Wild Holly was still laughing when she finally caught up with the others, she didn't say anything as she started following Anywhere instead of Nowhere. She still felt so silly for making the mistake in the first place it seemed so clear, that it couldn't be clear and she thought when she found the shimmering feather that had been a good sign rather than a distraction. Oh well, she had caught up with the others and now she could follow Anywhere and see if she had a better idea as to where they were going now. This adventure was surely an interesting one and it had barely begun. She jumped and skipped on her paws with excitement as she hurried along following the others following Anywhere. She was curious about where this adventure would lead them. Would they find the shimmering fish for Kale or would they fail? She had not failed before but there could always be the first time.
"That hoofed-walking grass-eatin' mouth-bleatin' SOFT HORNED IDIOT!" Lady screeched into the dark words, likely announcing her presence to more than just the pair of owls. The stub-tailed wolf had reined in her anger during Kale Greenleaf's instructions, but now that he was out of sight she was at liberty to vent her frustrations to the world, whether the world was or was not willing to listen to her. "I swear if Journey hid him on purpose I will lose my mind. How do you even hide a kirin? It's not like there's a ton of them out there living their best kirin lives. They knew how important it was for me to impress Kale.
I am more than a suitable match, and he's like, the ultimate catch!" Lady growled, and more than likely would have continued her rant if not for Anywhere and Nowhere's interruption. She glanced up into the trees as the owls announced their presence, and proceeded to do everything within their power to out-talk Lady. She did not manage to get a single word in between the couple. They were a lovely pair though, and romance certainly was not dead... if snarky remarks and playful banter could be considered loving.
She wondered if that was what her life with Kale would be like if he took her as his mate. Lady's mind began to drift again as the owls did their best to sell themselves on being the better guide. Without Journey around to focus her attention, it was an absolute nightmare to get Lady to do anything in a timely manner. She left the owls waiting far too long for an answer, so much so that it was a miracle that neither rescinded their offers to aid her. They must have been desperate to be picked over their counterpart.
In the end, Lady picked who to follow by singing a jaunty tune in her head and selecting the owl her song ended on. "Lead the way, Nowhere."
The trip back to Anywhere was one taken in silence (blissful for Nowhere). Lady's ranting and raving about her love life had been abruptly stopped by the realization that they had been headed in the wrong direction. Disgruntled with Nowhere for leading her astray, and also because he was not the least bit helpful in drawing up a plan to woo Kale Greenleaf, Lady let the owl be. By the time they made it back to the falling tree, Lady had settled considerably.
Sure, she had just wasted half a day following an owl with the directional sense of a fish out of water, but at least they hadn't become so lost that they were unable to find their way back. She'd have hated to be rescued by Anywhere... though if Kale came to her rescue instead the whole debacle would have been worth it yet.
Alas, she was without Kale and Nowhere was without dignity.
"So, like, this is really awkward but could you... please lead the way to the river, Anywhere?" Her parents had taught her that using manners might get you somewhere, and apparently, it did! Anywhere seemed a little smug when she agreed to lead Our Lady's Tears.

Howl arrived at the tree easily enough, settling onto his haunches before the towering tree. Poor thing -- it looked ready to fall over. His heart ached faintly for the tree, eyes only flicking away when a voice called out. No, two voices. He shifted, straightening his posture politely for the incoming speakers. Owls, with names that fit one as if they were created for the other.
His nose scrunched faintly as they offered their wisdom, an ear flicking in thought. He could already see where the conversation was leading; he'd need to choose, wouldn't he? Nowhere had said something he clearly didn't agree with; the lack of needing to show their directions. Howl didn't doubt his own ability to clearly comprehend and store information, but it would be ideal to have his guide with him, correct?
That, and a part of him wondered if he'd enjoy dealing with the clearly more combative owl. If he wanted a clear cut way to find the things Kale sought he believed Anywhere was the correct choice.
"Anywhere," he spoke, finally. "Will you show me the way?"

The dire wolf found herself listening to the bickering owls with an increasing impatience. She didn't have time for this. She had to get to the damned cavern and get her real hunt underway. The more time she spent getting there, the less time she was spending searching for her prize.
The more time she spent dilly-dallying in the woods, the more she was falling behind Lady in their quest.
Journey did her best to keep a wry and polite smile on her face as the owls spoke. Beneath her smile her teeth grit. She found herself impatiently looking to the different paths in the woods. Maybe, she wondered to herself, she'd be better off just going by herself. It might be faster than having to listen to these owls, right…?
She was about to foolishly venture off on her own when the owls went off in their own directions. Wait, what?
Hastily, she followed the one that was nearest to her.

The she-wolf blinked at the pair of owls. They sure were chatty and the good-natured squabbling made her head start to ache. She preferred solitude and relative quiet, or at least the background noise of a forest teeming with life or the soft, soothing babble of a brook. This, whatever this was, is precisely what she did *not* like and it is one of the reasons she was glad her pups were grown. Their squabbling had driven her to cut them off with a frustrated bark more than once, and she had to fight the instinct to do it to these grown, mated owls. Her subconscious curled one lip slightly before she realized it and as she smoothed her face back out she said to Anywhere, "Well. I think that Nowhere is the owl I will follow. Thank you for your offer to guide, nonetheless." And she padded after the owl who had already taken flight.

Amber padded silently back into the clearing where Anywhere appeared to be snoozing...but she suspected that was only a ruse. "Your sorry excuse for a mate either seems to think this is a game or is impressively incompetent," she said, not bothering with a greeting or waiting for one. She sighed. "Would you please take me on the path you wanted to follow so that I can continue my journey without further delays?" The owl didn't move so Amber lay on the ground, waiting, and as the owl unfolded from her cozy position there was an unmistakable gleam of satisfaction in her eye. Anywhere flapped her wings a few times and landed in front of Amber's nose, who sighed again. "Yes, I'm asking for your help," she said plaintively. "He was wrong and I sincerely hope you are not." Her eyes narrowed as she regarded the owl. Anywhere just chuckled and took to flight, leaving Amber to bound after her.
Dark Skies Bloodmoon had left Kale Greenleaf to follow the path she was to take. When she had come across the tree, she looked upon it with shock and awe. This was absolutely amazing and a beautiful sight. Next came the voices, two owls that were beautiful in their own rights. Though listening to the pair of them she could not tell which one was more sincere. Both were going in different directions and it seemed she was going to have to choose. Something about how Anywhere spoke made her put one paw in front of the other towards the female. "I think I will follow you Anywhere. I'm sorry Nowhere. Lead on." She bowed her head to the male. Hopefully, she was following the right path. A glance back over her shoulder at the other owl before he was out of sight. Best to continue, she had a task to complete!
