She continued to shovel back potatoes, taking care to use the wetter bits of potato to lubricate the dry bits of potato as they were shoveled down her gullet. Nope. Yolie wasn't giving in dammit! The woman huffed, feeling offended by herself. She could do better! She lived with more male relatives than any smart woman ought, and Yolie frowned, continuing to work at things. Maybe a measdured pace?...She needed funnel cake for this.

Mehri thought she might have heard someone cheering, and that was nice. What was also nice was her desire to go back into eating the pile of potato based goods in front of her and thus she tucked in. Politely.
Was she pacing herself? Who really knew - maybe that ache at the back of her mouth near one of her teeth had something to say about it but meh. If it hurt even worse the next go 'round or someone else beat her at it, so be it. She'd already eaten her fill of all the other foods in the fair, no need to properly make herself sick.
Still though, she was going to eat.

Jada Chamberlyn
Jada had to admit that she hadn't wanted to come to the eating contest. There was just... little appealing about watching a bunch of people shove potatoes down their gullet. She had debated joining in, just because she would love to try and stick it to her little sister, beat her out in one more thing. And yet even though she hadn't wanted to come support her, here she was, trapped and surrounded by her other siblings.
The second she had seen the plate and pile of potatoes, Jada had been made intimately aware of the fact that she was outmatched by every single participant up there. That was so many carbs she would DIE. And then, seeing her younger sister steadily demolishing those potatoes and growing ahead of the competition slowly but surely- "Oh, lord." Jada clutched her pearls- figuratively, since she wasn't wearing any. "That's so disgusting."
Next to her, their siblings were screaming their support for Giulia- Aidan roaring her name, and Zora screaming something about how this was for the glory of the Horde or something. Lucas was, comparatively, normal, and cheering for everyone equally.
"I think I'm going to puke." she grabbed her stomach, imagining just- the feeling- and- ugh.

The small crowd that had gathered now watched and waited in awe -- and probably a fair amount of horror -- as the contestants continued to eat. Giulia had taken a clear lead and was showing no signs of stopping. Mehri was still keeping with the steady pace she'd set from the start, and the others... Well, they could still possibly catch up with a bit of determination, right?
Right?

"Are we nearing the home stretch? It could still be anyone's game! The contest continues!"

Was one of her brothers laughing in the cropwd?...Yes. Yes he was. Of the Galanis siblings, her least favorite was watching and Yolie, in a fit of spite, continued to eat, glowering at the man from her position trying to get further along. She was deytermined to not end up last.
Also, to punch her brother now. Son of a biscuit.

She couldn't believe she'd managed to last this long, surprisingly. The question was, could she make it to the end?
Stuffing more potatoes into her gullet; mashed, fried, gravy... It was a lot. Too much. Definitely heavier then she was used to when it came to food. Or at least a lot of food. She could see her cousins telling her to tap out. Even they knew this was beyond her limit.
Managing to finish the bite in her mouth, swallowing heavily. Yep that was it. Taking her personal container of fries, Dongmei stood up and made a show of tapping her hand against the table. She was tapping out.

Mehri was pretty sure her tooth was hurting. Maybe she'd cracked it on one of those hard candies she tried to eat? Candied apple or whatever? Or maybe she was also actually getting kinda full considering all the food she'd eaten. Either way she just kept at it, slow and steady, not really caring that someone else had cleared their plate.
It wasn't like they were gonna get more if they finished...right? Or heck, should she step it up in an effort to get.....more free food ?
Nah, her tooth hurt. Better to go as she was.

"Well, folks, it looks like we've got a winner! Miss Giulia Montgomery you've earned a Spud-tacular special prize along with a VIP invitation to the Grand Opening of our physical locaion this fall to face off against the Monarch of Mount MASHED!" Mr boasted, proudly beaming as Mrs brought a trophy over to the table -- a golden potato in all of its glory sitting atop a pedestal of faux marble with a small plaque on the front that read Taters Precious 1st Place with Adelaide County Fair 2021 etched beneath it in a small, unassuming font. She was also handed an envelope containing twelve 'free fries or tots' stamp cards good for any MASHED location [with enough slots to easily get free fries every day if one were so inclined] and a fifty dollar gift card that could be used anywhere major credit cards were accepted.
"Of course, we do have something for the runners up as well -- no need to stop if you're still interested in eating, just... Here you go..." One by one an envelope was set down in front of the remaining contestants. Each envelope contained a ten dollar gift card to be used anywhere along with a single 'free fries or tots' stamp card with thirty spaces, good to redeem for a full year.
"Thank you all so much for joining us! For anyone interested in hanging around, the truck will be open until just before the fireworks start! Have a good night, folks... And let's have a round of applause for the MASHED heroes of the day!" [ Thank you all again for hanging with me through this adventure. <3 I promise the next one will go MUCH smoother -- even if I like my mashed potatoes to be more like smashed potatoes.... Mmm.... Potatoes....Stay Tuned for the follow up event later on this fall! ]
