“How convenient,” Sessrumnir growled, not trusting this General for a moment. They’d just stabbed his brother! And now there was this act about how they used caffeine instead of stolen energy? Of course Valhalla was going to eat all of this up. He had such a soft heart, especially for people in the Negaverse, for whatever reason. It was just going to get him killed. It almost got him killed, and he was dying as a result of it.

Valhalla just shook his head, still trying to get Sessrumnir to calm down. For Valhalla, it was obvious that General Uranophane was sincere. They no longer seemed angry and wanting to fight. And they’d already apologized.

“Don’t worry about it. It happens. I imagine it’s pretty dangerous to chat with the enemy,” Valhalla pointed out, once again ignoring the long-suffering sigh from Sessrumnir. “And look, you’ve injured me, so that should count for something, right? I’m not saying that to make you feel bad, just… If there’s something we can do… You don’t have to worry about your cover getting blown with us.”

He paused for a moment and then, “You mentioned before… your comrades betraying the Negaverse was a way to fix their damaged starseeds. Is… that what you really believe? That your starseeds are damaged by Chaos?” Maybe he misunderstood, but it sounded like the Negaverse still had reason to be concerned about Uranophane’s insubordination.

Uranophane gave Sessrumnir an understanding glance. Honestly, she could understand his suspicion completely. If their positions were reversed, she would be reacting in the exact same way -- and honestly, after attacking Valhalla the way she had, she had a lot of respect for his restraint.

Her jaw tensed a bit at Valhalla's question. The General had finally noticed what she had let slip a few minutes ago. So, after another pause, she said, "Yes."

Yes, I am damaged.

"It's exploitation," Uranophane continued, a spark of purpose lighting in her tone. "Even the highest ranking members are being taken advantage of." She looked at Sessrumnir again. "I'm not saying this for sympathy, it's a fact of how the Negaverse works. One that's vital to understand if you want to beat them."

It was becoming clear was that these Knights she had run into were potential allies. Both Valhalla's open-mindedness and Sessrumnir's shrewdness demonstrated they could be trustworthy, in their own ways. They were both people she would want to have on her side once she could find the right opportunity to leave.

So, she said, "There is something we could use help with. We'll owe you when we're out."

Sessrumnir grit his teeth. He still wasn’t sure about this. Uranophane seemed like they were being sincere with their request, but until he knew what the request was, he didn’t want to agree so easily.

“What do you want us to do?” he asked before Valhalla could go ahead and offer up their services and livelihood. Their friends and family could be at risk too.

Exploitation sounded bad, and Valhalla frowned as Uranophane explained some of it to them. He nodded to show he was listening, even as he tried not to make a face at the pain in his arm. It would be okay. He healed quickly. He would just have to tell his coach that he was mugged (again) or something. And apologize to Jack for putting him in a bad spot for games, especially if it prevented him from being able to pitch.

“Whatever you need, just let us know--”

No,” Sessrumnir sputtered in exasperation as he cut Valhalla off. “Let’s find out what they want first! What is wrong with you??” Seriously, someone must have hit his brother in the head one too many times.

I'm okay with handwaving explanations if we want to wrap this up! I lost this one. :C

"You have the advantage right now. I'm low on energy and outnumbered," said Uranophane. "So if you don't like my request, by all means, take me down where I stand." She huffed a bit. "At least my star seed would be free that way."

That was probably going to make Sessrumnir even more suspicious. No helping it now. She produced a small, acid-green crystal, and tapped at it to cycle through a series of holograms. "This is our research," she said. "On the Negaverse. From a thousand years ago. We think some of the data may be useful to people on the other side. I was looking for a dropoff location, but a person would be more practical."

She threw it at the ground between them. The image of a tattered scroll flickered for a second before vanishing.

"Take it. I'll pick it back up if I'm not executed first. That's all."

Valhalla was of course the first to move. He carefully stepped forward and reached out to pick up the crystal that had briefly flashed the image of a scroll. Knowing it was information that could be useful was more than he could ask for.

He nodded to Uranophane, and then turned to Sessrumnir to hold the crystal out to him.

"I'm not exactly the most capable of keeping things safe, especially when I can hardly keep myself safe. But Sessrumnir is the most reliable person I know," Valhalla explained as he looked from the General to the Knight.

"Will you keep this safe for now?"

Sessrumnir wasn't sure if most reliable was the right way to describe him. He did what he thought was best to protect those he cared about. But that also meant that if this was actually research on the Negaverse, even from a thousand years ago, it might be useful to protect others.

A bit reluctantly he held out his hand to take the crystal, and immediately put it into his subspace pocket, just in case the General ended up having some malicious intent.

"Fine," he grunted. "I'll have it for you when you get out." Not executed. Surely this General knew the risks and knew what they were doing. If they could get out, if they were sincere, then they would cross paths again at some point.
