▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬ ✧✧✧ Feeling Lonely Solo - Hunter/Stage 3 - WC 815 (2pts)
It had been months now and she had heard nothing, not a peep, from her special friend. No letter to let her know how she was or where she planned to go, or even if she was okay. No return visit to just stop in and let her know that she had plans to keep traveling or if she was planning to stay put. Nothing. Ming'we was left to sit and wonder in silence. No answers would come to her anytime soon.
That just meant that she was back where she had been before she had met the lovely lady. Lonely. She had split ways with one lover already and had not yet gotten to reach that level of intimacy with another. Though she had hoped to get there with this past connection but it seemed the world had other plans for her. Ming'we was starting to wonder if perhaps there was something wrong with her. Something that drove people away. Something that screamed at them to leave her to her own devices. Other than her oh so winning personality that is. With a small snort she looked down at her hands, palms face up as she moved her fingers slowly. Her vision was progressively getting worse with time and since she had taken away her other means of "seeing" she would soon become blind. Being in a world with no one by her side and no sight to keep her company didn't seem like a good fate. It certainly made her feel like she was isolated.
Sure, she had Callum, her pseudo brother, and Sol, her nephew by said brother, but they had their own lives. Their own goals in life. They wouldn't want to be stuck taking care of her when she was old and grey and couldn't see the world. Would they? The blonde turned her head and looked toward the wall of her home where she had a tapestry hanging by a set of nails. It was a luxurious item to have but it served a purpose more important than just making the space look pretty. It was how she gauged just how bad her vision was getting. From her place in her chair on the other side of the house she could barely make out the details. As long as she could still see the general picture that was depicted among its weave then she should be able to hunt and that was all she was truly worried about. If she lost her only means to feed herself then she would really be in for trouble.
Still, it would be nice if she had someone or something to share her life with. The thought of a familiar crossed her mind but then she wasn't sure what she would get. The one beast she had thought she liked the most was many miles away in another territory and it was also tied to someone in her past. Having such a creature might bring more pain and anguish than comfort. So that left her thinking of the beasts that resided in Sauti. It also made her wonder if maybe she should start to look for someone to be with. Set aside her loyalties to others and stop waiting when she wasn't going to get any younger. Or prettier. Or healthier. Ming'we pressed her lips together in a thin line and wondered if she should think about starting a family of her own. If she wanted to do that, though, she needed to do it now. Or at least very soon. Before her sight completely failed her and she was not able to care for a young child.
But could she bring herself to do it? Could she simply use someone for that purpose and then walk away from them? Ming'we didn't think so. She didn't think she was capable of doing such a thing to anyone. So that meant that she would need a relationship with them. And truly.. she didn't know if she was ready for that.
A familiar would have to be what she settled on for now. If it worked out well with that then maybe she could consider moving on and finding someone to spend her life with. The last would be starting a family when she knew that her eyes would go.
Tears gathered as she thought about the possibility of never being a mother. They watered even more when she realized that she might not be able to see what her child looked like even if she did have them. What kind of mother would she be if she couldn't tell the color of her child's hair or eyes? So many things came as a down side to the selfish anger she had shown in her youth. If she had been thinking clearly at the time she may not have mutilated herself so easily.

▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬ ✧✧✧ Getting Guts Solo - Hunter/Stage 3 - WC 804 (2pts)
Ming'we brought a hand up slowly to rub at the back of her neck as the muscles within it were sore. She had spent a good amount of time being quiet and still with her neck craned to one side so that she could hunt. Most of what she got was small game, not a bad haul since it was only her that she was feeding, but it had caused her neck to ache something fierce. In her other hand she had a thin rope with the few small game she'd managed to catch tied to it. They dangled and swayed this way and that as she walked back toward her small home, blood dripping from them every once in a while and leaving a trail behind.
