[8/10]

The absolute comfort of being cuddled next to the person you loved was a powerful drug. For Nyko it sent him back to sleep in a flash just by feeling 'her' warmth pressed so close to him. After a lifetime of sleeping on cold, stone floors and hard cots alone having that tender closeness was as good as warm milk to an infant for him.

It was so comfortable, in fact, that Nyko's first instinct at having his hand messed with was to clench tighter. "Stop 't," He murmured, consciousness barely raising it's head. Was she trying to get up? Surely they had a little more time!

That touch though..."Mmm, Thessia," He angled his head so that his lips were at the base of 'her' ear and he nipped at the earlobe. Although...something didn't seemed right. Why was her ear so smooth? It shouldn't be smooth, there should be ridges...Nyko furrowed his brow and opened one eye, lips moving from her ear to her neck and - holy s*** that's a man!

Nyko's first instinct was to scream. He jolted out of bed as if he'd been shocked, but wrapped up in the blankets as he was the Matorian promptly fell on his butt. Still, he scooted back from Yunan with a string of curses as panic over came him. "Wha-?! Why?! Why am I naked?!" He was practically hysterical at that point until he looked up at the 'man' and realized exactly who it was.

When he did he pointed one clawed finger at Yunan and hissed, "I'm calling the guard." He didn't know what had happened, but it was obvious this - this - this crazy fan had done something! Why else would he be naked in the same bed as a man who had tried to attack him?!

Yunan's neck flushed at the torment of the songbird touching him. The hybrid had never realized exactly how sensitive certain areas of his body were before this encounter and he was not entirely thrilled to learn that his earlobes were a part of that sensitivity. The little nibble sent a shiver down his spine and warmth flared across his skin. His whole body stilled as he clenched his jaw against the mess of sensations that the songbird's contact had created. If anything it would have been more preferable if he had let a murderer stay the night! Yunan didn't even want to think about what he would have been tempted to do if the bard hadn't bolted from his bed in the next second. His traitorous body heated even more at the possibilities but Yunan quickly shoved those aside. Revolting.

Now that he was freed of the other man's embrace, Yunan flipped so that he was quickly sitting upright in the bed. Fixing his own robes, Yunan stared at the songbird as he flipped out. He supposed the other man had some right to be concerned considering he had woken up in a foreign place with a stranger but it wasn't like Yunan was the one who had started molesting him! He had simply knocked him out and dragged him here for his own....safety. What would have happened if he had been left knocked out in the streets somewhere? Then again the songbird had been so quick to feel Yunan up so maybe he would have been happier out in the streets with some thugs after all. If it was still Oba, especially back in the past, Yunan could imagine exactly where he could have been taken.

"Go ahead so I can tell them about how you assaulted me just now." Quipped Yunan, his temper rising, "First of all I only took off your outer dirty clothing and you had robes before you decided to remove them for yourself apparently." He gestured towards the discarded robes that were on the floor, "Not only that but you were sleeping alone in the other bed before invading my bed while naked and starting to....do whatever you were doing." His gaze narrowed, furious as he recalled the warmth of the other man against his body, and a traitorous flush warmed the back of his neck, "I brought you here to avoid a scene and to keep you from being passed out and alone in the slums but this is how I get treated?" Sure it was a bit of a stretch on their actual situation but still! The idiot had started this by trying to send a crowd of his own damn fans swarming after Yunan instead! His fists clenched in his robes at the thought but after counting quietly in his head to five, Yunan ever so slowly loosened his grip. Remember he could have a purpose. Running him through is not the answer here.

"Look." His piercing gaze studied the other man, "If you don't mind putting some clothing back on, we can perhaps have a civil discussion over food and drinks?"

"Excuse me?!" Nyko's skin flushed a bold indigo as his bright eyes took in the absolute snake in silk robes. Out of all the soul's in Belrea to wake up next to...He felt a sickness building inside of his gut as he took in the discarded robes, the mussed bed behind him and his obvious state of undress. Everything he was saying checked out, even if Nyko was struggling to accept it. So the Thessia I cuddled next to was him. Nyko sank back onto his backside, his tattoo'd hand fluttering up to run across his face. He was still tired enough that the remnants of sleep clung to his eyelids and yet, the fire in his blood seared through him.

