Figuring Out a New Chapter
Myrida had been having weird dreams. Well, not exactly weird...just...beyond odd. She had started feeling as if things in her was shifting. Like she was going through the start of her maturity again. Oh no...the female groaned as she rolled over in her bed to hug her pillows. Not that again!!! Going through the start of her maturity period was hard enough the first time!!! She let out a soft scream of frustration as she got up and dressed. The female was in loose clothes not feeling up to putting on a corset today she would keep to staying inside. She wanted to give herself something to do.
Just...what was that though?
She paced in the upper level of the Inn where she and her father’s slept. As well as generally lived. As she came to a stop she saw the old friend...the magic user. He was walking up to the Inn’s steps. Stopping to look up and she felt his gaze locked with hers. The female found herself nearly running down the steps as he entered fully. She stopped as she felt the cold floor, opting to go into the warmer den where the main fireplace roared in life. She curled up in one of the bigger soft chairs as the hybrid walked in and sat where he was last time. She looked at him for a long while. The male wasn’t exactly looking at her until she moved. The sharpness of the head turn coupled with the near dead stare had the female frozen for a moment. Then she finished rising so she could look him square in the eye…
“Can you---” she started ask before the male’s voice cut her off.
“Nyida’s girl...your Mother has strong magic in her blood.” his voice was soft. She felt little emotion in it. The female nodded mutely as he smiled. “Micari is a good Father. He’s given you a lot, child. What is it you want from magic?”
“I want to help Dad. I want to protect him. I know Papa does that well enough, but I want to make sure…” she said softly. She looked up surprised when the male took her hands in his. They were large, rough in some places. She looked up and was surprised to see emotion in the depths of his eyes.
“Good reasons. Now...shall we see what magic lies within you, yes?” he asked standing. He blinked before smiling down at her. “Kindari, is my name by the way little one.” He introduced himself with a chuckle. The male seemed energetic now. Myrida felt she was going to get dizzy with how fast his moods changed.
That was pretty fast, Myrida later found out. Over the course of several months she underwent a different sort of training with the male than she was used to with her father. While she still had her bandit training, the mystic was by far more demanding mentally. She was thrilled with it. Already seeing ways she could combine the two. Seeing ways she could protect the group...and Ai. She smiled gently to herself. She could do so much for her Dad. It was several months and a few days after she started training that she found herself laying on her bed. The female was working on her meditation.
She sat on her bed, legs crossed. Hands relaxed on her knees. Meditation was the key to her tapping into her magic for now. Until she learned a few spells that would directly tap into her magic, she would have to meditate at least twice a week to keep the magic flow fresh and stable in her. She felt it as more along the lines of wind. Cool. Crisp. Always around her. She knew that her outward appearance wasn’t affected by it, but she looked forward to learning Air magic that would allow her to tap even deeper. Her teacher did say that the best method was to learn a spell that felt like your magic as you meditated.
She came out of her meditative trance slowly, opening her eyes to give a yelp as she backed into the wall. Her Dad sat there in a chair not even five feet from her. The male looked up with the barest twitch of a smirk at the corner of his mouth. He crossed his legs as he leaned back. “Kindari, is training you well in magic...you need to raise your awareness even under a trance however. Ask Kin how he does it. No one had even been able to take him by surprise when he was under.”
Myrida nodded. “Yes, sir. Ah...Dad. Thanks.” she said blushing.
She smiled as she felt her Father press a kiss to her temple. “I know you. You're just like me. Just being a mere bandit wouldn’t of been enough. Why else do you think I picked up being an Innkeeper as well?” he smiled at her as he stood to walk out. “Come down for lunch when your ready. Kin is joining us for dinner later on.”
Myrida smiled as she jumped up and joined her Father’s for the day. As dinner drew closer the slender female opened the door in time for her Teacher to walk up to it. The male smiled, a tad dark looking in the dying sunlight. “Very good, my prized pupil. Your magical awarness has gotten sharper.”
Her Dad leaned around a corner. “I am not wasting perfectly good firewood to heat the outside...Kin get in here. Mira shut that door!”
Both magic users, the teacher and their pupil jumped to obey the Innkeepers words. Kindari glanced to Myrida. “He has not changed. That much I can confirm. When we were kids in the group he was a demanding little diva. Now, even as adults he’s still---” the magic user trailed off as he blinked a few times. “He’s right behind me isn’t he?”
Myrida nodded as her Dad stood there tapping a foot. “Kin. Table. Mira. Kitchen, help your Papa set out the food. Kin. Don’t break anything.” he ordered with a sharp tone. The two rushed to get things done and settled.
Kindari called over his shoulder. “Yes, big brother.” as he sat down. Myrida’s Dad walking in to sit across from him.
Myrida paused as her Papa said. “You know their half brothers right?”