She had gutted them and bled them out at the site of the kill so there would be plenty for the scavengers to feast upon. Ming didn't want them coming to her home and getting into things so it was best to take care of the dirty stuff while she was still out on the hunt. It also kept the mess away from her home and cut back on any stench that might go along with it.
The crossbow that she had used to hunt the animals with was strapped to her waist, a small hook that stuck out from her belt looped around the wire that sent the bolts flying. The familiar bump it made against her thigh as she walked was a welcome feeling as it told her she was protected should she need it. It also set the rhythm for her pace. As she lowered her head to look at the weapon she grimaced a bit, the muscle in her neck pulling and sending a sharp pain through her spine and into her shoulders. Ming'we was sure she shouldn't have done that but it was a habit for her to look at the crossbow every so often to make sure it was still there, even if she could feel it hit her leg. Besides, she was a little sour that she'd lost three bolts today. THREE.
With an aggravated sigh she looked forward again, watching where she was going to avoid any missteps. Her sight had messed with her again while she was aiming and so three of her bolts had gone wide and missed altogether. It was a shame really, as she had just bought the new set of bolts in town, but there was nothing she could do. Short of crawling across the ground and scouring every inch in order to find them she had no hope of getting the bolts back. It meant that she would either need to go buy more, which would take coin she didn't really want to spend, or make her own. Homemade ones weren't so bad but they took forever to make as she liked to make sure they were well balanced. If only she were on better terms with the weaponsmith then she might get better deals when she went into town to buy things.
Despite the loss of her bolts she didn't count today as a bad one. After all, she had food to put on her table and she'd gotten out of the house for a bit. Now all she needed to do was find something to keep her mind off the emptiness of her life and she might be able to make it through the day without feeling sorry for herself.
A thought had occurred to her lately, that she had been mulling over. Perhaps she should send a written letter out to a past acquaintance and see how they fared. It wouldn't hurt anything. The worst that could happen is that she got no response or a flat out speaking to. However, Ming'we was more and more determined to reach out as the days passed by. If nothing else to see how the other was doing.
Her head moved again, this time looking at her kills, and she made a small noise as her neck pulled at itself again. After shaking her head at herself she cleared her throat and rolled her head back. Ming moved it side to side and heard the tell tale popping sound of her bones. It didn't fix the problem but it gave a bit of temporary relief and that was enough for her at the moment. On top of that she wasn't too far from home now. That just meant that she could get to picking feathers and skinning furs sooner. Since her pillow could use some extra fluff and the fur could be used in trades or to sell she hadn't taken care of them when she'd done the guts. Ming'we wasn't into wasting things anyways, if it could be used then she would use it.

▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬ ✧✧✧ A name learned Solo - Hunter/Stage 3 - WC 775 (2pts)
Admitting that she was experiencing empty nest syndrome was hard to do. Mostly because in her opinion she’d not had anyone in it to begin with so there was no way it could suddenly bother her now. Right? Well, Ming was wrong. So very, very wrong. Looking around at her house she had suddenly started to feel like something was missing. And when she realized it was another person it had hit like a sack of bricks. A very heavy sack at that. Of course the hybrid had done the only rational thing anyone in her position would do. She went to check out the adoption centers that were near her. (Because that was clearly the best solution to her problem.)
Since she lived close to the border of Zena she simply crossed over it and into the snow filled lands so that she could visit the orphanage there as the ones in Sauti had bore no fruit after several weeks. Three times she’d gone for a visit, and while she adored the children she saw she didn’t really connect with any of them on a level that screamed ‘pick me!’ So she vowed to keep coming back and see if maybe it just took some time for that bond to develop. By the time she was on her fourth visit the man that helped to fix things up around the place took notice of her presence.
He leaned against the side of the building close to the door as he watched Ming’we approach. One blue tinted brow lifted up and he had to shake his head at the hybrid woman. “Determined huh?”