"How was it, exactly, that I ended up unconscious to begin with? Hrm?" Even as he spoke the questions held little bark. The sheer horror of his situation was just too overwhelming for the Matorian. How had a simple walk through the city ended up this way? And was he more upset over the fact he'd woken up next to a man who'd clearly stalked him, then threw mud at him or that he'd liked the feel of his body against his?

I need air. NOW.

"Sure, fine, whatever. I need out of this room." Without thinking Nyko stood, dropping the sheet that had been covering him to the floor. For the briefest of moments he realized what he'd done, had thought about covering himself, but honestly, how much more awkward could this situation get? What was the point in doing damage control now? "Just...just tell me where my clothes are."

Hmph. Yunan almost offered some snarky remark before it died in his throat at the sight of the dramatic songbird plopping to the ground in what appeared to be distress. For the briefest of moments his expression almost looked curious if not concerned. He hadn't been expecting the perpetrator to seemed so distraught over the incident. Yunan had never witnessed someone sleep - well whatever you wanted to call those actions - but surely he had been mistaking Yunan for someone else. If not then perhaps the songbird was a good actor to react the way that he had once Yunan woke up to catch him. I suppose if anything I could use that information if necessary. Obvious misunderstandings could become willing temptations and gains when it came to someone else's interpretation of the situation after all.

The hybrid's thoughts trailed off as the songbird asked the obvious question but all he could do was give a little shrug, "You got too excited and slipped." He replied without hesitation, "Should have been expected considering the mess of an alleyway you decided to venture into. I still don't understand why you wanted to play hide and seek in such an area." Yunan stood and brushed at his robes, as if getting rid of any dirt or remnants of the Matorian's earlier touch.

At least the songbird seemed willing to talk. That was a good sign. Yunan nodded his head and prepared to move before the next bizarre situation had him freezing on the spot. He.... Oh spirits. Was this really worth the trouble? The hybrid pinched the bridge of his nose, trying his best to avoid the naked man standing in the middle of his room, "They were dirty so I had the staff take them. Just...put on the robes there." Yunan gestured, doing his best to look anywhere but at the songbird directly.

Of course life couldn't be that great because at the same time a knock at the door got his attention and in his haste, Yunan basically bolted towards the door. Before he could block the complete sight of the room, one of the workers had opened the door with a pile of clothing in her arms, "I brought back the cleaned clothi-oh." A bright flush as she thrust the clothing into Yunan's arms, taking one last good peek before backing out into the hallway again, "Please let me know if you sirs need anything else!" Yunan could already hear the faint giggles from down the hallway as he slammed the door closed again.

Taking a deep breath, Yunan turned and tossed the pile of clothing back towards the other man, "Here. Just put your clothing on already so we can get breakfast." He most certainly wasn't eating in this establishment this morning. Perhaps somewhere down the street? What a pain. The hybrid glanced towards the songbird before glancing away again with the purse of his lips, "I'm supposing you have a name. Forgive me if I don't recognize a celebrity of Belrea when I've just recently arrived to the city." Not like Yunan normally would have cared to learn it save for the fact that he was hoping it could benefit him in his endeavors.

I slipped? Nyko had to admit, it sounded like something he would do in the heat of the moment but it didn't make the news any easier to process. Especially when the other man seemed to brush him off, quite literally, as if the mere thought of Nyko's flesh touching him was offensive. It brought out an unconscious frown. Awfully pompous for a mixed breed, don't you think?

"Seems kind of pointless to put on robes and then change into my clothes." Even as he said it Nyko was bending to pick the blankets from the ground and only raised his head when the door was opened. For a moment he stilled, but just as quickly as the maid had come she left and his worries went with her. If she caught a good look then maybe she'd have something to think about later, and if she'd gotten the wrong impression...well, it couldn't be much worse than what he'd imagined when he woke up.

He caught his clothes, well, most of them and set about getting dressed. "I do and I'm not telling you what it is until I've had breakfast." Nyko shimmied his pants up his hips and did up the laces. Since coming to Belrea he'd taken to wearing more form fitting clothing, a suggestion made to him by Gilly, not that he actually preferred them. Still, he had to admit, making things as awkward as possible for the other man was vilifying in it's own right.

Getting his top on was much easier. He just needed to slip into it, close the clasps over his biceps. "Come on then, get dressed, or are you planning on eating like that?"

