Himitsu made his way up the stiarwell to the Hokage's Office, folder full of documents in tow. As he ascended, he reflected on the amount of time he'd spent trudging up these same stairs on his way to one punishment or another for whatever out-of-pocket commotion he'd caused in recent days. It'd been years though since he'd had an outburst of any real note, largely thanks to his realization of the incredible patience Sadayo seemed to truly have for him. Pretty much every major infraction he'd had during that time could be traced back to difficult decisions made largely on his behalf for the sake of the village. It wasn't entirely fair to place all the blame on him, and so she'd taken mercy on him most days. At the very least, he'd been granted enough grace to turn things around in the long run. After all, here he was today, officially requesting the position of Headmaster at the academy.
Once outside the office, Himitsu waited patient for only a few minutes before he was ushered in. He closed the door behind him before he began. "Morning, ma'am." Himitsu stepped forward and handed Sadayo the folder he'd brought with him. "I'd like to request the open position of Headmaster of the academy. In there I've included performance reviews, recommendations, combat/mission records of former pupils, my last few years' syllabi, and a proposal to amend the overarching basic curriculum in the future. I think I've found some ways to make our lessons reflect the peace we find ourselves in, without sacrificing readiness for conflict." Himitsu paused for a moment to let the Hokage look over things and make considerations. "I also think that having somebody with my profession in this position could help spot early recruits. It never hurts to find early talent" Himitsu spoke with a relative vagueness, alluding to his blossoming career in the Spec Ops field. While he wasn't in any position to make recruitment decisions, having an eye out was still a useful prospect.

When he found Sadayo she was reaching through one very satisfying stretch with her arms high above her head. It must have been so gratifying to pull tense shoulders that even her hair puffed and compressed. She looked content to see him but it could have been the fact it was morning and the refresh of proverbial headaches had not yet thundered back into her scope. He relayed his reason, his ideas, proposal and she stood. Sitting was boring. “I hope your ‘snap’ drills are not included in that overarching proposal,” her dry wit questionably in play as she reached to accept the documents. There was a lingering moment’s glance that fixed on Himitsu after she made mention. A table, poised at the far side of the room, was present with a plush decorative pillow on it. A small, old black iron tea kettle bowled itself in its center.. The kettle’s lid shuffled with a heavy clunk and lifted just enough for a black band with two, gold eyes to squint out from. Small. Quiet and fixed on Himitsu. She paused. Quiet as she surveyed the collected content. “Do you think we can get away with implementing more cryptography?” Her proposal came with a hard gawk that was easily telling of how deep the question had its claws in her. Or stick with the current plan. "I mean they’re just kids but still.” It was a passing thought.
Himitsu didn't bother to hide the sheepish grin that crept onto his face when the Hokage asked her initial question. It'd been years since he'd evolved past the... rudimentary... training method, but they held a certain place in his heart still nonetheless. "No no no, those are strictly reserved for my students." As Sadayo shuffled through the paperwork he'd passed her, Himitsu slid his hands into his cloak pockets and let his eyes wander around the office lazily. The clunky rattling of metal on metal drew Himitsu's attention suddenly, one eyebrow rising slightly as he watched the tiny face rise from the teapot. The jonin locked eyes with the beast for a moment before Himi smiled at it. As Sadayo began speaking again, Himitsu drew his attention back to her as he bent down slightly and rolled a blank scroll onto the floor quietly. "Surprisingly, I think we can, yeah." Himitsu responded as he stood back up fully, blue and black chakra rapidly building up around the scroll as it rolled toward the table housing the teapot. "Kids are magnitudes better at learning new languages than adults, right? Obviously there's a gradient there, but you know what I mean. Anyway, I think the more we can present and teach methods of cryptography as its own language as opposed to a reconstruction of a language, the sooner and more effectively we can integrate it into the curriculum."
While Himitsu rambled on for a moment or two more about the finer details of implementing said plan, the chakra coated scroll took full shape. A tiny Matatabi strutted into form, the size of a small house cat, trotting over to the table and hopping up beside her brother. In recent years, the bijuu had learned to embrace the small aspects of free existence, like hunting small prey, people watching, and most importantly: getting a rise from others. The typically-regal bijuu locked her mismatched eyes with the golden ones peering out of the pot and smiled just. Just as she was certain the tanuki was about to speak up, she batted the lid of the kettle closed in front of his face. She repeated her efforts twice more before Himitsu shot her a glare from across the room, not thrilled with the excessive rattling she was causing, not to mention the inevitable outburst from her target. The bijuu relented and sat down beside Shukaku, opting to just occasionally flick one of her two tails past his face every now and then instead. "Good morning, brother." The bakeneko greeted the tanuki softly, her voice soaked in feigned ignorance.

”It's own language.” She monotonously echoed in a voice robbed of most inflection. the second clunk of the kettle averting her glance for a moment. She did recognize some of these dossiers on his former pupils. Not many. Some. A passing thought spared for the young man she once coordinated to receive a new arm. How malleable was a young person of his age to learning a new language be? “Maybe on the older students. Maybe.” The stringing thought hooked her focus. ”Flag signaling, maybe. Tap code would be a must.” Although, the more she fixated she got the mumbling began. ” In an organized setting it could be more enticing than whatever I've been trying.”
Matatabi's delightful antics of batting at the pot lid did not go without inciting disgruntled grumbles. The tanuki puffs— begrudgingly acknowledging her further with a grumbling, “Matatabi.” The tanuki kept his arm and legs tucked in to his snug little jar. A tail being the only appendage he let lop on the pillow.
“It might've been a good morning up until about ten minutes ago!” Before Himitsu arrived.“ But there's hardly anything decent about mornings to begin with.” In general, the tanuki is nocturnal by nature and the otherworldly Shukaku was not far off from the preferences of his worldly species. “Sadayo! Why do you take guests this early, huh?!” The miniature beast's complaints cut her concentration as her glance looked up, at nothing in particular, with a dry, notably tired look in her eyes.
Himitsu nodded along as the kage mused aloud. "The younger we can start them, the better. Actual application can wait until later on in their education, but I think laying the groundwork early is the key." Shukaku's gruff voice filled the room, the tiny bijuu making clear his time with Sadayo had not curbed his boisterous nature. Matatabi rolled her eyes at her sibling's complaints, continuing to flick her tails around him. "Mornings aren't so bad. You should try watching the early birds sometime instead of hiding in this... bowl." Himitsu smiled at her snark, and turned back to the hokage once more. "That said, I think my other major project is going to be our best bet. Early implementation and presentation is big, but realistically the biggest benefit we'll see from it is a general reduction in transmission errors and maybe a decent increase in code-breaking success-rate over time. Our best bet in finding and honing the skills of elite cryptographers, and all of our other specialty-types, is going to be in early focus testing on those specialized skills. The jonin gestured to a particularly thick stack of papers off to the side that had been bundled together for convenience.
"As part of a general reorganization, I'd like to start by implementing examinations of each student on over a dozen metrics to start with. Obviously early exams would be limited, as the skills and attributes they'll be able to present with be limited, but with education come more points to consider. With these statistics in hand, we can better survey for students with aptitudes for the rarer skills we need, and hopefully find those prodigies sooner than ever. I've included rudimentary actions plans for adjusting those students' education plans after basic education is completed, in order to- The sound of metal thunking around distracted Himitsu for just a moment. Back at the kids' bijuu table, Matatabi had let curiosity win over and began to lean against the metal pot, seeing how heavy it was to knock around.
