Maritza commiserated with her son, but gave a long, exhausted nod regardless. Uquin owes me big for this.
When the curly headed one started to walk away she crossed her arms across her chest and fell in languid step behind him, whether he cared for it or not.
"A stowaway, huh? Could work...until they find you." The last word came out as a clip of her tongue and a sharp, pensive look. "On my ship stowaways are kept in a tiny cell without food for two weeks. Think you can handle that?"

Isaia was tempted to just... stay where he was, but... if his mom was getting herself involved in this, reluctantly or not, then he would too. If only because she would probably smack his arm later and ask 'why'd you leave it all to me, you brat?!' if he didn't.
"That's not even mentioning the pirates. I'd be careful, kid, not to pick the wrong ship.

Huh... that made sense. Colm nodded, moving to put himself between Arden and the strangers, peering over his shoulder at the two as they leisurely followed them along. He made a face at the idea of pirates, peering suspiciously at the Yaeli dock hand that was tossing rope along the pier.
"If we disappear mother will come look for us, and what if she got caught by pirates, Arden? And it'd be all our fault...!"

Pirates?
That...might have caused Arden to stop a little and apprehension to color his cheeks. He wasn't exactly the strongest swimmer and then-
Oh yes, mother! That was totally why he was worried about pirates, of course, no other reason.
His eyes drifted toward the yaeli dockhand, back to the newcomers, back to the yaeli, to Colm and - "UGH, fine!"

On some level Maritza understood his reluctance. She didn't care for Tendaji; she'd made that painfully obvious from day one. It was the adventure to the new world that had called her, not the end result, and were it not for her little family she wouldn't bother going further than the port.
He likely wouldn't have a fun time in Belrea, but that really wasn't her problem. All she had to do was make sure the little brat didn't run off. "Let's make a deal; if the two of you can manage not to run off while you're staying with us I'll buy you something at the market. Whatever you want." Children had cheap tastes so it wasn't as if she were worried. She could dangle a priceless gem in front of their face and they would always go for the half-melted cake.
"And if you do manage to run off you have to take Isaia with you."

Wah- "Hey!" Isaia, who had been distractedly scratching at his face, stumbled a bit in how fast he turned to glare at his mom, propping his hands on his hips. "You're just jealous 'cause you know I'd let the pirates keep ya."

Oh gosh! Really? Colm finally let go of Arden's sleeve, relief flooding through him. "Thank you, little brother." He gushed, fondly, smiling a bit tremulously at him. The older boy though made him jolt a bit, horrified at a child being so disrespectful to a parent!
Then he looked at Maritza, eyes going a bit wide in surprise. "Really? Will we have to decide together?" He paused, then leaned in to Arden, cupping a hand so that he could whisper, perhaps quietly enough she wouldn't hear him, "If we're good, maybe we could get an averin, do you think so Arden?"

If Arden had a choice he'd let pirates keep her too...and there was absolutely NO WAY he was taking a bossy teenager with him!
Still, his scowl turned into a mild pout upon seeing how relieved his brother was. He didn't even care for the bribery but then....but then Colm started talking about flying pets and he grinned. "Yeah, yeah I think we could do that."

Maritza's grin turned positively evil. "Bold of you to assume they would last a week with me!" Pirates and thieves weren't something she dealt with on a daily basis, but Maritza had more experience than most. With that much time in the air one wracked up quite a bit of boredom and techniques in which to 'punish' offenders could get interesting.
"Individual prizes; so long as you do what you're told." Seeing some others rolling onto the docks, Maritza craned her eye to peep through the crowd. Finding the two smaller men may have been harder...if it weren't for the rather large hybrid woman accompanying them. "And don't tell your mom. All she needs to know is that you're behaving and you aren't stressing her, okay?"

Y'know, as much as he liked to sell his mother short, times like this reminded Isaia of just how terrifying she could really be. He squinted, looking at her closely as she beamed, his lips twitching into a reluctant grin. Because yeah, he actually believed it.
His expression settled a bit though when they both looked along the docks towards the couple. It was... probably only on seeing how harried the large woman was that Isaia felt the first pang of sympathy which, hearing about the sick father had failed to bring. "If you're bad too much, your mom will turn into this." He motioned playfully towards his mom, winking at her to try and convey that, for once, he was joking.

Arden said yes! Colm smiled brightly, then turned towards Maritza, chirping out an unusually happy (for him) 'Yes ma'am!'
His hand reached to take his brother's hand, his heart warm with relief. Now that mother was coming, Arden wouldn't run even if he changed his mind after their Deal.
For today, at least, he could trust his brother wasn't going to leave.

Her gut instinct was to snap off some sort of comment at Isaia, but Maritza pulled short. She opened her mouth, then closed it with a sigh and shrugged. "You're not wrong." For the sake of the younger boys she looked serious, but her son's wink was met with a knowing smile.
If he'd been less of a brat then maybe she would have had more faith in obedience of children, but she couldn't honestly say she'd have it any other way.

Seeing the three adults making their way up the dock clenched it for Arden. He'd lost his opportunity to run, but seeing the way his father had to be supported just made him feel...guilty? for contemplating it.
So long as she was true to her word then he would be good. Once they got their own place, though...
