“I- can definitely understand that.” Years ago she had seen a show on TV where the main character, a doctor, had a motto that patients always lie. After learning she was Maya, she definitely understood what that was. “It’s easier to lie to a nurse than to insurance.”

Her expression twisted into a grimace as she took in the damage to his vehicle. A shattered windshield would be the least of his worries when compared to the damage to the frame. These were just some small dents but deep scratches that creased the metal. “I might know someone who could help.” Jordan was more of a hobbyist with a mechanics license. He much preferred to work on older vehicles, but when it came to things outside the scope of normal wear and tear, he’d know how to fix it.

On more than one occasion she had laid her motorcycle down taking a turn too quickly where there was loose gravel on the road. While insurance wanted to declare it totaled, he had been the one to get it road worthy; granted, it took time since it was at cost; he didn’t charge her labor so long as she was helping. “I’ll call my friend and ask if we can have your car towed to his garage. In the meantime, you should let me take you to the doctor.”

“I know-” Piper held her hands up before he could protest. “ You don’t want to go and that all of this is a lot to take in. But that b***h pulled you through the windshield. You might have a concussion or whiplash, and I’d worry if that cut on your neck got infected.” Water only went so far in being able to clean a wound; at best it could remove most debris but there was still a chance that a sliver of glass had been missed. “The easiest lie is to say you were attacked by a drunk person.” It sucked, but this sort of injury couldn’t really be blamed on a cat.

“We can call an Uber to take us and come back for your car later. Or we can get my bike and I can take you. It’s parked maybe four or five blocks from here.” She’d have to turn on the Find My Vehicle app to figure out where it was since she was feeling kind of out of sorts and turned around. “I’m not going to leave you here alone, so let me know what you’d like to do.” Although Piper was certain that the youma-b***h wouldn’t be

Why should he have to lie? -No, he knew why he'd have to lie; because he'd sound like an insane person if he didn't. But there were about to be a lot of hoops to jump through over something that he'd had no control over. His car was effectively the last of his worries. He could borrow one of his parents' vehicles while this one was being taken care of. Or spend a couple grand on a holdover car if he had to. Indra didn't doubt that he had insurance good enough to cover this, regardless of what information he gave them. This was exactly what he was paying for. It was... just a matter of getting it sorted out.

More pressing than the state of his vehicle: "I think I have to call the police," he muttered. Because he'd run into a building. Property that was not his. Indra didn't know where the traffic cameras were, but he knew they existed, and knew that if they'd seen him and he just left the scene of an accident, that would further complicate things later.

-But that would also mean they could see the monster and validate that he wasn't insane.

Though if they saw him doing magicky s**t, like turning into another person, they also might think he had some hand in causing all of this. Or if they saw Maya- Piper- they might blame her or think they had something to do with any other 'attacks' or 'hallucinations' people in the city experienced. His brows pursed, shaking grasp tightening against the steering wheel as frustration started to seep in where there had been shock. He didn't know the way out of this, but it was easily the messiest thing he'd ever experienced.

But if she was like him- a page- and knew what those monsters were and how to face them, Piper must have had some kind of similar-ish experience. Indra was rationally aware that he shouldn't throw blind trust at someone he'd barely met, but they had survived a harrowing experience together, and he wasn't sure what was 'safe' for him to do here.

"I will... follow your best suggestion," he decided at length.

He did know that he didn't want to be left to try and sort throw everything by himself. It was a comfort to have someone with him, even just as a presence to solidify that this had actually happened, and Indra had to find his way through it, somehow.

Maya surveyed the damage to the building. Her lips pursed in thoughtful consideration before powering up for the briefest of moments. The uniform sleeve that was torn earlier had been magically repaired as were the runs in her thigh-high tights.

She shifted her weight from one leg to the other while rummaging through her subspace pocket for an item she had thrown in there and had since forgotten about. “Ah-” A smile lit her features as she withdrew a decorative, palm-sized, circular charm with an engraved button in the center. “This will at least help with the building.” Hard to explain how but he’d see soon though.

