For a moment, Soleiyu watched her, as if he were deciding on just how much he wanted to say. His tail continued to swish thoughtfully. "I consider true magic to be just that--the fibers of the universe that break the laws of science. Summoning something out of nothing. Transforming back and forth between states in the blink of an eye. Traveling across galaxies in seconds simply because you will it to be so. Souls, that speak from another time." He shrugged. "Perhaps there is science ingrained in such things, but they are not by nature scientific. They are magic. Besides."
He looked up at her and smiled. "Some things transcend the reality we can study and understand. Of course, that shouldn't stop us from researching. You're right about the dogs. I wonder if they do something special to make it so they can attack us. I wonder if that could be used against them, to attack in that single instance when they do the same. If they are shadows, except when they want to be something else? Oh, but that means someone would need to be bait."
His nose wrinkled. "...A dangerous task in the name of science."

Huh, so...magic was like religion?
It was a crude explanation but it was the one her brain was most able to process. In the grand scheme of things the young woman could see where the Mauvian was going with it, even if there was a part of her that wanted to explain everything. If there was a way to explain this then she could find a way to keep people safe from it, or at least that was her goal in the end.
Her gut told her that perhaps in some form or another the Mauvian was similar. She had nothing to go on to confirm that of course, for all she knew the cat could be more interest in science for the sake of science but she did live in hope that there were others out there like her.
She gave the Mauvian a calm stare at his final remarks though, her lips pursing gently into a subtle line.
"What do you think the success rate would be?" she asked curiously. She was learning to be slightly more careful, however she still hadn't quite gotten it into her head that there were some things you just shouldn't play with. "The bait in the name of science thing, that is..."

Soleiyu hummed in thought for a moment and then almost suspiciously side-eyed her. "...You wouldn't be considering it, would you?"
And yet, there was thinly veiled interest.
He was curious, but he wasn't the sort to sacrifice someone else in the name of science.
Probably.
"It's hard to predict," he mused, as if he'd actually taken a few seconds to try and calculate a percentage. "...There are too many variables to make an estimate right off the bat. But I'd say...you find more answers if you look where no one else has. And most don't walk the path of danger, if they can help it. Oh, but I suppose you'd want to have backup--someone to keep their eye on you, to intervene if things go wrong. Just in case. It's not worth dying for, especially not if you die before you've discovered anything worthwhile..."

"But if it did work, it could help a lot of people," she pointed out. Soleiyu was right to be cautious of course, one should always be careful when playing with things they didn't entirely understand. However, when it came down to certain things a gamble was required, someone had to take the leap of faith to see whether or not it was going to pay off... right?
Regardless, it seemed apparent that she was giving it some serious consideration.
"Obviously it'd be a team thing, or rather there'd be back up there... But just say we were to try and do something," she waved her little device around and then motioned to the shadows. "How would you personally go about it?" she asked. She would admit it yet, but both she and another senshi had considered deliberately provoking the dogs in particular but as of yet, neither of them had come up with a proper game plan. Somehow, running through the shadows and yelling loudly while the other tried to blast them with their powers hadn't seemed to be particularly subtle and if this was a negaverse thing then that definitely wasn't the best way to conduct a low-key investigation either!
"I mean are we just talking about waltzing up to the things in there and giving them a slap, or are we bringing something with us -" she paused to consider.
"Like the ghostbusters where they played with their little things until they were configured or whatever."
Very scientific.
She could big brain when she wanted to.
...Well in her world she could at least.

Soleiyu watched her for a moment, pensive. "...I think, the most intelligent thing do is to go with options, and backup. If you don't know what's going to work, take different options. If something works, you know where to continue developing and researching. I'd go with more backup than you think you need. And a camera, to record. You miss things when you're in battle, often if you're too concerned with trying to stay alive or healthy. So I'd have someone that can do first aid and heal, too."
The more he considered, the more he imagined, the more his tail twitched.
"Personally, I think I'd start researching light effectiveness. I really can't recall them attacking me under any lights. I'd argue that I haven't seen them in any light, but then, it might just be my mind playing tricks on me? That would be something good to research, too. Not just where they've come from or what they are, but how to manage and maintain them. I'd be interested to know if they could be trapped."
He considered this, too. "Did you have something different in mind?"

