As Wangui sat patiently (for the first time in her life) as Xaawo beganto paint her face, she looked over when Ylva approached. The paintbrush was on her cheek, so she couldn't smile in greeting, but she lifted her hand in a somewhat vigorous wave to her fellow-sister. While often the Vandrea group would meet, it was mostly for teachings and not so much for fun. Wangui appreciated Xaawo's ambition to create some fun in the woods.

Leaning back when the brushwork was done, Wangui let out a dramatic sigh as if it was a long toll, before fully grinning at Xaawo. It seemed Ylva had already made an escape, and so Wangui reached out to take Xaawo's hands.

"Thank you, Sister! I must go and look at your fine work right away!"

Jumping up and brushing off her legs, she smiled one last time before rushing over to the water, passing by Ylva on the way and chirping, "Your turn!"

She seems to have just missed Zinnia, but she got a great view of her colorful face.

"WOOWIE! she said excitedly, before looking at the sign to learn the rules of the game.

As her mothers always said, it would take patience and determination, and she had determination. Grabbing another stone, this one smooth in her palm, she wound up and paused. She took a moment to calm her breathing, focused her inner eye to picture herself successful, and threw.

Splat. Splat. Splat. Splat. Splat. Splat. Splat. Splat. Sploosh.

Wangui let out a hollar, her cheeks hurting from her grin. 9 skips!

"It's hard to get them to skip. I tried it before and just kept throwing the rock into the water." Xaawo grinned, picking out the shade she was going to use for Ylva's face. Unlike she had with Wangui, she was only going to choose one this time. As she was about to get started, Xaawo looked up, nodding as she added Zinnia to her mental list. She then leaned forward, grabbing her yellow brush and getting back to work. Ylva already had a number of dots on her face, but Xaawo couldn't help adding more. A crafty swirl, a line here and there, and she was done.

"I hope you like it!"

She turned at Wangui's triumphant announcement, wiggling to her feet soon after. It was time for a break, and Zinnia being over by the alinare was the perfect excuse for it. She would just take a quick stroll, skip some rocks, then get back to painting.

The third rock she found had a small hole in it that passed all the way through. She thought it might slow her skipping progress, but it did almost as well as the other two had. Xaawo debated telling the others her score, but decided not to once she thought about it. She had set all of this up so everyone could have a little fun, not so she could lord a fluke of a victory over her sisters. Even so, she skipped a bit herself as she approached Zinnia, getting her excitement out before she reached the other girl.

"I think I'm gonna pick that one," she said, pointing at the gray alinar. "She's a wiggly one." Xaawo smiled. "I'm ready to paint again, if you want?"

Alethryia

Ylva let out a stifled giggle, trying to hold still as she felt the cool brush of paint against her face. "Oooooh, that tickles!" she said, moving her lips as little as possible. She turned her focus on the way Xaawo's brush strokes moved across her face, trying to put together what it looked like.

When it was done, Ylva popped up onto her feet with an excited little squeal. "Thank you, Sister!! I'm so excited to see it!"

She decided to follow Xaawo over to the stones again, taking the opportunity to peer into the water and see her face paint - lovely - and to watch someone who seemed to understand the technique of skipping stones. Ylva watched with almost slack-jawed amazement as Xaawo executed three shockingly consistent throws. "Wow... That was brilliant."

And then, just as quickly, she decided she'd rather be looking at the adorable Alinars. She scampered off to peer at them owlishly before pointing boldly to the white with gray spots. "THAT ONE," she proclaimed.

"Thank you, Sister!" Ylva gushed as Wangui approached. "I love how colorful yours are. It really brings out the party."

She turned back to cooing over the adorable little alinars while Wangui made her pick, but the next suggestion seemed to snag her attention. "A Vandrea club, in a hidden cave!" The youngling gasped, clasping her hands together. There was something unique about being the very first generation that deserved celebration, and a club of their own sounded like the perfect way to do it. "I love it, I'm in!"

She bounced a little on her toes, throwing a glance back over at the face-painting section where Xaawo and Zinnia sat. "This is a brilliant idea, Sister. We should tell the others!" Ylva scampered off, clearly expecting Wangui to follow and relay her terribly exciting thought to the others.

Zinnia was so proud of herself- even though Xaawo’s brush really tickled, she barely squirmed at all! “I can’t wait to see!” She bounced to her feet when given the go-ahead and rushed over to the edge of the water to try and catch a glimpse of her reflection. Upon seeing the pretty purple flourishes she let out a squeal and rushed back to her Sisters. “Thank you Xaawo, I love it!”