Ming’we paused to look at him, her cheeks flushing a little at the embarrassment of being recognized, but she lifted her shoulders a little as she spoke. “I know nothing’s changed but the kids could use the support.” Even if she wasn’t the one taking them home it was nice for them to have someone else, someone other than the matron of the place, to show off their drawings and stuff to. She was sure it made them feel good. Made them feel noticed.
“Yeah, they do like when you come to visit.” He chuckled and pushed off the outside wall so that he could step closer to her with his hand held out. “I’m Zenith.”
She paused to look at him, noticing for the first time that he was well kept, then his hand before looking back up at his face and reaching out to take his offered hand. “I’m Ming’we.”
“Yeah, I know who you are.” At the strange look he got from her he laughed and pointed toward the door before clueing her in as to how he knew such information. “The kids scream your name when you come in.”
“Oh..” Ming smiled fondly as she looked at the door. She knew the kids got excited when she stopped by but it had never dawned on her that someone might learn her name in that same way. “Guess I didn’t think anyone was listening in.”
“Usually no one else is around but I help out around the place.” He grinned at her then let go of her hand. “It’s nice of you to still come by even though you haven’t decided on one.” Zenith cringed slightly at his wording. It almost sounded like she was here to pick out a pup from a litter of beasts.
“Ah, well.. They are good kids. They deserve someone to come and see them more than just to see if they are worthy.” Ming’we had felt bad when she didn’t connect with any of the children and their little disappointed faces broke her heart. So she came back.
“That’s true. Not a lot of people see it that way.” Zenith nodded his head at her before he heard the sound of footsteps behind him and soon after the door opened. He had thought to warn the pretty woman in front of him but he wasn’t fast enough.
“MING’WE!!” Came the squeal of one of the girls from inside.
Said hybrid woman flinched at the sound then gave an apologetic look to Zenith before laughing and moving so that she could look around him into the orphanage.
“Hello little ones~” She cooed at them. “How has your day gone?” Ming’we stepped around Zenith so that she could go inside to spend time with the children.
While she might not see it, Zenith watched her. His eyes tracked her and he smiled to himself as he admired her and how she handled the kids that came up to her to all talk at once.

▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬ ✧✧✧ Careful, its glass Solo - Hunter/Stage 3 - WC 1065 (3pts)
She’d been going to the orphanage for several weeks now, if not months. Ming’we was finding she quite enjoyed the company of the kids as well as a certain handyman named Zenith a lot. In fact she very much preferred it over being by herself. Over time their friendship had grown and Ming was starting to smile more often than she had in the past few months. Not just because she got to make the kids happy but because she had someone who she could talk to. An adult someone, that is. The native Zenan was surprisingly good at conversation.
Now she was spending time with Zenith outside of the orphanage and while it was weird at first she found she was enjoying it. Even strange things could be relaxing from time to time. Today he’d made the trek to her little farm to help her out since she’d complained of something that was in need of fixing. Which led to the amusing situation in which they were currently in.
Zenith was on a rather tall ladder as he worked to repair the greenhouse she used to grow crops in all year. The haul wasn’t much but it kept her from having to depend on a market and the prices that varied with supply and demand. Of course he’d whistled at the sight of it since he was impressed with her handicraft. It was well thought out and was even built to withstand the occasional snows that came with being so close to the Zenan border. Sometimes the weather decided to pay a visit when it got a notion to.
Ming’we was at the bottom of the ladder holding it steady and in place for security purposes and looking up at him. “Be careful please.” She didn’t want him to get hurt while he was up there tinkering around. It would certainly make her feel bad for asking for help.
“Nah, don't worry, I’ve got this.” Zenith sounded so sure of himself, at least vocally, but the look on his face said otherwise. He had some doubts about the ladder and the height at which he was currently at to do repairs.
It was enough to make Ming tilt her head in mild concern. “Are you sure? I can get up there and do it if you just walk me through the process.” She’d offered to take care of the problem on her own, provided he gave her the tools and told her how, but as the man he told her not to worry and that he could do it.