“I’ve never used one of these before so I’m kind of curious how it works.” Maya raised the trinket, pointed it at the building, and activated the magic within it. With her thumb, she held the button down firmly, watching as glass and building rubble lifted off the ground and snapped back into its original place like a deadly jigsaw puzzle. “Fascinating…” the bent window frame snapped back into place leaving no evidence that it had ever been damaged.

When the flow of dusty debris slowed, Maya let go of the charm and handed it to Indra to hold while she powered down. “One less thing to worry about. Wish I had another so I could use it on your car but at least this is one thing you won’t need to worry about for now.” Piper offered him a rueful smile knowing that his worries were only just starting to pile up on him.

Over the course of the next several minutes, Piper made a quick phone call to the friend she had mentioned who thankfully agreed to come pick up the car within an hour and tow it to his shop. No doubt she’d owe him a favor or two just to keep this off the books and not report it to insurance, but she felt mildly certain that Indra would pay the bill and not leave them both hanging.

At least she hoped he would.

“Jordan’s girlfriend, Leslie, is going to take us to the hospital.” She had at least had a vague idea of what they’d be walking into when they arrived and at least this way they wouldn’t need to worry about an Uber driver canceling the ride once they saw his face. Cleaning fees could get expensive especially when blood was involved. “Just need to sit tight for about fifteen minutes for them to get here.”

“You’ll be ok.” Piper knelt in front of him and placed a hand on his knee. “It’s a lot to take in but I’ll answer what I can.”

FIN!

He couldn't feel her there. Indra hadn't even realized that it was something he was waiting for until the sense was absent. Piper powered up briefly into Maya, and Indra couldn't feel that she was not a normal girl, just as he hadn't been able to before he'd touched the jar.

"I... I see," he murmured. There was a thrum he had felt when Antisana and Maya had been in the car together, maybe that sense she was trying to describe to him a few moments ago. And something instinctive said that he should be able to feel it while Maya was next to him again, even if he didn't completely recognize it or understand it the strange resonance of power. But it must be something only Antisana could feel.

Besides the missing sensation, he didn't know what she was actually doing, and he gazed mutedly at her as she retrieved some trinket from practically thin air. It was hardly the most surprising thing to happen in the past hour.

And then- "It is fixed," he breathed softly as his gaze roved after chunks of building and shattered glass fixing themselves back into place. That was most of his concerns alleviated just with that. So long as there was no damage done to anything besides himself and his own property, he didn't have to tell anyone who didn't already know. He didn't have to risk the trouble. He exhaled, and his shoulders sank, trembling hands falling from the steering wheel to rest in his lap. Indra might have asked why she couldn't just do it again, but as she passed him the used item, he had the impression that it maybe didn't have much magic left in it to do such remarkable things multiple times.

Once was plenty. Honestly, he couldn't ask for more. "I am very grateful," he told her, voice quiet with awe.

He imagined he would've died if she hadn't stepped in. Even if he'd been able to power up without her there, he still wouldn't have known what to do about it, wouldn't have known how to face the monster, wouldn't have had moments where the creature was too distracted with Maya to pay any attention to him. Certainly this building would still be damaged, if he'd even made it this far. Indra wouldn't be here without her, but he didn't know how to express the extent of his gratitude.

Maybe he'd order in the fanciest dinner he could think of. ...While they waited at the hospital. Not quite as enthused about that, but...

If Piper trusted these people, the friend who would tow his car and the woman who would take them to the hospital, Indra decided it was likely in his best interest to do the same, regardless of the wariness he felt toward strangers at the moment. Piper hadn't steered him wrong. Had only helped him, was only worried about him, was doing literally all the things he felt mentally incapable of handling, and he had said he would follow her best suggestion.

"I appreciate it," he replied eventually. "I feel- more prepared, maybe, knowing you are here. And I will do everything I can to make it up to you, somehow, someday." She had stopped to help him, when he knew he wouldn't have done the same. She stayed by his side when she couldn't easily left.

Indra reached to touch her arm with his fingers. "Everything you are doing... It means very much to me. I will never forget."
