She didn't want to listen. Kayde was disappointed. No matter how much he tried to tell her, to show her with his expression, that he really meant it this time, that she was worth all this, she just didn't want to listen. And he understood her reluctance. He wasn't sure he'd want to listen to himself, either.
He stood up with her, mimicking her movement and putting his own chair back in silence. The book caught his attention as he stood there beside her. He didn't read what was written there, but the picture of a dance pose wasn't hard to miss. So she was practicing dance? He longed to ask her about it, even opened his mouth to say something. If she didn't want to talk to him anymore, she hardly would answer inquires about this new hobby.
Instead, he looked at her watching the wall, balling a fist of determination in front of him. Call him stubborn, but Kayde would not let her attitude detour him.
"Just wait, Elka. I can do this."

All the Ice girl could do was give a tired sigh. She really didn't believe he could. Oh, she believed he thought he could, but Kayde staying in one place and doing a mundane job? Impossible. He'd never last. He wasn't made for city life. He'd always been so happy to travel around and see new things, meet new people.
"I'd really like to be alone now, please."

"Yes. I'm sorry. I'll go."
But still he hesitated, lifting a hand as if to touch her shoulder but pulling back. She didn't seem to notice as she continued to stare at the table top, now. A beautiful flower pot sat in the middle, filled with fake flowers in reds and yellows. After a few seconds, he turned and left. At the door, he turned around to look at her once more. Now her head faced the opposite direction, a clear sign she was shutting him out.

Elka was indeed trying to shut him out. She'd seen his hand move in the corner of her eye and kept her own body still, her hands tightening on the back of the chair. As he finally turned to leave, she'd moved her head aside so she wouldn't be tempted to watch him go. Hopefully for the last time so she could finally move on from this terrible time in her life. She had a plan on how to make things better for herself. Kayde would just complicate things more.

Seeing the resolve in the turn of her head, Kayde finally left the room, shutting the door softly behind him. Pamalaya was nowhere to be seen at the counter, of which he was grateful. He really wasn't in the mood to dodge her advances. He only wanted to return straight back to his wagon, see how much he did have stored away. He had a plan, too. And the determination to try and make it happen.
Words might be useless, but his actions wouldn't be. He'd show her one way or another. The next time he spoke to her, he'd have actual effort to show her.
