unlikely he'd be around for the next year to come.

He just didn't know how to do anything about it besides prepare himself as much as he was able.

The corner of his lip twitched up into a not-quite smile, though with his chin on the top of her head, she could hardly see it. "A page and a senshi scaring off infinite droves of mindless beasts?" He offered, tone low but light. "There must be hundreds of them." He'd never seen the same one twice, but he'd also never seen more than one youma at a time. The pixies they had faced had several bodies between them, but Antisana was fairly certain they were one entity with one have mind. No individualization. They were just monsters. He didn't know if they could learn. If they could be afraid. Didn't know how they spawned or what drove them besides "Chaos."

Eleonora probably knew more about it than he did. He was tempted to agree with her because he had absolutely nothing to lose.

...Besides maybe the girl in his arms. "We will see about facing them," he decided after a moment, giving her shoulders a little squeeze, and- laying a quick kiss to the crown of her head (he didn't know what compelled him, but it was done before he'd even rationalized it). "But I do promise I will call if there is ever something I feel you should be updated about." He'd already been in bad situations before. It had happened that in every instance where he'd nearly lost his life, someone was there to prevent it.

He expected it wouldn't happen that way forever. If she wanted to know when things were... going downhill, maybe the least he could do was inform her.

So that she would know, rather than always be wondering.

With the gentle press of his lips to her forehead, Eleonora leaned back slightly and looked up.

Her slate-grey eyes met his own for what felt like a long moment as she considered the gesture. A slight tilt to her head, gaze wandering to his lips wondering if it was something she was expected to return in kind or if it was a motion to help put her mind at ease.

In truth, she did feel comforted by it- and his arms around her as he held her close. Eleonora felt safe with him, by him- despite the youma dangers.

There were no words to describe what exactly it was she was feeling. This shy yet almost twitterpated feeling and yet an absolute calm. Time locked in a moment that might not ever have a chance to happen again and yet she pulled comfort from it for what it was. Turned her head, tucking it under his chin where she rested against his collarbone.

Eleonora’s eyes closed, breathing in deeply- memorizing this spiced scent that clung to him, the warmth and comfort with how almost natural this felt despite feeling unusually foreign at the same time. Calm in the air had settled around them and Ele was not quite ready to let go yet-

“I will hold you to that promise, Antisana.” Her tone, though quiet, carried a weight of finality and truth to it. But, rather than poke him in the side as she would have done with anyone else, she shifted in his arms, rose up on her toes just a fraction of an inch, and returned his early gesture with a brief kiss of her own against his strong jawline.

“I will have your back, that much I can promise you in return.” always being there wasn't a feasible option since their lives and homes were spent a distance apart but should he call, Eleonora would find a way to get to him.

Shanyume

It was not fair of him to have such expectations of a girl he had met only once before.

His heart wanted to argue that it didn't matter how well they knew each other. By virtue of what they were- senshi and knight- they shared a common enemy. Defeating youma and Chaos so that their world might come closer to peace was part of the job description. And if Antisana was dead, there would be one less knight to advance that goal. Of course she would offer to help him.

But his mind wanted to insist that it simply wasn't possible, and he gained literally nothing from dragging her into this. It wasn't like she could always be there. It wasn't like she could stop them from hunting him. It wasn't like he wouldn't eventually fall to them. And when he did, how would she feel? Antisana could only hazard a guess, but her promise of 'having his back' made him feel like guilt was likely to be top of the list should he expire. Guilt, remorse, maybe rage, sorrow. Nothing positive. Why would he wish that on someone?

...Besides the whole... 'not wanting to be alone' thing.

"I am happy I messaged you," Antisana admitted, resting his chin on the top of her head once more. "I felt... truly awful, earlier." From the strange visions that had invaded while he'd been speaking to his mother, from her expressing how much she wanted him to visit again, and from him feeling like regardless of how much he wanted it too, he just couldn't. He couldn't endanger his mother... But he could endanger Eleonora, he supposed. He wanted to scoff at the selfishness.

I have always felt a little distant from most people." He wasn't 'peppy' or 'fun.' He didn't reach out to people to arrange activities. He liked still and control and peace, so he wasn't... 'the vibe' for most people. "But even still, I have never felt alone like I do because of this. I have never felt unable to seek the comfort of my friends and family like I do now." Heavy lashes dipped closed and he sighed softly. "I am less worried of the lonliness, knowing you will answer when I call. Not to put any expectation on you, I hope."

“It’s ok if you do.” Eleonora sensed that he was rational enough to acknowledge that at the end of the day she was still human, still had a job and responsibilities. That time and distance were real for them; unlike the agents and corrupts that could teleport places with nothing more than a simple thought or an idea of where they wanted to go.

“That loneliness…” she started then abruptly fell silent for a short spell to gather her thoughts. “I think that feeling resonates a lot with others who, like us, have an identity to keep secret.” Chaos included, not that she cared if their lives were uprooted but their poor decision-making. “I don’t know the circumstances in which you were brought into this war, but the Mauvian who had awoken my sister had managed to convince her that she couldn’t trust even me."

Such an absurd idea to put into Alcor’s mind but what made it all worse was that she took the words to heart and said nothing for literally years. "For the sake of protecting me, she pulled away only to find out a couple of years later that both her ex-boyfriend and I were Senshi as well...” A true shame because the three of them could have made for a great team; not that she would ever consider replacing Athene or Liryn.

“Just my opinion. But I think it’s easier to open up and make connections with others if you’re able to meet them like how we did.” Preferably without the youma but circumstances what they were, the likelihood of their absence was slim; even now it felt like they were on borrowed time. “There’s less risk. I think- in sharing your civilian identity with someone you would feel comfortable enough to fight alongside.”

Shanyume

It wasn't other White Moon senshi or knights that he had a problem opening up to. Even Eleonora he'd only met once a few months ago, and he was fine to let her have his number and know his struggles. He would be content to let her know his civilian name and where he lived or where he worked, and Antisana didn't think he felt any particular trepidation for letting any of his White Moon allies have the information. He didn't expect they would do ill with it.

It was that he wanted his family to know. He wanted the people he already had deep connections with to understand what he was going through. Probably for the selfish reasons of letting someone he loved fret over him, but maybe also because it felt like it would be easier for them after he was gone. Making new friends and new connections was fine... but not a replacement for the people he felt like he was losing.

But there was nothing for it. Antisana knew that. He wouldn't burden his friends and family with the stress.

He would just burden the random strangers already in the same mess.

"You are probably right," he murmured. "It is not what I enjoy doing." And it wasn't. He was not especially social, likely stemming from him not being very likable. "But barring other options, I suppose it is necessary. Thank you for being the one I could call tonight."