Hmph.” Yunan let out a small sigh before raising a hand and gesturing towards the songbird. “Breakfast first it is then. I suppose I’ll just have to somehow manage and hold back my dreadful excitement at learning a name.” His golden gaze burned for a second as he watched the Matori dressing. Belrea fashion was definitely something that he would have to grow accustomed to after all. The form fitting clothing only roused the strange sensations from earlier and Yunan found himself jerking his gaze away. The whole situation was ridiculous and he was honestly tempted to just boot the Matori from the room and back into the streets. If he didn’t recall much of what truly happened then so be it. They didn’t even know each other’s names so what was the harm?

But the idea of using an entertainer for advertisement was burning steadily in the back of Yunan’s mind. He could truly use the Matori if he was as popular as yesterday’s crowd led him to believe. The faster I set up shop, the faster I can return to Matori. He thought before the other man’s question gave him pause. Was he going to eat like what? Yunan frowned and glanced down at his outfit. His long, elegant fingers trailed across the deep blue silk robe thoughtfully before he glanced towards the Matori with a quirked brow. “Something wrong with my attire?” He asked before remembering the feeling of the Matori’s hands touching him through said material. “I suppose you’re right. I’ll change.” Not in the mood to waste more time and surely assuming that he had seen plenty from the other man by now, Yunan simply shrugged off his outer robes, the silks falling to the ground in one fluid motion.

He still had on his leggings, but the lack of a shirt revealed the lean muscle from hours of swordplay that rippled as he moved to pick up a fresh tunic. It was something that had not been groped by the Matori and after sliding it over his shoulders the hybrid felt much more at ease. It did little to erase the fact that he had been touched by the Matori but at least the scent of the other man was not on the new clothes. One day in Belrea and I’m already dealing with trouble. He thought before brushing past the Matori. “We can dine downstairs. Follow me.” Down the hallway would be a staircase that led to the foyer and to the right would be the cafe built into the higher class inn. Yunan just hoped that the maid from earlier would do well to keep her mouth shut and that she would be occupied with the rooms rather than the kitchens this fine morning.

A series of tables would await them and once Yunan settled at a more secluded one he glanced back to the Matori. “Feel free to order whatever you would like. In return I would ask that you listen to a proposition.

How he had ever managed to mistake this man for Thessia was a mystery. His sweet fiancee was all soft curves with an ample bosom perfectly shaped for cuddling. The man before him was much harder than that with a lean, muscular frame that begged to be looked at. Nyko's honey eyes traveled down the surly brute's back towards the leggings that cupped his rear in just the right way....then promptly back up with a grimace. Whatever had gotten to him yesterday must still be effecting him mentally. Or maybe there's nothing wrong and you just-.

He waited for the other man to walk past before heading out after him. The singer absently took in his surroundings, wondering exactly what part of the city this inn was located. The gilded paintings lining freshly washed walls led him to believe it was at least nicer than any of the joints he'd crashed in after first arriving in Belrea. Nyko ran his finger tip along the edge of a shelf as he passed, impressed to see not even an ounce of dust. Mentally he was already calculating how many staff members it would take to keep up with the basics, let alone the kitchens, and just as quickly forced himself to stop.

Once a slave, always a slave.

The dining area was the perfect balance of functionality and posh delights. Nyko's status should have allowed him to enjoy such things more often than he actually did, but in all honesty, he still preferred his own cooking. Belrean food never settled well with him.

Once seated, Nyko perused their menu. Over-priced trash. Oh, yes, how many dishes can make with peppers to hide the taste of burnt eggs? Scrunching his nose, the Matori finally settled on a lighter dish and when their Geian waitress came for the order he told her as much. When she was gone he settled back into his seat and look over to the hybrid.

"Alright, you've got my attention. What is it you want?"

