He moved closer, teeth bared and ears forward, tail raised. His claws sank into the dirt beneath him with every step. As she tried to right herself, he took a swing with his own heavy, bearish paw, a sound slap across her face, sending her slumping back into the dirt, rolling over again. She was dragging herself to her feet, slower this time while he continued to advance.

 She was pacing now, teeth bared and her tail bristling, ears plastered against her skull. Her shoulders rolled when she walked, her form was tense. Her head was low to the ground to protect her throat as she looked for an opening for an attack - but there just wasn't one.
He was staring her down and growing steadily closer, watching her every move, every muscle twitch. Her eyes always gave her away, she always looked before she lunged, and if he couldn't get her to retreat or stand down, it would be her downfall.

Soon it was all he could do to round on her, snarling and snapping, pushing her back further and further from the territory. Her pacing steps backpedaling every time he lunged in for an attack.
He wasn't cruel, this wasn't a game to him - the pack had pups, little Pine came to mind and he charged again reinvigorated. He wanted her away from them. His pack. His Family. Their territory.
He was a Protector, and he would Protect even at the cost of his own life!

The lioness wasn't stupid - young and inexperienced yes, but she was wise enough to know what he was doing. This territory was plentiful - there were so many small game animals and plenty of water. There was shade and there were dens to hide in.
She was determined to stay, and she figured her best bet was to hide. She suddenly spun while backpedaling, sidestepping, copying his earlier feint and she ran straight at him, slamming into him with enough force to make him unsteady on his feet twisting to snap at her, missing just barely, groaning inwardly to follow after the damned feline as she raced back into the territory.

He followed her, over boulders and fallen logs, under leaning trees and through bushes that clung, and twined, and stung as they tore at the softer flesh of his face. He moved like a battering ram, snapping at her tail tip a few times.
She couldn't turn one way or another, he lunged to keep her on course. Before, their path had been traveling in the direction of the old pack lands, but now, they were moving through the shared common territory, he prayed to whatever power made the sun set and the moon rise that the wolves were still sleeping in their dens and that they would not cross paths with anyone she could endanger.

Her paws stumbled across unfamiliar terrain and she felt the branches whip across her face as she raced from her pursuer.
Her head pounded, her body ached. She ran, and she ran, darting through the broader trees that were slowly becoming denser.
As they got further into the territory, she lost sight of familiarity and the scents became as foreign to her as the day she arrived in the Swiftfell Pack boundaries.

Frankly, relief swept over him as he pursued her deeper into the woods and found no cold traces of her scent around them. The pack for the most part was behind them, and he could pursue her without restraint now.
If she insisted on staying in the packlands, he would have no choice but to end her. He didn't want that. She was young, she had a life to live.
As a rogue, he'd seen mountain lions in tribes, and even one or two with relationships with wolves that crossed his path. He knew co-existing with them wasn't impossible, so why was she so determined to fight?

He was drawing nearer, and she came into a clearing with massive, gnarled roots from three great trees sitting on a raised, grassy hill that sloped down and created a nest-like wall around the small clearing.
She spun around as he slid to a halt, catching him with a hasty sweep of her claws as he was still finding his feet, sending him reeling back with a snarl, teeth snapping on empty air.

The swing of her paws caught him off-guard. She'd slipped beneath his eye level sliding into the small clearing which was recessed into the forest floor, and when he came upon her, she was ready and facing him.
She tried to swipe again, and his teeth snapped just in time to catch her paw between sharp teeth. She yowled and jerked back and he released to avoid losing his bottom jaw or tongue, his brows furrowed in a menacing glare as he paced just out of reach.
