He moved a few things around, but continued, “You can make yourself comfortable. If you have work to do, I can clear off some of my desk for you, too. You don’t have to be quiet though, you’re good company. I can multitask,” he assured, just to make sure Kamacite knew he wasn’t worried about that. Worried about other things, always, and as he moved some of the things behind his desk he paused, opened a drawer–closed it–opened it again and fished around.
Everything was meticulously organized and stacked, so it was really just a matter of moving things until he found what he was looking for–a small, black box. It was flat, and only made of cardboard, but Axinite treated all things as if they were worthy of great respect.
“Do you want an excuse to take a break sometimes?” He pursed his lips and then glanced up at Kamacite before he presented the box. “I can’t hide the wings, but I think your robes do a decent job of that. The energy you give off is a bit of a strong indicator, I’m afraid. That, I might be able to help with. I haven’t needed this in a very long time, but. A long time ago, I used to play bait for my team. If things went wrong, I was the best choice to be in trouble. Even I could pass for a Captain. But. It’s been quite a while since I went out on any mission.”
He opened the box to reveal a medallion, and he looked at it for only a second before he pulled it out by the chain. He ran his thumb over the cool metal as if to wipe away dust, but there wasn’t any. It had obviously been taken care of before it was put away and hadn’t taken any damage since then, either.
“I’ve been told I need to clean out my desk, but. I’m sentimental. I don’t like to get rid of something unless it’s got a good place to go to, and. Well.”
Kamacite was either in the right place at the right time, or Axinite just trusted him enough that such things didn’t matter.
“Would you like to give it a try? It only works for a few hours, but. Maybe you could make some use of it?”