Yunan raised a curious brow as he watched the Matori study the menu. Was such fare overwhelming even for a successful singer? Or perhaps it just was not to his taste? Yunan found his gaze drifting down as he studied the foreign foods. He supposed he would find out for himself soon enough. Honestly though he was not much of one for eating so early. His morning routine usually involved training and a cup of tea before proceeding on towards the rest of his day. Still he supposed he could stomach a few bites of something while the songbird ate his meal. Ordering some toast and native fruits seemed like the best option along with a cup of tea. After he had placed the order, Yunan found himself staring back towards the Matori. A smirk crossed his fine features and he moved forward in the seat, his elbows resting on the table as he laced his fingers together and rested his chin on them. “Well I would hope to receive a name finally considering that your breakfast request is to be fulfilled shortly.” He replied first as he continued studying the Matori. In the daylight and away from the disguise of muck and the shadows of the alleyway, the Matori was indeed fine on the eyes. He had not even heard actual songs from the minstrel yet but he could easily imagine why others would find themselves enamoured….that is if the voice matched the rest of the package. s**t. Yunan dragged his mind away from the appealing appearance and the flustering memories of the bard and forced himself to focus on the task at hand.

As it is I am actually new to the city or rather the continent as a whole.” He admitted as he forced his cool gaze to stay on the songbird’s face rather than following the urge to study the whole body again. “I came to start up some stores and seeing those crowds flocking towards you yesterday gave me inspiration. I own pharmaceutical stores across the seas and want to start a shop here where we can grow and combine our traditional medicines with Belrean ones.” Yunan paused thoughtfully before pulling back and allowing the server to place their food down. Once she had left the hybrid cupped his hands around his tea and allowed the warmth to soak into his fingertips. “I think it would be beneficial to have someone popular with the public show up at our meetings with potential sponsors. A way to entice the crowds towards the store openings so to speak. If I may ask how good of a show do you put on? There would be good compensation in return for any good performances.

"Fair enough, but I expect one from you as well." After all, it wasn't as if this smooth talking stranger had been forthcoming with his own information. "My name is Nicosia and I'm a performer with Golden Gilly in her theatre." If the foreigner knew of no one else in this city then he should at least be familiar with Golden Gilly. She was only the premier musician in all of Valmon, and the elite of Belrea's capital came to her theatre regularly to see talent they couldn't find anywhere else. She only scouted the best of the best, regardless of origin, and expectations were as high as ticket sales.

It wasn't enough to use his employer for clout, however. Nyko had drilled in all things 'proper' from his first day with Gilly and any mistakes were duly punished. Anything less than perfection wasn't tolerated, making even those at the bottom of her charts worth more than most minstrels. The fact that he was a headliner, despite his heritage, made Nyko a little cockier than usual on most days. Mornings like this, however? He was absolutely incorrigible.

He couldn't help the little condescending laugh that escaped. "Pharmaceuticals?" What did that even mean? Did he sell books or something? Even when he explained that it was something 'medical' the singer still couldn't wrap his mind around it. "And you think you can afford me for your opening? I'm sorry, I don't mean to be rude, but I'm not exactly cheap."

He held his tongue long enough for the server to place his food before him. It still felt off to Nyko, even after all these years, to be served instead of the other way around. "How good of a- Excuse me?" The matorian had been halfway through cutting his food when his entire face scrunched in disbelief. "You want to hire me without even hearing what I can do?" Shaking his head, Nyko lifted a forkful of food and popped it into his mouth. So, what, this guy had seen the crowd acting excited and just decided he was his best bet? Seriously?

"I have concerns, and before you say anything, I'm not turning down your offer. Not yet, anyway." Nyko set his fork down and really looked at the man in front of him. "You should know that since I've become a headliner all of my performances have sold out. So, I can handle a crowd." At first things had been slow; no one wanted to hear what some common foreigner had to sing about, and without any of the glamour Gilly had become known for he simply didn't stand out, even if he was blue. Now, however...

"I am also not in a position to either accept nor deny your request. Gilly herself holds my contract so I'm bound to her. Good luck getting in touch with her, though; she only talks to her investors and performers these days."

Yunan gave a low chuckle. "I suppose." He replied after a thoughtful moment, his lips curled slightly upwards in a bemused expression. "My name is Yunan and I run Hofstra's medical based in Oba and Matori." They had several other shops sprouting up but his main businesses were still in Sulburi and throughout Matori. Perhaps the name would have been widely known by other medical professionals for their prized herbs and remedies but overseas? He was starting fresh. It was as awe inspiring he was certain to this Nicosia as this Gilly's theatre was to Yunan. He knew nothing of it other than apparently it drew attention to the Matori sitting before him. And attention was exactly what he would need in the next few months.

