Cold air brushed against his face causing stray strands of hair and fur on his uniform the stir. In an odd way it felt comforting even though this place was not his own, it at least reminded him of Mercury.
“So what kind of things have you learned about this place.” Slidr walked across the courtyard towards one of the libraries. Snow beneath his feet crunched loudly in the otherwise silent area. “Political or academic wise,” he clarified.
It wouldn’t be much of a library if there wasn’t any books. Same thing goes for the courthouse, kind of lacks purpose without written records of who was on trial and for what reasons. It would at least give insight to the values of the people from her wonder and likely this world as a whole.

“Academic and justice. It served the laws of both Polaris and elsewhere. One library was laws and information for just here...the other - for elsewhere. It taught and put those lessons into action.” It served to train and teach lawyers as well as serving as where they would work and carry out the law.
“I can’t read any of the records and I don’t remember any cases specifically. But I know which library was which and what each contained. I know one court building handled things only on this planet and another handled cases for outside of here. It was just and fair.” She knew that much but details she lacked. Maybe she always would, because to remember might be to know things she shouldn’t. Things that wouldn’t matter or things too important...things she should not know for safety or otherwise.
Trailing behind the other she kept close, close enough she needn’t raise her voice too high. She didn’t want to go shouting, even if no one was around to disturb, it simply didn’t feel right. Though she was sure people would yell and shout in the ancient past. Calling out to people they worked with, or for, to friends or family. It seemed like a thing.

“I would assume now that you are transcended it would mean that you’ve unlocked all the secrets of this place. That you’d have learned the language or text in the books and have been able to have more of an understanding of what happened in the past.” The biggest question on his mind has always been what the point of any of this was if nobody can seem to remember.
Perhaps his expectations were too high but she was the highest ranked individual he knew of aside from the General Kings and Queens they encountered in the Dark Kingdom when they retrieved the code. Senshi had their princes and princesses but in all honesty he didn’t care much about them. All of them failed as leaders, which is one of the reasons they lost when they invaded their territory.
Fortunately enough they did retrieve that piece of the code which in turn gave them a reason to continue to visit their wonder but it seemed as if they were at a stalemate now. It has been a while since he had heard of any forward progression and knowing that even at transcended Delphi still hadn’t unlocked her past, he couldn’t help but feel discouraged.

“I understand a lot...but not everything. My memories pertain to here - not the whole of Polaris. I can’t read or write the language here either. I don’t think any of us can. If we could...I think it would bring more understanding of this war to us now, to everyone on our side.” It might even be enough to change how things were going, swing them in their favor.
“I don’t think we’re allowed to know though. Either due to magic or something else. I think it’s prevented.” It made some sense. To learn a whole language, to learn too much, it would tip the scales too far.
“Perhaps we’re not meant to know. Or maybe we’re not ready to know...that we have to do something or reach some point where magic, or whatever is above us, decides we can learn what we can’t now. I do not know but I think it would tip the scales in our favor, which would be good...but the scales will even out somehow in the end.” Which would be bad for them, depending on how they balanced out.

“So then I have to ask, why does it keep calling you back here then? If you’ve learned all that it has to offer then what more is there to do?” Library of books that can’t be read and a justice system when they were currently thrusted in a war that had no justice. Just take or be taken from and get back at those who have wronged you. All this ever seemed to be was a cycle of revenge except when outside forces invaded Destiny City.
Sometimes it felt like an exclusive club because the moment someone else stepped in, all the factions seemed to come together in some unspoken truce then fell back into the old routine the moment the new threat was taken care of.

“Perhaps to rebuild enough that when I die it’ll have a new knight who can continue and eventually it will, with some magic, host people again? I have running water here, warm running water, when I didn’t in the beginning. It warms the cobbled ground and melts the snow, the fountain is filled with warm water.” There was warm water found elsewhere as well, throughout the complex.
“The pipes run between the walls of the buildings and warms them. Perhaps it calls me to continue to visit so it can repair itself and maybe I’ll learn these things eventually. In the meantime I do gain memories, just not those.”
Stepping up to the fountain and removing her gloves, setting them into a pocket on her coat, Delphi dipped her hands into the warm water. It was, as usual, almost hot. “We’re dealing with magic and I’d almost say it has a personality...a sentience. Maybe it decides on these matters.”

“I suppose that makes sense.” And yet, his far off tone suggest he wasn’t exactly happy with it.
Slidr did as she did and removed his fingerless gloves then dipped his hands in the water. Perhaps he had been sitting outside longer than he had thought because he went from feeling nothing to pain within seconds. But after a moment, the pain died down once his fingers warmed.
“So then what is it you need to do here today?”

“Nothing - just be here. Transcended...we build up too much energy...it helps to come here. Not being here, for us, can lead to sickness.” And she didn’t care for that much. She had a job and a life and she didn’t need that ruined because she neglected coming here.
“I’ve spent nights here, the bedroom is clean and useable.” And she had spent many nights here at this point. She liked the cool air of her wonder and the warmth the running water provided through the walls. It was comfortable and she felt good, magically speaking.
“Sometimes people just want to visit their wonder - no reason or call needed.”

