"I see..." It reminded her of her own childhood when they didn't really leave the village in fear of the Obans finding them. At least that was better now, and it seemed like things must be better for Quiana's people as well. As the other girl's hand went out to stop her, Devika stopped quickly and observed what the other had stopped her from walking into. "Hmm, does it look very deep? I can't tell if there might be currents underneath or if it's just a pool of water..." She didn't really know any other way back to the camp but maybe Quiana did. "Are there any other paths we could take that might be safer?" This other girl probably thought she was a fool not wanting to cross a little bit of water, especially when they were here on the islands where most everything was water. [Devika 8]

Quiana winced at the question. "There are cliffs but it'll be hard to climb in this rain. I'd much rather swim before anything worse happens." She admitted even though she hated showing weakness to an earthling. She glanced towards the Matori woman with a sigh. "If I promise you that I'm a talented swimmer will that help? I will make certain we can get to the other side." Already the clouds were getting darker and darker. Even Quiana was worried about making it back before the cove completely flooded with the storm. It was strange though that someone from another island who had made it across the ocean seemed so wary of water. Quiana wanted to ask but she knew that they didn't have that much time to talk in the current moment. Later though for certain. She thought as she waited for the Matori's answer.

Climbing cliffs sounded like it was a good way to fall and break their necks with this kind of weather. Yet at the same time, she didn't really want to swim across it either. At the other girl's sigh, she had to try and repress her own sigh at her issues with water. Devi eyed the water wearily, she didn't want to get in there, she didn't want to take that chance. But what other options did she have at this point? She shouldn't have even left the camp but she had been hell bent on getting the things requested of her. She really wasn't sure if she should trust the Elidae, they weren't familiar, but again, what choice did she have. "Okay." Devika said in a small voice. She could see the other side, and as long as there were no currents underneath the water's surface she would be fine. "Here we go.." She whispered mostly to herself before carefully entering the small lake and starting her swim a cross, doing whatever she could to keep her anxiety in check. [Devika 9]

Of course the heavens wanted to test her words. Quiana would have let out a frustrated groan if she had the time, but instead the Elaria focused on swimming when the rains turned into a heavier downpour the blocked everything from sight. She was thankful they hadn't taken the cliffs since she wasn't worried about swimming even in this because they were so close to the other side, but a sudden rock slide sent rocks and dirt speeding down towards the waters that they were currently swimming through. Her green gaze gleamed with determination as she kicked her feet forward and darted towards the earthling woman. An arm latched onto Devika's own, Quiana having no time to allow her to slowly trek across the lake because of the new danger. "Hold your breath! Trust me!" She cried out against the rising wind and rains before pulling them both beneath the waters to avoid the brunt of the sharp rocks. Quiana was confident she could get them across if the earthling would trust her!

Devika had barely a moments warning before she sucked in as large a breath a she could before Quiana pulled them both underwater. Devi quickly found her panic rising. She couldn’t really see anything and had no bearing as to where they needed to go. She fought the instinct to flail around and fight for the surface instead feeling like a youngling trapped in a water tunnel. Her free hand found Quiana's that was holding onto her and used all her focus to try and stay calm, kicking her feet when she had the mental focus for it.

It was surprisingly peaceful beneath the surface of the water. Quiana felt almost peaceful despite the turbulent waves above. She felt the sudden grip on her hand and realization made her mouth press into a line of concern. Even if she was doing fine the earthling probably was not feeling the same way. At first she focused on tugging them around the larger shadows as the rocks continued to splash into the waters around them, but once they had swam a few feet further away the Elidae found herself rubbing a thumb over the earthling's hand almost comfortingly. Her own grandmother had done that a few times for her when she panicked in the past and she could only hope it would somewhat help the earthling. A few more kicks and Quiana found herself twisting so that she could emerge with Devika on the beach, her hand slowly letting go so that she could flip over on her back and inhale some fresh air. Well as much air as one could while the rain was still pouring down around them.
"Are you okay?" Quiana found herself asking as she twisted onto her side to study her the earthling. Thankfully they had dodged that danger, but unfortunately it blocked off their easier path back towards the earthling's encampment. Quiana frowned at the realization. The storm was only starting so they would have to find some other type of shelter soon.