“Yeah, no.. I have it. I’m just not used to such a steep roof on a greenhouse. Or a regular house for that matter.” He commented. Zenith took a second to admire the pitch of the roof before get got back to what he was doing.
“Well, I had to make sure a heavy snow didn’t rest on the roof and crack the glass. That was what I came up with.” She replied with a soft pout. “Glass gets expensive too.” Especially if she had to have it delivered to her from the town. And moving it herself was a gamble she wasn't willing to take again. She’d done that once and broke it before she got it home. Tears had been shed that day. And words had been said. It was an awful memory.
“That makes sense. Just not used to it is all.” Zenith stated as he reached into his pocket and pulled out the tool he needed. One of the roof windows was stuck in the open position. A hinge on the side just needed loosened to allow more room for the window to slide better. Of course the thing was at an awkward angle so the ice male had to lean heavily to the side to get at the screw in question. “A little tweak here..” He grunted as he stuck his tongue out from the efforts.
Ming’we watched carefully as her friend continued on. His leaning caused her to be more and more concerned but she trusted he knew what he was doing.
When Zenith was done he leaned back and was going to tell her he’d gotten it fixed but his pants caught on the side of the ladder. His face morphed into an expression of panic and he gripped the ladder more forcefully. “Oh no.” He muttered.
Ming heard his mutter and leaned to the side to try and get a better look to see what was going on. “Zen? Zen what is it? What’s wrong?”
“Nothing. Just.. a little stuck.”
“That’s not nothing!” Ming’we felt her heart start to race.
He tugged and pulled until his pants gave way with a loud rip. Once free he leaned closer to the ladder and took a deep breath. He didn’t want to risk falling backward. Not only would he land on Ming and hurt her but he’d hurt himself too.
“Zen?”
He took a moment before he looked down at the hybrid woman and offered her a smile. “All good. Just have a nice rip in my pants now.”
Ming’we paused for a second to blink at what he said before she started to laugh at him. Knowing he’d sacrificed his pants to help her fix something was far more amusing than it should have been.
He shook his head and moved so that he could close the roof window, checking to make sure it slid easy enough for Ming to operate it. When he was satisfied that it was a smooth transition he nodded then began to descend the ladder. “Coming down.”
“Alright. We can go inside and I’ll patch your pants up before you leave.” Ming’we didn’t want him to walk all the way home with a hole in his pants. It was slightly her fault for asking him to help her anyways, it was the least she could do. Plus it would give her more time to spend with her friend. It kept her from being lonely.
“Sure thing. You have any tea to drink? I could use something warm. It’s a bit chilly up there.” He chuckled at his words and hopped the last two rungs of the ladder to land on the ground beside her.
“I think I can manage some tea. Come on.” She nodded her head for him to follow her inside.

▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬ ✧✧✧ The hard stuff Solo - Hunter/Stage 3 - WC 1328 (4pts)
Ming’we stared hard at her friend as if he grew two heads and a set of antennae. She wasn’t sure if she’d heard what she’d heard. The words that had come out of his mouth had to have been something else. A slow blink of her eyes gave her a moment to try and find clarity. Maybe confirm that she was hearing things.
“I mean it Ming. Let me be there for you.” Zenith smiled at her as he reached out for her hand.
She didn’t pull her hand away from his but she did drop her eyes to look at where he laced their fingers together. It was an interesting idea. She could let him be there to pick up the pieces to everything of her that was broken. And there were a lot of pieces. She knew that. Ming’we knew how broken she was. Her heart was shattered and she feared it would never be whole again.
“Ming’we. Look at me please.” He asked so sweetly. “Let me in. Please. Let me be there for you.” The tone of his vice was nothing but soft and reassuring.
“Zen..” Her voice broke a little as she tried to say his name. “Zenith. I’m.. I’m broken.” She tried to explain. Ming didn't want him to think he was getting a complete product.