He was certainly more reserved than her, and for good reason too, he seemed to have the capacity to think things through before committing to any insanity. Meanwhile in the land of Liliane, more often than not she tended to act and then live with the consequences later. His insights were invaluable, and given his measured response it might very well have saved her in the long term. After all, if she borrowed someone else's methodology and it already had precautions built in then it technically meant she'd avoid doing something stupid.
...Either that, or the probability of stupidity would be lower.
"I know someone who can do that," she admitted, she wouldn't point out that it was her who possessed the ability to heal, but she also wasn't particularly observant. For that reason, she'd need more than just muscles and healing, she'd need some eyes too.
She paused briefly to consider her options, marking off who may or may not be prepared to humour her and her scientific exploration. For the most part there weren't many she could think of off the top of her head, but given time she could find someone.
"I didn't really," she admitted after a moment and smiled wryly. "But if I know what I'm looking for then that gives me a start, you know?" she explained. "I can look for the right team, get the right equipment and then start investigating," she added. At the very least this could be taken as reassurance that she wouldn't be jumping in any experiments any time soon, even if the risk remained that she would pursue it at a later date.
"You're a great help, you know that?"

Soleiyu looked pleased at the praise, tail twitching delightedly behind him. He sat a little taller, chest puffed out, a little prouder.
"I've been told, occasionally. But I like hearing it. I like you. We should meet up again. You should be my research partner. If not just for this, for other things. I'm limited, you know. I've got the brains, but not always the body to actually execute a plan. Gathering information is difficult, and--well. Senshi are just better equipped to handle danger. I could use more friends like you, smart and brave and devoted to learning."
He looked like a cat, paws discreetly kneading the ground as if he couldn't contain his excitement; he was one more compliment away from a purr, even.
"Let me team up with you. Let me contact you sometimes, when I need a partner? I'll bet we could help each other quite a bit."

Now this... This sounded like something she could get behind! She never wanted to bother others but to have a someone to go on 'adventures' with would be neat. Given that this particular Mauvian seemed to involve himself in the interesting subjects, this could prove advantageous to her. She could learn some particularly valuable stuff and have a resource for any of her more mundane queries either.
"I'd love that," she replied with an emphatic nod. "You can call on me any time and I'll come help out," she reassured him. Granted, she might have to call on some allies if he wanted to take on anything super dangerous, but this would spur her on to actually try and make some friends.
"But uh...do I have to take a picture of you like I have to do with everyone else or does this thing work differently for you folks?" she added as she unceremoniously fished out her phone. It was just as well he was a White Moon Mauvian, she wasn't exactly good at being subtle regarding some elements of her identity!

“You can take a picture of me,” Soleiyu said, though perhaps it might have been more out of vanity than anything else. “I don’t have a Senshi phone like you, but I have something close enough.” He lifted his head and something seemed to manifest from his subspace storage; a small, purple earpiece with a large gold star on it appeared attached to his ear. It sparkled and had clearly been made with a lot of love and attention to details. “I can send and receive messages and calls.”
He showed it off for a few seconds more before dismissing it. “I don’t always wear it. It’s voice activated, and the last thing I need is for it to try and make calls when I don’t want it to. But I’m very good at checking it regularly. I’ve been thinking about making a cell phone, too. You know, like the ones you get to use when you’re not powered up? That way I can get more messages. I need to make something that will work with my paws. Take my picture,” he decided, sitting poised and beautiful.
He might have looked regal and reserved, but despite it all, he visibly enjoyed the idea of getting his picture taken, even if only to have it added to her contact list.

