"I just know how you like it exactly, and you really cannot beat this coffee press. So good." He sipped his own cup and felt life jolt back into his body. He was still in good shape but nothing kicked like coffee. He yawned to emphasize his point.
"You know I kind of like peaceful mornings, our chores are already done because there is not a zoo to feed. Maybe the kids can look after more at home and we can spoil ourselves just a little bit." They had built this from the ground up.

They carried on and had a leisurely breakfast. Then they went for a brisk walk, it was kind of how they read the newspaper of the desert in the middle morning. Bird calls, paw prints and other tracks littered the sand with interesting stories to tell.
"Its so beautiful out here, so harsh, I can see why you fell so hard for the desert so long ago."
Her heart ached for the lonliness he must have suffered. For years. She at least understood that part.

"And I am grateful that I get to share it with you now." He wrapped his arm around her and they drank in the sight of the desert, its beautiful but alarmingly prickly plant life and the fauna that made it come alive.
He had always wanted to do exactly this with the woman he loved. Now he was also in love with Matori. It too was home.
She was his oasis now.

"Awww, you always were pretty mushy 'yelt the desert obviously didn't manage to beat it out of you, but didn't you say it was the people causing you more stress out here. Those bandits that came after Sky's parents were the reason you stayed wasn't it?"
He had spent hours telling her about his adventures in the desert and sometimes she asked them from him when they were together and sometimes she told them to her children when he was away so that they would feel like he was close to them...and to her. She hated when he left most of the time.

"No one was able to squish my mushy bits, not for lack of trying though, but I had a lot of time and space to heal and then I got fed up moved to Matori and eventually married the most wonderful woman ever. The end. Happily Ever After."
It was only with those bits that someone could fully love as they were the bits that hurt when things went wrong in the heart.