A brow rose at the laugh. Oh silly songbird. Yunan could only confirm then that the singer had not been in the top rankings of society back in Tendaji with that reaction. Must have come overseas for more than fresh air, surely. Yunan simply grinned at Nicosia's reaction to his request before running a hand lightly over the top of his head as if to brush off the thought. The last thing he needed was for the other Matori's empty thoughts to linger. "If I enjoyed cheap things would I be staying here, Nicosia?" He asked finally as he calmed the silent laughter that had threaten to stumble past his lips. The Matori's name rolled from his lips, a slight flare of exotic hinting in each syllable of his native Zenan mixed with Matori.

"No I wanted to proposition you and then see what you could do. I have hopes considering how the crowds swarmed you yesterday. Even if I find your performance dull, which I hope not, I already saw that there is surely some popularity with you. What can I say? I am more fond of those from my own lands than the foreigners." It was easier to trust that this man would be in it for money alone and nothing more. Others could potentially serve as obstacles to setting up shops, especially if they were also connected with the medical field. Business was business after all. Not that Yunan would express such concerns with Nicosia.

He would have questioned the Matori and asked if he was doubting his own skills but then Nicosia was already speaking about his popularity. The admission or rather bragging made Yunan's smile grow. "So then my hopes for your skills should not seem so foolish. So I need to speak with this Gilly it seems..." He mused over the thought as he brought his cup of tea to his lips and carefully took a sip after blowing some of the steam towards Nicosia. The fragrant herbs that they made lingered on his tongue, a spice similar to home yet somewhat more earthy. Even if he was not a professional herbalist himself, Yunan had been trained in their arts and knew various medicines and herbs. This was good and soothing for the throat. He could already imagine what other spices he could use in a blend that came from Matori...interesting. His golden gaze lifted from the cup and back towards Nicosia. "As it is if you are willing to consider my offer then I can find ways to speak to your Gilly. How long is your contract set with her?"

"Hofstra's...." Nyko mused over the name, 'acting' like he was contemplating a memory. In all actuality he had no idea as to whether it was some new company Yunan himself had cooked up or if it was a long standing outfit. The only shops he'd been privy to seeing while in Oba were those closest to the estate, and only through the back door for pickups. It was only in Belrea where he'd been allowed to go through the front door, and even now he barely knew what half these stores were called. "Sounds...self-important." He replied with faint disinterest.

"You assume that I know it was you who paid for this." Nyko grinned. "There were two beds in that room; so far I've seen no proof that you're here alone. So, while I can't say as to how cheap or rich your tastes run I am free to take my guess." If there was one thing Nyko had experience with it was Matori whores, and the lot that paid for them. Of course, most of the time no one really paid anything, but he'd wager that if Yunan was putting up a bluff it was a damn good one. If he had a 'master' then he was being spoiled. And while Nyko had no reason to believe that Yunan was being treated that way he also wasn't about to stop prodding him about it either.

And then that accent...that was new.

"It won't be easy." He speared a bite of food with his fork and flipped the utensil around. "I'm sure you're used to dealing with merchants all the time, so just imagine a really big one that you can't just walk up to." Before bringing the food to his lips Nyko sniffed it and curled his lip. Honestly, how could Belrean food be this bland? Rolling his eyes he sat the fork back down onto the plate and started fumbling with some internal pockets in his half-coat. "My contract doesn't exactly have a set day; more like an amount. Once I've paid back everything she's put into me, plus interest, I'm free to choose where I'll go."

He pulled a small pouch out of his coat and opened it, sprinkling a liberal amount of hot pepper flakes all over the dish. Raising his fork once again Nyko blended it all together into a mush, but at the very least it would be edible this time. When he brought it back up to his nose he smiled and took a bite.

Yunan could only quirk a brow at the ignorance of the Matori bard. Why would he expect the other man to know of such a name? Mostly it served nobles and servants often did not look for names while running errands for herbs and medicines. Their business was successful but still fairly young and he did not know how long Nicosia had been in Belrea. Still Belrea was fairly new as well. Yunan shrugged the issue to the side. It did not matter if Nicosia was not familiar with his business. What mattered was how well the songbird could sing for Yunan's benefit and how costly such a performance would be.