Just when she thought her panic was about to bubble over and become uncontrollable she felt a soft rubbing on her arm. It must have been Quiana doing what she could to comfort her in their situation. If they weren't underwater with no idea how much longer they would be under she might have been embarrassed. Instead, she clung to that, becoming hyper fixated on just that small motion. All too soon it seemed like it wasn't enough, however, and Devika felt like her air supply was dwindling. After all this time and being careful around water this was still how it was going to end. Devi almost resigned herself to that fate when suddenly she felt the earth underneath her. Gasping and puttering she crawled further onto the land. She curled in on herself, her back protecting herself from the offending water falling from the sky. I'm out of the water....I'm out of the water....I made it....I'm okay.... She kept trying to reassure herself. Even as she heard the other girl's question she felt unable to respond for a few more moments. "I don't think so." She said softly yet mentally she had to remind herself that she wasn't dead, and that was the alternative.. "What...happened?" Devi asked slowly, her voice muffled as she was still not moving from her spot.

Quiana took her time to just laze on the beach, her chest moving up and down as she took a moment to calm her racing heart. So much effort for what was going to be my lazy day. She moaned silently towards the heavens before the earthling's faint voice caught her attention. The Elidae's antennae twitched before she finally shoved herself from the wet sand so that she could walk towards Devika. Brushing some of the damp sand and muck from her skirts, Quiana made a face before glancing back towards the earthling. "Misfortune." She replied with a frown. "The heavy rains made a portion of the cliffs collapse. If we hadn't gone underwater we may have gotten hit by some of the debris. The water saved us thankfully." She pursed her lips with a sigh. "Though that makes things a bit more complicated...can you stand? We can try to find shelter and ride out this storm. I don't think we're getting to any encampment not with that-" Lightning flashed above her and Quiana gestured towards the skies. "Definitely not with that getting worse."

"Oh..." Devika took a moment to process what Quiana had told her. The rain had caused a mudslide. And even worse, they likely wouldn't get back to the camp, rather, they wouldn't be able to get back there safely. "Well, what do we do? I think my brother will go crazy if I don't return to camp...but if we can't do so safely then I hope he'd have the sense to stay in camp until the rain has stopped. Do you know of anywhere that we could seek shelter?" The problem of their safety started her mind going again and out of the panic state. It was still panicked, but it at least recognized that she wasn't safe and when they returned to safety then she could freak out again. Devika did what she could to calm her breathing and sit up. Her limbs were shaky and she didn't feel like she had much in the way of energy but she would have to endure. She sighed as she stood fully. Overall, she didn't think she was hurt. Tired, but not hurt. "Are you okay? Are you hurt? I could heal you." Devika offered in case her new friend did sustain some injuries while saving her.

Quiana quirked a brow. "Your brother won't be the only one fussing but we have little choice so they will have to endure it for now." She replied bluntly before glancing about. Her grandmother would most definitely lecture her later but if Quiana hadn't lingered then there was a chance that this earthling would have been washed away already. It would have been a shame to find a dead Matori instead of the living one, even if it was slightly more hassle taking care of them both during this storm. Quiana kept a careful eye on Devika as she got back on her feet and blinked at the sudden offer. "Here I was worried about you struggling but you're offering me aid?" She replied with a chuckle of amusement. "I'll be fine for now but thank you." Even if she had some bruises and cuts along her body from the debris of the mudslide, the Elidae wasn't quite ready to rely on an earthlings help just yet. Perhaps she did have a bit of that Aishan pride after all and it would do no good if someone found out and teased her. What type of warrior couldn't endure some pain? Though Quiana would much rather not get any battle scars, thank you very much. Fortunately the bruising would heal and the scrapes would be fine with some ointment once she returned home.
Speaking of which..."Let's focus on shelter first. I think there's some caves further along the beach that should be away from the water." They couldn't cut up the original path as intended but at least they could hide from the rain at the closer location for now. The Elidae gestured for the Matori to follow her before starting forward, her steps only slowing so that she could peek back and check on Devika to make certain she was following.

