After they located a respectable Inn they ate and freshened up before heading out forr information. Acting on the advice they received they headed out to explore. This was what he truly lived for. Adventure. His blood was all but singing with it. Even the air tasted sweeter. Or perhaps it was the miasma reported to be in this place. Also the native Yaeli’s eyes glowed faintly, how trippy. He wished his own eyes glowed.

They were decently far away from town when they started to find animals sign. White chalky scat with small bones told him that they were on the right track. Pieces of shed skin and sinuous tracks supported his theory and he shared each sighting with both brothers. It was great training for Tethys.

Judging from all the signs they were getting close to their quarry. He noted that they had gone directly to the bush, not inspecting the market. He blamed the collective instinct to adventure in the bush. He wanted to be just like his Borthers. He wanted to be a beast charmer too. A hiss and a rattle made him grin broadly in anticipation. They were not alone.

He crept slowly to the log where the warning rattle was coming from.
“Guys hurry quick.” A female Keldari was curled around a nest of about 20 eggs. “Jackpot.” This was the best scenario. “Thallassa,.” He hissed.” Check for the male, I don’t know if they help protect the nest and I don’t’ want him sneaking up behind my while I’m dealing with his mistress’s business end.” He chose life. Venom did not sound particularly fun.

Ushi had found the first critter, damn. He had been hoping to be the first one, but from the looks of it, there would be plenty of keldari to go around, with some left for the Mama to raise. “Careful Teth,” he warned his brother before checking the perimeter as Ushi had asked him “Don’t get too close to her.”

He understood that it was dangerous. He just wanted a peek so he tugged on Ushi’s pantleg to be lifted up for a moment. “A female? With eggs?” Ushi hadn’t exactly been forthcoming with descriptive words. He sighed internally. He would have to fix that about his brother. He could be real helpful if he just bothered to try.

He smirked remembering when their father would life him up over the barm walls so he could see what his Mother was doing while she healed injured animals. He hoisted his little brother up for a look before he got started.
“Isn’t she beautiful?” It was a bright green Keldari with black stripes.
“There are about 20 eggs in there,” he said. “We won’t take them all since she is such a good Mom.”

He finished his circuit and returned. Taking Teth from Ushi so his brother could move the Mother Keldari and steal some of the eggs. He kept a good grip on Teth but was also ready to set down in a hurry if the snake became a threat to his other brother. “Watch carefully and don’t try this until you are way older.”

He watched the proceedings from Thal’s arms. The Keldari hissed its displeasure at her audience. How dare they approach her while she was brooding, she would bit them all if they got too close. “Its okay lady snake we will tak eht ebest care of your babies. They will all get good homes with our family. Don’t worry.”
He did his best to sooth the angry Mother.

Very slowly, very carefully he nudged the snake off her eggs using a forked stick like his Father had taught him. Once he eased her over he pinned her head and caught her gently but firmly where she could not bite him. “SO sorry my lovely, we won’t take them all, yes you are a good Mama I hear you.” With his other had he collected some eggs and put them gently in his pack. Once done he placed the mother right back beside her clutch.

Thal put Tethys down and accepted the backpack that had the eggs in it. He placed it gingerly over his own shoulders and nodded at the others. The snake recurled around her eggs. “She’s probably grumbling at us for disturbing her. We should leave her to her incubation duties and get out of here.” They would spend a night at the Inn and prepare for travel.

He couldn’t believe that it had been that easy. The mother snake seemed to be content enough with what was left of her clutch which was about half the size of what it had been. He was super excited and kept staring expectantly at the backpack that Thallassa carried as if the Keldari might emerge at any moment.

He let out an excited breath on the wallk back to town. He had done it, nothing had gone wrong as often happened with new wildlife. He sighed again, letting the rough trail work out the tension that all of the adrenaline had left her system. “Good job Tethys, you have proven yourself on your first outing keeping up with us.”

What was this? Such glowing praise from the sour puss. He smirked. Tethy s had done well though, he had kept calm and hadn’t wigged too much while Thal had been holding him, which had helped the whole operation.
“He’s right, good job little bro.” He smiled at Teth, who looked so much like himself. Well, besides Ushi’s spotty dotties. He hated when Thal called them that, so of course Thal mentioned it often.

Teth glowed from the attention. His brother’s had done this for him, but he was also pretty sure that they would want Keldari of their own. And who could blame them? The mother was so beautiful and he bet the hatchlings would be just as gorgeous. He was so happy and excited.