“And? I still find you beautiful. I still fell in love with your personality.” He offered.
“Why?” She asked quietly.
“Why?” He questioned. “Because. You go up there once a month to visit the orphanage kids and make sure they are doing okay. You give away any extra food you’ve grown or caught rather than sell it for profit.” He leaned down a little so that he could look her in the eye. “Everything about you is amazing to me.”
As he spoke tears gathered in her eyes and she tilted her head a bit to the side, almost pitying him for seeing through rose colored glasses when it came to her. Sure, she did those things, but in her eyes it was for selfish reasons.
“Zenith.. I don’t.. I’m not sure if I can risk falling for someone else.” She shook her head a little. The pain of her past loves was still there, still lingered, and they hurt when poked at.
“Ming. All I ask is for a chance. I want to show you how wonderful you are.” He smiled at her.
“But you don’t know.. You haven’t.. “ She couldn’t get the words out.
“Then tell me. I can promise nothing you tell me will be that bad.”
Ming’we chewed on her bottom lip as she thought about what to do next. Could she tell him? Could she let him know that she still loved someone else, that she’d had her hopes up for another and then the history she had and the self mutilation.. Could he handle that? She brought her gaze up to him and remained quiet for a minute longer, staring into his eyes.
“Okay..”
Zenith smiled and moved so that he could lead them both over to the table and chairs waiting for them. Once they were situated, with his chair brought closer to hers, he made sure to grab hold of her hand again.
“I’m not over my first love..” She blurted out. “I thought I was but.. I don’t think I ever will be.” The sadness that leaked into her features told him everything.
So the ice male reached up and gently stroked her cheek. “That’s alright. First love’s are hard to get over or forget.” He couldn’t fault her for that one. Even he could remember his first love. Though his wasn’t as strong, obviously, and he’d moved on since then.
“I tried to move on with someone else and I thought it was working.. But they left me too.” Ming lowered her head in shame. For two people to not be with her then there was clearly something wrong with her. That was the only answer she had ever come up with over the years.
“Then that is their loss, Ming’we. I’d like for it to be my gain.” He was still doing his best to reassure her.
“I’ve also cause harm to myself before.” The shame of that admission made her turn her head away from him so that the embarrassed blush that covered her cheeks was somewhat hidden from him. “I.. I used to have antennae. You know, like traditional alkidike’s do.” Her one free hand came up to vaguely motion to her head. “I uh.. I cut them off. I cover the scars with my hair.” A sniffle could be heard as she ducked her head even lower. “The extremists had gotten a hold of me and left me for dead in a ravine. I hated that side of me so much because of their hatred that I wanted to be rid of any trace of them..” She went quiet.
It had to be obvious. She’d taken her anger out on herself.
Zenith tightened his grip on her hand momentarily. Knowing that she’d hurt herself caused him to feel panic for a second. Finally he leaned in close and lifted her head so that she could face him. Zenith put their foreheads together and he closed his eyes. “Please, don’t ever do that. Don’t hurt yourself. I would rather you hurt me.” The hand on her cheek moved down to her neck and he pulled her closer.
“I’m sorry.. I haven’t done it since.” Which wasn’t a lie. The thoughts had crossed her mind but she’d never acted on them again. That pain had been more than enough. “My eyesight is bad enough. Taking away my antennae made it worse.” She admitted.
Zenith gave a snort. When he opened his eyes to look at her he smiled.
“So any child you have will have antennae?”
“Uhm.. it’s possible. If the alkidike trait is strong enough.”
“I would love that.”
Ming’s face burned bright then. His pure acceptance of everything she had said was almost overwhelming. But she could tell he was sincere with his words at least.
“Zenith, I can’t promise to love you like you deserve..” And that was what worried her.
“That’s alright. Will you let me love you? I want to give you the life you deserve. I want to be by your side. And if you still want children, Ming’we, I would love to have them with you.” The iceling grinned as he leaned back a little so that he could better gague her reaction to what he’d just said.
