With her son clinging to her and crying she couldn’t help but keep the frown in place. “I’m sorry, Ujiri. You saw me being lonely and developed some anger toward your mother. Its my fault.” She ran her hand over his head gently as she held him close. “Let that anger go, alright?” It wasn’t needed. Ariya could deal with an empty bed for a few months.

That his mom was apologizing for it only made him more angry but he couldn’t tell her that. She loved his mother too much to admit that what she was doing was wrong. So he shook his head a little and remained silent this time. Instead he just clung to her and tried to get a handle on his emotions. He wanted to stop the tears before he pulled away so she didn't seem him crying again.

With him being quiet now she thought he might finally understand. At least she hoped he did. She held him tight and gave him comfort. “I love you stick bug, you know that right?” She used the little pet name affectionately as she placed a kiss to the top of his head and smiled. “You and your siblings mean so much to me. I don’t want you to be upset for any reason.” If she could fix it then she would. So long as the solution didn't cause hurt to someone else they cared about.

“I know.. I love you too mom.” He gave a wry smile. He wasn’t feeling happy but he did like that Ariya said she loved him. It made him feel a little better. At least she wasn’t going to abandon him. He shifted a little so that he could rest his head against her arm as he stared at the ground. He was slowly getting a handle on his emotions.

With him seeming to calm down she placed another kiss to the top of his head and kept stroking his dreads. As long as he needed the comfort then she would stand there like that. Her eyes closed and she started to hum to him just like she did when he was a baby. She hoped it would calm him down even more.