A chuckle left his lips at the accusations. "If you would like to assume such things then feel free to imagine away. Perhaps I just never intended on sleeping alone while in Belrea." Yunan offered with a slight shrug. "It seems that you aren't the one I have to prove such things to exactly." No, it seemed like this Gilly would be the one to speak with after this improvised meeting with her performer. A smirk crossed his lips at the plus interest and he couldn't help the slight shaking of his head as he took another sip of tea. Plus interest was what they did back in Oba to keep servants around far longer than necessary without pay. The monarchy may have demolished some systems but new ways had emerged from the ashes that kept many of the older nobles satisfied. He may have been raised in Zena and away from such things but Yunan had studied politics and learned much in his last ten years of dealings with Oban nobility.

"I assume that you don't know the remaining balance on this contract, correct?" Yunan studied Nyko as he stabbed a silver fork into one of the crimson fruits, the juice spilling out like blood across the porcelain plate. "As it is if the contract was transferred to another party then you would have no choice but to follow where ever it leads....interesting." He raised the fork to his lips and tasted the fruit, a thoughtful expression crossing his fine features as he contemplated its sweet and tangy flavor along with other things.

"No, I'm not." Still, he didn't like that tone. It was too close to the ones Obans used when they spoke over his head and made light of the matori 'servants'. Which, all things considered, was strange enough hearing it come from his mouth.

Nyko chewed on his egg with a pensive, if not downright annoyed, look on his face. Of course he didn't know what the remaining balance was and the fact it had been pointed out to him by this weaselly stranger was enough to make him nausous. Had he been so eager to leave Tendaji that he hadn't even paid attention to what he was walking in to? Does it really matter? You've got everything you want. Nice clothes, music lessons, all the attention you could ever desire and a woman who loves you. So what if Gilly owns yo-

"...You don't have to look so damn smug about it." Nyko groused. He pushed a bit of sausage around the seasoned mixture on his plate with his fork, jabbing it into other bits of food like a petulant child. "There's nothing stopping me from walking away from Gilly if I wanted to so don't go thinking that just because you have my contract I'll just blindly follow you. If you can even get it to begin with." Which he highly doubted. Gilly was as shrewd as she was protective of her brand; she wouldn't let just anyone mess with something she'd spent so long cultivating.

He tapped the sausage against the edge of the plate before finally picking up on a course of action. "What if I helped you to get that meeting with her? And in return you can help me out with something."

"Hmm?" Yunan simply gave a slight shrug of his shoulders at the bard's accusations. He didn't have to look so damn smug about it? Shouldn't I? There was nothing wrong about having pride in his capabilities and in calling out others for their lack of....well planning. He could already imagine how easy a prey the Matori must have been for this Gilly. I wonder how much coin he gets while she sits on a fortune. It would be a challenge indeed if the bard was as popular as yesterday's crowd made Yunan believe. Unfortunately or perhaps rather fortunately for Nyko, Yunan was not so easily deterred once he had his mind set on something.

"Ah, yes of course." He replied absent mindedly, his attention more on running a finger slowly along his bottom lip to get the last of the fruit juices from his flesh. They both knew exactly what type of situation Nyko was in and how easy it would be to just walk away. There was no point in wasting his breath to point out such an obvious fact or to argue against someone's delusion. "We'll see what I can do." Yunan lowered his hand and placed them around his tea cup again to allow the remaining warmth to soak into his fingers. "I suppose I'm willing to listen to what the request is. What do you have in mind, Nicosia?"

The exact details of Nyko's "situation" was only made all the duller by that horribly tantalizing display of Yunan's. All at once Nyko had never been so transfixed by a man's finger before and yet so utterly jealous of it at the same time. That is, until his senses caught up with him and he once again returned to nit picking his breakfast.

"A friend of mine happens to work for Gilly as well, but she isn't a performer. She's a maid; a hard working one, at that. A lovely little woman who lacks any sort of courage to stand up for herself, but-" He shrugged his shoulders with a little roll of his eye. "What am I to do about that? What I want from you is to be her date for my grand performance in a week. I've been begging her to go for months now, but she won't go on her own because she's too paranoid she'll get caught. Someone like you, though..." Nyko drawled, lifting his fork to point it at Yunan with a sly smirk. "Might be just what she needs to make it through. All you have to do is see the show with her and take her out somewhere real nice afterwards. If you want to keep seeing her that's your own business, but all I want is that one evening. Accept and I'll help you; deny and I'll leave right now."