“Sounds like an inconvenience.” Slidr absently replied.
Thankfully he hadn’t transcended otherwise he would be dead right now. It wasn’t just a few weeks or months since he had visited his wonder, try more like years at this point. In that time he did power up on occasion but even that became a tedious task.
“Then again I feel like I could use the escape.” For years he had been living under the same roof and sleeping in the same bed with Alexandre. With how things were heading, Aiden had nothing. Going home wasn’t really an option; his mother would take him in but the last thing he wanted was to be a burden to her. His father, however, was a man whose mind couldn’t be changed, as far as he was concerned he was dead to him. If it wasn’t for Riley… if it wasn’t for his dog then he would have nothing to tie him to the city and could simply leave.
“You had mentioned that you hope that this place may become liveable. Have you tried bringing anyone, or thing, here that wasn’t powered or human.” Not food or plants but animals specific was what he was thinking about.

“I haven’t tried. I don’t know if it would work, some animals I’m sure could handle it to a point. If they can handle the cold and whatever plant life is here can be used as food, that would be a step in the right direction. The problem is migrating and just the natural homing system most animals have built in - like birds.” Who could always find their way along migrating paths. It might throw them too much, being moved to a place like this. Some animals maybe, she wasn’t sure, and how would she even track an animal if she let it lose on this planet?
“That’s where I worry. I don’t even know anything beyond my wonder...or the city I went to once. I didn’t walk there - I was teleported there.” She hadn’t ventured beyond...it felt wrong in a sense. Without her princess around she didn’t know her way and it felt like she was invading another place, that wasn’t hers, and if she got lost she’d have to teleport back to Destiny City. She wouldn’t be able to teleport back to her wonder.

“Have you at least connected with other Polaris knight to continue to rebuild this star?” Perhaps that’s what it would take to bring live to the otherwise dead world. Not just one wonder rebuilt but multiple. In order to have a civilization you start with one small community but eventually that community would grow and with growth the people venture to other regions. It is a natural progression of life.
“Maybe your next step is to help them transcend.”
“Have you considered that perhaps their wonders may in turn have keys to the past, whether it is related to Destiny City or Polaris’s I wouldn’t know but I don’t think you’ll learn too much more here. Another knight may have a cipher that could be used to understand what is written in the books.” Slidr wasn’t sure why he was so hung up on it but for some reason he needed there to be more reason to keep fighting or rebuilding. They had to be connected in some way, in the past they must have worked together in a common goal, maybe the missing links were hidden in the memories of another knight.

“I only know two other Polaris knights and I’ve not seen them in some time. I have been working with a Cosmos knight on rebuilding our wonders. One of those Polaris knights was involved as well but they have, to my knowledge, vanished. I don’t know, I think the war got to her.” Or something had. She honestly couldn’t say for sure what had happened to the other Polaris knight. She did hope she was doing well.
“If I can find them I plan to help them. If I can find our princess I will work with her again. I last saw her years ago at her wedding. I have not spoken to or seen her since.” No one else seemed to have seen her either. She was, to her knowledge, one of the few with a living royal and she was gone.
“Perhaps, that could be a thing. What knight though? One awoken or one not yet awoken? Perhaps one serving the Negaverse? You, or even I, could have in the past had friends who are now over on that side - clueless and uncaring of that all. They may be the key or one needed to unlock more memories - shared ones. Perhaps my princess, all royals, hold the keys. If they are all reborn. Perhaps already reborn but without being awoken, they are the keys.” It was all a lot of what if’s and unknowns. A lot of things they needed to figure out together, if they could be figured out.

“So what are your plans going forward?” Slidr put his gloves back on and stuck his hands into his pockets.
Both as a Page of Mercury and as a civilian, his own path was unknown. But the more he spoke with Delphi, the more he felt like no matter which one he devoted himself to, everything would fall apart in the end.
Continuing to pursue Alexandre was unhealthy for the both of them. Lies divided them as new faces kept the fissures from closing. After over five years Aiden still hadn’t found the courage to tell his boyfriend that he was a knight, going so far as to even rejection the notion himself and ignoring the call. It was difficult at first but as the months passed the need to power up was nothing more than an afterthought. However the more unbearable things got at home the more persistent that call became.
On the other hand, if he pursued life as a Knight then eventually he was destined to reach the same place where Delhi was at. A royal who was missing and offered nothing in terms of direction.
What kind of hope for a future did either of those options give?

“I plan to continue to help my wonder - to see where it goes as far as coming back online. I want to help other knights with their wonders as well, to clean and work with technology we have and our wonders, to provide certain things we need. For the war...I’ll continue what we’ve been doing and prepare for whenever another big battle happens.” And it would, it always did. It was a matter of time really, and the holiday season was coming up. Something was bound to happen at some point.
“We have to try something - to do what we can. In the end it may pay off in an unexpected way. We’re dealing with magic and so we don’t know everything it can or will do. These places are here and they call...and we answer. There is some reason.” And she would do her best in the hopes of something happening in her lifetime. But if not...then perhaps the next.
“We have to do something. We can’t allow people, ourselves included, to be hurt in this war and we can’t let the other side just win and roll over us all. Why not build up wonders and homeworlds as well? They can provide some things we may need.”

“A safe haven perhaps. But what good is it if we’re limited to how many times we can come visit or the number of people we can bring?” Slidr himself had never actually taken anyone to his wonder but he had heard that there is a bit of a fatigue associated with it. Being a transcended she may not feel its effect as much but from what he understood there were only so many visits allocated each month and only so many people you could bring with you.
“I’m sorry,” the Page of Mercury ran his fingers through his ebony colored hair and sighed. “You don’t deserve to be interrogated like this. I know you’re trying to help. You extended your hand out to me years ago and like then I slapped it away.” For that he truly felt guilty and regret for turning his back on probably the only person who had tried to help him.