She didn't even bother to try and hide her giggles, he was extraordinarily pretty when he took his chosen pose and he seemed to be relishing the opportunity to have it immortalised. Thus, she raised her phone up and positioned it carefully before taking a snapshot that she thought was fitting of her newfound friend. A short moment later she had knelt down and held it out for inspection just in case he might want to have it retaken!
"It's strange, it feels like everyone I've met has a different way of communicating," she admitted as she noted his chosen method of receiving calls. "You have an earring and the page I met recently seems to have some sort of ring," she pursed her lips thoughtfully. "It's kind of neat, but for some reason I had it in my head that we were all using the same thing..." she shook her head and then motioned to him.
"And then you point out the simplest thing that I hadn't even thought of, you're right, your paws couldn't press the numbers!" she chuckled.
"Maybe a phone with a keyword that activates it so that you don't have to worry about it accidentally butt dialling?" She suggested.

Soleiyu peered at the image, tail swishing delightedly as he nodded approval. "I like it, keep that one," he insisted. "The good news about the communication devices is that they all work together, at least. I can't imagine how I'd keep in contact with anyone if we didn't use the same system. We'd have to send each other paper letters. And holding a pen is far worse than trying to press buttons. Electronics, I understand. Those, I can manipulate. But my handwriting? It's obscene."
He raised his paws and stretched his little toes, looking at the plush pads on the bottom of his feet. If he'd had lips, he'd have been pursing them. "...It would be nice to have hands like you. One day, though. Contact me soon,ah..." He drew a blank, trying to summon her name, only to realize he didn't think he'd ever asked. "Oh."
He paused again and then looked up at her. "...What's your name? Have I introduced myself? I'm Soleiyu, how rude of me."

"On this thing..." She smiled and slipped the phone back into her pocket. "I'm called Adorea," she replied. He couldn't be faulted for his manners when she hadn't even remembered to ask him who he was either! Evidently, both had been distracted by far more interesting things that had been in their presence whether it was shadows, odd electronics or otherwise, was entirely irrelevant.
"Weirdly, I prefer Dory though," she confessed. She wasn't sure why she did, only that her 'full' name made her feel a bit odd. "It's a pleasure to meet you Soleiyu -"
A brief pause.
"And you know you can probably get a PA who's specifically qualified to read your obscene handwriting," she smirked impishly. "That's what medical secretaries are for, you know?" A cheesy joke perhaps, but she'd seen humans write in some unusual styles and she was beginning to suspect the Mauvian's, despite obvious challenges, would be any more unusual than one of those.
"But I suppose I should probably go for now," she wrinkled her nose. She had left the house in full view of her parents and given the current time she was at least going to have to make a show of getting home even if she did end up sliding back out the window unseen shortly after again.
"We'll be seeing each other again though, I want in on those experiments, k?"

Soleiyu nodded knowingly and committed the name to memory. Adorea was easy to remember but Dory was even easier. Only briefly did he consider the idea of having someone read his notes--or transcribe them for him--but ultimately he dismissed the thought. His pride made it difficult for him to accept help from anyone, much less someone who might make a mistake and misrepresent him. It was a thought for another day--a problem to be solved when he had more time and ideas to devote to it.
"Of course," he promised, bowing his head as he pushed himself up; he stretched a bit, a shiver running down his spine and working its way all the way down his tail. "I'm excited to see what we come up with. Get home safely. Call me if you get into trouble. Have a good night, Dory, I'll see you soon."

"Don't worry, I'll be okay!" She called back reassuringly as she began to make her way towards the more public streets. She'd gotten better at that and given the current circumstances in the city she'd made a point of making sure she was somewhere bright. She'd been chased enough times by the dog things on her own to know better than to play with them too much.
All in all, this evening had been fairly successful.
Sure, she hadn't really found out much about the shadows but she had made a friend, right? She was always in the market for friends and with Soleiyu she'd made one. Hopefully, in time, they would meet again and conduct a worthy experiment or too... And hell, if she didn't hear from him in due course then eventually she'd just call him instead!
For now though she made a point of heading home like the good child she was. What awaited her later in the evening would remain to be seen for now...
