Koray was fascinated by Iro’s palms. He turned them about in his hands, touching each callous and wondering when it was formed. Hunting? Holding a sword? There were so many stories these hands could tell him, and he was more than happy to sit there and listen to each and every one! But it seemed like she wanted to hear more about his mother, and he was more than happy to oblige! “Mhm... Ma is a fighter! She is just like Ilkay, likes to participate in competitions and wields a big ol’ hammer! She is the most powerful person I know! Before I was born, she protected my dads on the island they were stranded on for like, a whole year! She hunted food for them and slayed any beast that wanted to hurt them! Papa said she could probably take on a whole army if it was in defense of her family!”

Iro grinned, pointing of a scar on the edge of the palm he was studying. "That one was from me an idiot," she said, tracing out the way it started just under her pinky and wrapped around under the hand and around toward the backside. "We were caught out in a storm one day, and we'd furled the sails so they wouldn't rip in the wind, but the storm came on so suddenly we didn't do a very good job of tying them out. And as the storm got worse, one of them came loose. I thought, of course, that it'd be a good idea to try to grab the loose rope and haul them back by myself. In the middle of a storm." She laughed, shaking her head. "That was about three years ago? I damn near lost my hand and got thrown overboard." But on the bright side, she'd never try to do something that dumb again. "Wow. Koray, that's amazing! That's so cool," she said, wide-eyed. It wasn't necessarily a dream of hers to get stranded anywhere, but if she ever was, it'd certainly be the dream to be able to protect everyone who was with her. "I'll be she could do it, too. No wonder your brother likes a good fight."

“Ow... ow ow!! That must have hurt terribly! I’m glad you’re alright!” He gave the palm of her hand a quick pat, wishing nothing but good luck and safety for those hands for the future. He had seen ships on rough seas, and accidents happen to even the most seasoned of folk... His little heart would break to know that this big-sis he just got to know would get hurt again. But that was a long time ago, and lessons learned meant she was right! The same mistake won’t be made twice! Again, he blushed at her praise, sheepishly looking at the quill in his hands. It wasn’t praise for him, exactly, but he was extremely proud of his Ma, and anyone who praised her earned an extra special place in his heart. Add a dollop of mentioning his big brother and, well, Koray just couldn’t do anything but beam at her. “Ma and Ilkay are incredible.... I wanna be like them, but I know I can’t punch. So... I really want to learn how to be a skilled mage or something! I really do hope you can find someone for me, or point me in the right direction. I-I don’t want to pressure you, promise! But... It would be nice. I bet Ilkay would like it too!”

Iro nodded grimly. "The worst part was I couldn't sail or fish for a few weeks," she said, heaving a sigh. Being land-bound was a fate akin to death! "But I'm smarter now because of it, so, it's not so bad. Plus I didn't have to go to school for days!" A silver lining, if there ever was one. "Well, I'll let you know the minute I hear anything!" she promised, holding out her pinky for an extra-special pinky promise. "I think you'll make a great mage, Koray. And it'd be cool to watch too." She herself had zero magical inclination, so being able to cast and conjure was a far-off dream for her. But it was more than enough to possibly live vicariously if Koray could learn! She resolved to start asking around as soon as she could.

As much as he liked being home, Koray could agree being home and it not being your own choice was torture! But he didn’t know much about the school part. His papa gave him lessons, but that was about it. “You are really, really nice, Big Sis... I won’t let you down, okay? I’ll get nice and tough, so maybe one day I could spar with you too, and show you just how cool magic can be! Maybe. Unless I end up a healer person too. Then I could make sure your hand or anywhere else doesn’t ever get hurt again! .... Or atleast not hurt for very long!” He gave her hand one last little squeeze, before pulling them away, taking his embroidery back to his little spot in the window. “I think... Iro, you’re probably one of the nicest friends Ilkay has made in a long time. I hope you can keep being friends with him!”

"I know you won't!" She grinned and sat back, watching him make his way to a little spot by the window. She caught sight of the light outside, and moved to stand up as well. "Thanks, Koray. I hope so too! And you're one of the coolest kid I've met in a long time," she said, beaming as she scooted her chair back up against the table. "Listen, I've got to go, but pass along that message to Ilkay for me? And I'll keep you posted on the teacher hunt." She walked by Koray perched against the window and lifted her fist for another bump on her way out. "Stay cool, Koray! See you around!"

“Big Sis!!” He brought up the little embroidery ring up, hiding his flushed face from her for a moment. His little heart was simply racing from all the sweetness, and he could feel his ears getting hot too. But he kept smiling, and when she came closer, he more than happily bumped her fist. “Be safe out there, okay? And... And I hope I can see you again soon! You’re welcome here any time!” Since, not only was she Ilkay’s friend, but she was now his friend too! Maybe next time, Ilkay will be here too and they could all have fun together!