Ming was effectively a fish. Her mouth opened then closed then opened again but no words came out. She was stunned. The fact that someone was willing to put up with all that she was seemed to shock her into silence. Even more so the fact that they were willing to help her get what she wanted.
“You don’t mind? All of my flaws? That I can’t promise to be what you deserve?”
“No Ming. I don’t mind. We can work through it together. I would like for you to love me the way I have come to love you but even if all you can give me is platonic love then I’ll take it. We can have a family and find happiness that way.”
She furrowed her brows a little. While she’d been trying to adopt, with little success in that department, she’d never really thought of having her own. Until now. Zenith was willing to give her that even if she couldn’t return his full affection. He was someone she didn’t want to lose in her life though.
“I don’t want to lose you, Zen. Please don’t let me hurt you either.” She had to make sure that he wasn’t hurt because of her own heart and mind.
“You won’t.” He smiled at her with the softest expression. “We can find happiness and have a family.”
“Okay…”

▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬ ✧✧✧ A congratulations Solo - Hunter/Stage 3 - WC 810 (2pts) - BREEDING
She’d been working on letting Zenith in. More and more each day she tried to let him see her vulnerable side. Ming’we found it more difficult on some days but he never left her side. The fact that he never gave up on her, even on her bad days, was enough to lower her defenses just a little.
So after months of working with him, side by side, on the farm and visiting the children of the orphanage, she found herself feeling under the weather. So she’d gone to see the local healer in the Sauti town she lived near. (More like on the outskirts of but she wasn’t being particular about it.) Of course the news she’d gotten there was a congratulations as well as some herbs handed to her with the instructions to use them in tea to help with the feeling of nausea that had been bothering her.
“Are you feeling any better?” Zenith’s voice pulled her from her thoughts as he stood in the doorway to greet her.
Ming’we just gave a vacant nod of her head then held up the herbs. “Need to put this in tea to help.”
He smiled as he stepped forward to take the herbs. “I’ll get you some then. You wanna sit down and relax? I’ll have the tea in a few minutes.” With that he went back inside and set to work on getting things done.
The hybrid simply followed but went to the main room instead of the kitchen. She found the armchair and sat down in it. Her blue eyes stared at the floor for a long while. So long in fact that soon enough there was a steaming cup of tea moving into her field of vision before too long. A blink and she looked up into a smiling face.
“Here, the herbs are in there to help too.” Zenith wasn’t sure what was wrong but he had a suspicion and he kinda hoped he was right.
Ming took the cup offered to her and leaned back in the chair, blowing over the rim to cool the liquid.
“So what did they say?”
“Congratulations.”
“What?” He tilted his head a bit at that.
“That’s what they said.” She lifted her gaze from the tea to the face of the man she considered a friend. It was hard to think that things were that complicated for her but so simple for him. He loved her. It showed in how he looked at her and in ever action he took during the day.
“Okay.” He laughed a bit. “What for?”
“Hm? Oh. I’m with child.” She said it as casually as possible. There was no worry about Zenith’s reaction to the news. Ming’we knew he’d be pleased. (And she was too) They’d made the agreement to have a family.
“That’s great news.” He knelt down in front of her and brought his hands to her knees. “I’m glad it wasn’t something bad. You had me worried when you couldn’t keep your meal down this morning.” He reached up and pushed her bangs back from her face, tucking them behind her ear.
“It is good. I’m just.. Shocked? I didn’t think it would happen this quick.”
“Ming? We’ve literally been trying for a few months now. It wasn’t that soon.” Zenith laughed at her.
It took Ming’we a moment and she even took one hand off the cup so that she could count the months on her fingers. “It really has been that long… Wow. I just didn’t.. It feels like we just started..” A blush reached her cheeks and she lifted the cup to hide behind.