Devika frowned slightly at Quiana's response. So she too had someone who would be worried about her. Not that she wouldn't by default but she hadn't known many alks but knew that their culture was significantly different. Especially since she said she didn't live in the main location the Elidae were located at. At her question, she cocked her head. "I have fears." Devi said somewhat quietly and yet in a tone that said she wasn't going to elaborate. "But I try to not let it interfere with my job as a healer." And that was true, she really tried hard to not let it get in the way of her profession. She sighed slightly, still trying to reign in her panic. "Shelter. Got it." She followed behind the other girl and was careful with each of her steps.

"Ah." Quiana blinked before offering a smile to the earthling. "Though some Sisters refuse to admit any fears, I believe that you cannot be truly brave without having something to face that unnerves you." She could acknowledge that effort and actually appreciated it. Though if water was the fear Quiana admittedly could not quite grasp how one could be afraid of it, especially since it was something she loved so much. As rain pounded down around them and lightning flashed overhead the Elidae led them through a twisting cove of trees until finally a small cave appeared. It wasn't a deep cave, just a crevice in the sturdy rocks that could allow them to hunker down for the night with even little room for a fire. It would do it's job though and keep them out of the elements for the most part, something Quiana was eager for since her skin was tired of stinging sand and heavy raindrops. "Hope you don't mind keeping close company." She offered with an amused grin before darting inside and curling up to sit against the back wall, the smooth stone comforting against her sore back.

Devika nodded slightly in thanks. She had not always been able to admit her fear. Some days she did what ever she could to avoid it, which had sometimes been hard living in Matori. Yet, somehow she had made it to this point. Yes her muscles were still tight with tension and her heart hadn't quite slowed down but she'd made it. As they found a small cave that they wouldn't have probably been able to have a fire in even if they had been able to find dry firewood, Devika squished herself to the back beside Quiana. "Thank you, by the way. You don't really know me and yet you saved me yet you owed me nothing. It's not something I will forget." Devi said honestly.

"You're welcome." Quiana chuckled after a moment though as she settled in next to the Matori so that they could try to maintain some semblance of warmth together. "I'm not completely gold hearted, you know. I just found you interesting and it would be hassle for all of us if a dead earthling showed up." She found herself joking slightly before peeking over towards Devika. "We may have a few hours before the storm clears up. I'd be interested to hear more about the earthling lands if you don't mind How is it over there?" Like usual Quiana's curiosity was endless. Did earthlings have islands throughout the world or was it truly just a giant landmass of countries with different landscapes shoved together? How high did the mountains go? Did earthlings hunt or just gather? What were cities like? Did they live in trees or on the ground? So many questions! But Quiana simply waited patiently despite her flurry of thoughts as she studied the earthling woman.

Again Devika nodded in thanks and didn't speak for a few moments as she thought about everything Quiana had asked. "Most people don't make a decision about something without some sort of positive outcome for themselves. It's just how life is. As for how the Mainland is..." She tried to gather her thoughts. "Quite frankly I find it amazing. I lived solely in Matori for most of my life, I haven't traveled much until recently. My brother has seen much more of the world than I have. Still, the parts that we traveled through were so amazing. It's sort of crazy how so vastly different lands are right next to each other. If you're able and are curious enough I'd say you should definitely travel. I was so hesitant to for the longest time but now, after how much I've seen, I'm really thankful for the opportunity." Devika smiled at the woman next to her. She got to meet such interesting people, see amazing places and experience such different life styles. It was something she'd never forget even if she went back and lived in Matori for the rest of her life.
