Kaiko again looked deep into his eyes. They were startlingly bright, glistening with inteligence. It was enogh to make him want to believe that Ikaika could save him from his family after all.
"I just don't want o be repressed anymore how can I find out what I'm good at hif I don't get to do anything ever. I don't even know what I want o be career wise, besides a noble its an abominably stuffy life I assure you."
That was a lot of pressure to put on a fellow prentice.

Ikaika could not understand why his parents ignored the very good thing they had before them. A talented son but so clipped in development that if he were sea grass he wouldn't even need a clipping.
"What do they even want from you anyway?"
Why go to such lengths.
They risked loosing their son forever in more ways than one.

"Greed mostly, I am their heir so they have been grooming me for marriage to the girl with the best/richest family so that in one fell swoop they can progres as far as possible in life."
he shuddered thinking about the likely milksop figures that he had been presented with over the years as likely prospects.
Life would be so boring.

He had at least loved his parents, while he had had them. his memories were scratchy and old now.

"Exactly, nothing more than a pig led to slaughter, only to then be sentenced to endless meaningless prattle as we both endure a purgatory of shared family dinner parties until as expected we produce and egg and then the pressure would fall on the poor child we brought into the world. I don't want my child to go through that."
He would do his best somehow to save his kids from that fate, but he really did want kids. One day.