“It’s alright. So the herbs are to help with nausea then?” He wanted to know what they were for so he knew when to make sure she had them.
At her nod he leaned back and smiled. “So you’ll want them in the morning then. I’ll be sure to get up before you to make some tea.” Zenith moved forward to kiss her cheek before he got up. “Drink up. When you’re done we’ll see if you can eat something.”
A small smile spread across her lips at the kiss, the affection was always welcome, and when he mentioned food she brought the cup up. Ming’we knew she needed to eat something since she’d lost her breakfast earlier in the day.
“Sounds good.”
When she was sure the tea was cool enough she brought it up to her lips and took a small sip. The warm rich flavor helped to calm her down and as it went down easily she was sure the herbs would do their job to settle her stomach. Ming’we put one hand over her stomach and smiled. She would make sure to take extra care of herself so that her little one was healthy when they were born.

▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬ ✧✧✧ Picking Vegetables Solo - Hunter/Stage 3 - WC 740 (2pts)
She waddled out to the greenhouse with a basket in hand. Ming’we had wanted to check and see what needed harvested now and what could wait. Of course Zenith had told her he would get to it when he got back but she was in dire need of something to do. The hybrid felt totally useless with her big belly in the way of many things. She had worried she might have twins. It would make sense since she was a twin.
That thought made her stop in the doorway of the greenhouse, cold air rushing past her to get inside. Had she sent a letter to her brother? Ming’we blinked as she stared at the air in front of her. No. She hadn’t sent any letters out about her pregnancy. So no one would know that she was expecting or when the baby would be born. With Minga it was easy to understand. She wasn’t quite sure where the man was. But the others in her life? Callum and his husband? Her nephew Sol? She hadn’t sent them anything.
“Huh.. I guess I forgot..” She said aloud to herself.
Coming back to she hurried inside and shut the door to keep the cool air out. She’d designed the greenhouse so that it was made of glass windows but was kept warm on the inside by a wood burning stove. She would need to check on the supply of wood that was available to make sure that during the colder nights they could keep their crops from freezing.
She moved along the rows of plants over to where the wood burning stove was located toward the back of the greenhouse and looked at the stack of wood beside it. There was enough for a few days. It reached up to her waist so she wasn’t all that worried about it right yet. Of course she knew they would need to get more soon. Grabbing the poker beside the stove she set the basket down on the ground as best as she could. With her belly in the way it was an awkward lean to the side and dropping of said basket.
Ming’we prodded at the burning embers inside the stove and leaned back as the action caused some ash to rise into the air. There was a small fire still going so she reached over for a small log. Ming knew she wasn’t supposed to lift much and if Zenith caught her doing more than she was supposed to then she’d never hear the end of it. The log was placed over the embers and she poked and prodded a bit more. When the flame grabbed hold of the dry bark and started to spread she smiled at it and nodded her head.
“There. That should last for a few hours at least.”
She put the poker back beside the stove then leaned to pick the basket back up. With it in hand she turned her attention back to the plants. Her eyes roamed over everything and then settled on those that looked like they could use a good picking. The hybrid made her way over to those plants and started to pick the vegetables that needed it. Not only did it prevent them from becoming overly ripe but it also took the weight off the plant so that the vine, branch, or stem could relax some.
As she moved along through the rows and took what looked like it was ready to be eaten she started to hum to herself. When her hand wasn’t busy picking something it was busy rubbing small circles over her belly. Ming would pause every so often when she felt the baby inside move or kick, a smile growing brighter on her features, then she’d go about what she was doing. To her this wasn’t just a chore getting done but was time spent singing to her little one before they were even born.
When she finished with the last row she looked back at everything, a double check to make sure she hadn’t missed anything. Reassured she’d done a good job she faced the exit once more.
“Lets get inside so I can write letters to your uncle Callum. I’m sure he’ll want to meet you and learn all about you.” She gave a small pat to her belly and pushed the door open so that she could head back inside her house.
